Cameron Diaz knows how to keep her makeup from melting off in the scorching summer heat.
Summer is here and with it comes soaring temperatures, sky-high humidity and lots and lots of sweat. All of which makes keeping your makeup from sliding off your face an almost impossible feat.
"Heat and humidity break down the makeup formulas, causing everything from mascara to lipgloss to separate and smear," says Chase Aston, The Body Shop's international makeup artist, whose clients include Cameron Diaz and Elle McPherson. Read on to find out how to keep your makeup in place when things start heating up.
- Start with a clean, primed palette. Excess oil on the skin can cause slippage faster than you can say "oil slick." Prep your skin by cleansing and toning, then moisturize with a mattifying lotion. Aston recommends applying an oil-free face primer to give your makeup extra staying power.
- Choose oil-free, water-resistant products. "Most makeup formulations contain natural oils that, once they warm up, will tend to slip and slide all over the face," says Aston. Extend your makeup's life cycle by switching up your usual products for those that don't contain oils. Instead of a cream foundation, choose a lightweight mineral powder foundation. Create a smudgeproof eye by using powder shadows and a waterproof liner and mascara. For lips and cheeks, ditch the heavy lipstick and melt-prone cream blushes in favor of sweat-resistant lip and cheek stains. He suggests: The Body Shop Hot Brights Lip Shine and Cheek Stain. Find out some of our favorite waterproof picks too!
-Stop a meltdown in its tracks. If your makeup starts to slide around midday, use a large white tissue to gently blot down your hairline, eyes, corners of the nose, lips, chin and jawline to suck up oil and smudges. If your eye shadow has creased, close your eyelid and press your finger against it to smooth the remaining shadow and wipe away liner and mascara. Wipe your lips clean and add a wash of balm or gloss to freshen up.
I LOVE lip stain! It is the best!! I've never tried cheek stain but I have heard great things about it. Thanks so much for these tips! I surely will use them!
In the summer, I like to keep things as low-key and natural as possible. Just some moisturizer with a sunscreen, concealer and a dusting of powder, light blush, mascara and lip balm and I'm ready to go! I keep a small pack of Kleenex handy to blot away excessive shine during the day.
I like to a liquid bronzer mixed with a small amount of oil-free suncreen all over my face then I put on Lashblast waterproof mascara. Line the top lash line with maybelline waterproof liquid liner in black. To finish it off I use covergirl's lipstain in plum pout and then a tinted lip balm with spf. To remove any excess oils, I use an oil blotting sheet from the body shop
i try to do light products as possible. i use, for the summer time, i sunscreen tinter, so i dont get sun spots, and i am still covered. i use a tad of bronzer, just to highlight my bone frame. and tinted lipgloss, like a pinkish color. and instead of putting on blush, i pinch my cheeks to make it look real as possible
My favorite way to keep summer makeup light is to first apply a shimmery moisturizer and then a mineral powder foundation. The moisturizer keeps my skin from becoming dry and gives it a glow and the mineral powder is light and doesn't "move" during the day. I also like to use a staining lip color so that I don't have to reapply product after downing the extra fluids needed in the heat.
i dnt apply any makeup at all... all i do is i use lip balm while gng to college. bt i really wanna learn hw to look good... may be my mom will let me try it after sm time..lol..
i really need help with my make up...my face gets oily and i cant seem to find the right shade of foundation for my face its either too white or too dark..someone help me please
If you have a Body Shop near by you, head in for a free make-over and skin care advice! We are all trained and ready to help you. We even give you tips during your pampering session as well. =)
contact a Mary Kay consultant (i'm not one, i just love them).
you get free samples, and get to try everything for free.
they give you advice on how to apply and what might look best for you, and you don't have to pay an arm and a leg like you will at a store to get stuff.
I have sensitive skin, and didn't know anything about make-up until i spoke to a Mary Kay person. what a difference.
PLUS! if you decide a few days into using your new products, they take them back! a store or any other company won't do that for you.
I had the same problem finding foundation that matches my skin tone. I am of Irish heritage and most makeup looks too yellow on my skin. I've found only two that you can purchase off the shelf. Prescriptives is the best and they have colors to match every tone. If they can't match your skin they can make the color right there for you. The other is L'Oreal True Match. They have fewer choices but are less expensive. Hope this helps!
go to a store like Macy's that has a make up counter with trial vials. They will not only help you find your perfect match but if one doesnt exist they can help you blend 2 together to make it
i dont like heavy makeup in general since it tends to get extremely hot and humid. to keep my skin moisturised (the heat can really dry out our skin when sweating or otehrwise) and since i hv combiation skin i dust on baby powder to prevent the shine and the powder absorbs the sweat and prevents the makeup form running too much. for my eyes i use a smudgeproof, waterproof eyepencil (mostly in black to suit my indian skin tone) and apply and brush on a bright colour powder shadow over it.the powder shadow prevents the black liner from spreading by the end of the day and the bright colours play up my eyes giving a fun summer twist to the whole look rather than plain black. i complete the look for the eyes with mascara applied just to the tips. its emphasizes he lashes for a simple daytime look without making your lashes look too heavy. then i apply powder blush over the apples of my cheek and then dab with a tissue to get off the excess so it stays on longer. for my lips i use a tinted balm to add a hint of colour and o keep it moisturised.
I usually don't apply make-up at all because I like ot go swimming when it gets hot out. The key is to not wear a lot of make-up or it will probably run. Water proof eyeliner and mascara work wonders, and NO EYE SHADOW! unless it's nude colored (and not a lot). I like to mosturize my face and not use fuondation or powder. When it gets really hot and sweaty I just go dab my face with a kleenex and reapply some shiny lip balm!

