Eyes Beauty Tip

How To Make Your Eyes Pop

How To Make Your Eyes Pop
Holly Kiser enhances her brown eyes with blue shadow.
We have a very clever way of determining your most flattering eye shadow shade that will make your eyes look as bright and gorgeous as possible. It's actually basic color theory—opposite shades on the color wheel make each other look more intense and vibrant. This means that you should pick an eye shadow shade that is directly opposite your eye color on a traditional color wheel. Don't have one handy? Uh, who would?! Here, we've done the work for you.

If you have green eyes, try out purple eye shadow shades such as lavender, violet, or amethyst. Keep the color sheer so it won't look garish. For eyeliner, a deep plum is perfect.

If you have blue eyes, go for a warm copper, burnished gold, or rich brown eye shadow. Chocolate is an excellent shade choice for eyeliner.

If you have brown eyes, opt for cool blue or green eye shadow tones like mint, powder blue, or teal. A deep forest green is an ideal eyeliner shade.

what if your eyes are hazel?

cmininni replied: Wed, 2008-06-18 19:50

Tans and light blues go really good with hazel eyes.

rishka replied: Thu, 2008-06-19 01:22

I like to use a rich brown and then line in a cool green or spice color

9638719 replied: Wed, 2008-06-25 16:44

put black over them

suki_ replied: Fri, 2008-07-25 04:43

I have hazel eyes, and basically use ivory on eyelids, med green, in the crease, and lighter green on the brow bone above the crease.

My eyes almost disappear when I smile... how do I open them up

vteymama replied: Sun, 2008-12-28 16:31

it depends on what color your eyes are but a color that can make your eyes pop is a raisin purple or any dark purple idk it works for me and my friends.

bazygirl13 replied: Sat, 2008-08-16 17:52

hazel is brown lol

forsythia9 replied: Sat, 2008-08-23 19:14

not really. I have hazel eyes and mine are more greenish than brown.

slurpedrinker88 replied: Tue, 2008-08-19 21:37

i have hazel eyes and purple works for me

ninatian_ wrote: Wed, 2008-06-18 16:47

what if you have black eyes...

cmininni replied: Wed, 2008-06-18 19:51

Use shades of gray and silver. Some colbalt blues work nice too.

laroquea wrote: Wed, 2008-06-18 17:03

What if you have gray eyes? I wear gray eyeshadow and liner and that makes them seem to stand out more than anything!! Also, why does Almay have the color coded eyeshadow with blue eyeshadow for blue eyes? This is confusing!

cmininni replied: Wed, 2008-06-18 19:52

This article is absolutely correct. i don't know why Almay has done that either. Their way really doesn't make the eyes pop.

greenish eyes?

cmininni replied: Wed, 2008-06-18 19:56

use purple-shaded colors.

stara lee replied: Mon, 2008-06-23 17:12

If YOU use purple then what light or dark and what shade? See I use a skin tone then I put a little pink and always GLITTER!! :)
Pleas write back cmininni...

belindanz wrote: Wed, 2008-06-18 18:48

this tip annoys me because first of all brown is not on the colour wheel it is a tertiary colour and that means almost any colour suits brown just stay away from darker tones

cmininni replied: Wed, 2008-06-18 19:55

Dark and vibrant, bright colors look great with brown eyes. Shades of Gray (black, silver, etc...) look great on brown eyes, as do some deep blue colors. Saty away from brown and pinks on brown eyes - make them look tired.

trousers replied: Fri, 2008-06-20 23:22

I disagree
Maybe it's just my skintone, but coppery browns and pinks look great on me and I have brown eyes. Blues and purples make me look bruised and sickly.

xxmarian3xx replied: Mon, 2008-08-11 14:55

i have brown eyes and i use black eyeliner with with white almost-blue shadow [loreal wear infinite] i use darkblue liner [its kinda sparkly] with grayish eyeshadow [bareminerals]... when i use blue liner, i still put black on the top because if i dont it makes me look like somebody punched me in the face.

stara lee replied: Mon, 2008-06-23 17:16

Belindan for brown eyes use a bright purple or a dark blues I would stay away form the pinks, but I would check how you like the pink or if you don't sooo I hoped you like my advice!!

dom114 replied: Mon, 2008-06-30 16:41

not necessarily. some hues do not cause the color of brown eyes to pop. you want to accentuate it with colors that bring attention to your eyes. Brown does not necessarily look flattering with brown eyes, but that all depends on the person's tone, too.

blueangel2012 wrote: Wed, 2008-06-18 20:38

What if you have blue-green eyes???

stara lee replied: Mon, 2008-06-23 17:19

Blueangel2012 I have blue-green eyes and I always use a LIGHT pink and some LIGHT purple and before I put it on I mix it all together and then aply then glitter if you perfer glitter!
I hope you like my advice,
Stara lee

dom114 replied: Mon, 2008-06-30 16:49

I apply a light layer of onyx mascara, then smudge it so it fades back into my skin tone, darker near the lash line and ascending to a light shade near the top of the lid. then I apply a dusting of sea foam green along the lid, and near the eyebrow line and beneath the lower lashline i daub an almost translucent smudge of white.

sashgurl wrote: Thu, 2008-06-19 00:05

for black eyes?

hmorgan13 wrote: Thu, 2008-06-19 05:46

Almay has great products to help you out with this. They have brown shadows all together for blue eyes, purples for green, etc. They work perfectly. I see on here that some say they don't have those colors for those eyes, but here in MA, they are the right ones, so I'm not sure what they're talking about. I always used blue with my blue/green/grey eyes, but brown tones work sooooo much better. I was very happy i splurged and got the Almay products or I never would have known!
