Bath & Body Beauty Tip

Exfoliating: not just for the face!

Exfoliating: not just for the face!Often we become so wrapped up in our facial skincare routine that other parts of the body can get neglected. All our skin can benefit from occasional exfoliation to look its best. Before bathing, use a natural bristle brush with a long handle to brush all areas of the skin (while dry). Use a gentle circular motion, always brushing towards the heart to promote circulation and skin turnover.

I'd rather use a body scrub or body sugar and exfoliating in the shower with a loofa or washcloth. It was helpful to learn to brush towards the heart to promote circulation. Never thought of that.

I have the worst problem with my feet. My job requires me to wear metatarcel boots all day and my heals and feet are embaresing they are cracked and they hurt. I have tried calous scrapers and lotion any tips on how I can get smoother skin on my feet?

I used to have the same problem until I started using Clinique's Body Butter specifically. It sounds silly to pay that much money for a lotion you'll mostly use on your fee, but it'll last a long time and you can use it on your other rough spots (elbows, knees...etc). I use that plus one of those little foot file thingies and my feet are finally soft. Sure, they still get a little dry when I wear sandals a lot, but that is to be expected.

I used to wake up in the middle of the night to put lotion on my feet because it bothered me so much. I have tried other body butters and they don't work the same (usually too much perfume). So that with making sure you're drinking enough water should do the trick.

It's better if you give yourself a nice footbath (water and rosemary leaves works great!) and massage your feet with a mixture of salt and olive oil. After the foot bath (heeeaven), rub in some sweet almond oil on your feet.

Works a treat!

Where I work we have patients that come in with really bad calluses, so we have to do vinegar soaks. 1 part vinegar to 1 part water, soak for 20 minutes, 30 max. We'll normally do this over a 5 day period, once each night. Try not to pick off any large sections of callus that look like they may fall off on their own. Of course, we do this on patients with closed skin, no cracks, so you might want to see someone about that.

OLD REMEDY and IT WORKS. This is the best remedy for dry and crack feet. Apply lots of vaseline or Petrolium Jell on your feet and wear a pair of wool or cotton(white) socks to bed. Repeat this until needed. And you should always apply a good cream on your feet every day.

Pedicures. They have special ways to help with that like seaweed wraps and it's relaxing. Or you could invest in a spa bath and soak in salts made for those baths. The Vaseline works well with socks over it.

born_confused90 replied: Thu, 2008-01-24 12:56

if you use the vaseline tip (which does work) remember to scrub your feet with a pumice stone, a foot file, or whatever else you prefer, because if you don't then the soft look/feel won't last.. tc

debnjon... replied: Thu, 2008-01-24 19:00

Try putting vasoline on your feet at bedtime and wear a pair of sox so you don't dirty the sheets. You should wake up with much softer feed. My pedicurist told me this trick. Hope it helps you.

The Body shop do some great footcare products - I recommend the Peppermint Intensive foot Rescue or Hemp foot protector. Both are brillaint with hard working feet.

That sounds great I need one because I live in the high desert which doesn't help with the fact that I have extremely dry skin to begin with. I also need one for my hands. I really want to try those parrafin baths. I am only 22 and a girl but if you felt my hands you would think I was an 90 year old man! Gross but I am constantly putting on lotion (Gold Bond) and it helps for 5 seconds....

Hi! We have the same problem area! My husband bought me a paraphin wax spa for Christmas and it has done wonders for my nasty feet! They're fairly inexpensive and just to die for...sooooo relaxing!! I'd recommend getting one if you don't already!

ch_lovin... replied: Tue, 2008-02-12 17:57

Really? That good huh? I think I will really look into getting one now....hmmmm

I love this - but instead of vaseline use sweet almond oil, it's so much better.

i think the best all round way to exfoliate all over your body and face is to add seal salt to your normal body wash and face wash and dont allow it to melt and cirlute the cream everywhere and the salt acts as a detox too especially when your pregnant like me i have over eccessive oils and when i exfiloiate my skin looks so fresh and clear and squeaky clean which make my foundation exstra smooth over my face

ch_lovin... wrote: Tue, 2008-01-29 11:04

You know now tha tI think of it I do exfoliate or even use my loofa and wash in a circular motion towards my heart becaus eI start at my legs and work my way up. Wow, I do it without think. Instinct I guess.

punono wrote: Wed, 2008-02-06 03:07

try shaving the bottom and sides of your feet after soaking for awhile in the tub , they will be smooth and free of any roughness

brontegabriella wrote: Sun, 2008-02-17 14:02

Actually, if you have greasy or spotty skin I would avoid using facial scrubs completely - it aggravates the sebacious glands in your skin causing them to produce more oil and clog to form spots.

help!!!!! my big day is coming up in july and i have problems in my chin area with pimples not white but red and ugly looking what can i use i have never had problems with pimples befor so i'm not even sure where to start looking

ch_lovin... replied: Tue, 2008-03-18 16:31

Sweetie...it sounds like stress. Just wash your face with Clearasil Daily Face Wash...has Triclosan which is an anti bacterial to get the dirt deep down in pore...keep hands off face (this sounds odvious but we do it a lot more than we think especially when we stress) and take a day to get a pedicure or a day for yourself and not think about anything. Congratulations and Good luck!

lisapkab wrote: Tue, 2008-03-11 06:29

regarding the feet...I got a great recommendation on a product, a battery operated gizmo called the Heel Smoother (company called Artemis Woman). I found the key is to exfoliate the dead skin first, a little at a time, apply moisturizer before bed, and wear a sock. Soaking helps, but I find it easier to use the tool on dry feet, sort of like sanding.

blondy04 wrote: Tue, 2008-03-25 15:59

how do you cure pimples on your back that are hard to reach?

freespaescapes wrote: Mon, 2008-03-31 11:26

I agree I would rather get a scrub or something than those horrible brushes!! One of my products that really does the trick it Microderm abrasion for your how body in the shower! Never felt so smooth. Also for the pimples on the back. I have All Clear body wash. It is great. My husbands uses it and his pimples are gone!! Let me know if your interest.

sideparted17 wrote: Sun, 2008-08-03 19:37

a good exfoliator is olive oil and sugar or honey and sugar. rub it all over your feet in brisk circular motions. helps a lot, especially with the Vaseline treatment afterward.