Whatever the time of year, my makeup is always very natural! Summertime is great for a bright cheek stain and glossy lips. Keep blotting tissue handy for quick touch ups!
I like to use The Body Shop's Vitamin C face spritz. Not only is it refreshing, but it helps to set your make-up! Try storing it in the fridge for an extra cool treat for your face on summer days.
I usually just go natural on the face when it's super hot. When I do use makeup I simply use a light foundation on top of a primer and I always use a base under eyeshadows to keep it in place.
I once heard this while watching TV, so I tried it and it worked! Take a cotton ball soaked with Milk of Magnesia. Apply a light layer. Let it dry and rub in any lines to smooth them out. Apply your makeup and your done!
What works for me in the summer is mineral powder foundation. It really stays beautifully applied and doesn't drop off like liquids. I also switch to cream blush which I pat on the apples of my cheeks. I always use eyeshadow base and even though my car AC is broken and the humidity in Atlanta is often higher than the temperature, I make it through the day with my makeup looking fabulous! I've never tried a stain, but it sounds like a great solution and I look forward to giving it a whirl!
a really good cleansing routing both in the morning and the evening, toners and a final rinse with cold water are a must....if pores are blocked they will sweat to get rid of stuff.
powders for the base and blush are fab and can be topped up/reapplied without being thick gunky creams
soft kohl eye pencil and not o.t.t. on the shadow so if it smudges then it looks like it should have the smudgy look. a fab pair of shades to stop your eyes squinting and smudging in the sun and are a must for watery eyed hayfever sufferers!
tissue paper (not tissue) is good cause it can soak up the moisture without taking off your make up...make sure its plain coloured though....colours will smudge!!

My favorite summer trick is to skip foundation, and use tinted moisturizer instead, with a bit of concealer. It's easy, and not as heavy.

I just use a tinted sunscreen instead of a foundation. Also i use white eyeshadow around my eyes, like a liner, to keep my eyemakeup in place.

and i do not use stains on my lips since i have dark lips and hence the colour dosent show.

lip balm, moisturizer, mascara, and bronzer... simple and light!
what color other than pink would show up nicely on tanned skin ?
I Just Adore My Lips When I Use Lip Stain! Great Product!Thank You!
