Cameron Diaz knows how to keep her makeup from melting off in the scorching summer heat.
Summer is here and with it comes soaring temperatures, sky-high humidity and lots and lots of sweat. All of which makes keeping your makeup from sliding off your face an almost impossible feat.
"Heat and humidity break down the makeup formulas, causing everything from mascara to lipgloss to separate and smear," says Chase Aston, The Body Shop's international makeup artist, whose clients include Cameron Diaz and Elle McPherson. Read on to find out how to keep your makeup in place when things start heating up.
- Start with a clean, primed palette. Excess oil on the skin can cause slippage faster than you can say "oil slick." Prep your skin by cleansing and toning, then moisturize with a mattifying lotion. Aston recommends applying an oil-free face primer to give your makeup extra staying power.
- Choose oil-free, water-resistant products. "Most makeup formulations contain natural oils that, once they warm up, will tend to slip and slide all over the face," says Aston. Extend your makeup's life cycle by switching up your usual products for those that don't contain oils. Instead of a cream foundation, choose a lightweight mineral powder foundation. Create a smudgeproof eye by using powder shadows and a waterproof liner and mascara. For lips and cheeks, ditch the heavy lipstick and melt-prone cream blushes in favor of sweat-resistant lip and cheek stains. He suggests: The Body Shop Hot Brights Lip Shine and Cheek Stain. Find out some of our favorite waterproof picks too!
-Stop a meltdown in its tracks. If your makeup starts to slide around midday, use a large white tissue to gently blot down your hairline, eyes, corners of the nose, lips, chin and jawline to suck up oil and smudges. If your eye shadow has creased, close your eyelid and press your finger against it to smooth the remaining shadow and wipe away liner and mascara. Wipe your lips clean and add a wash of balm or gloss to freshen up.
Washing your face everyday and night especially now can get rid of extra oils. Using a moisturizer with sunscreen, so that you dont have to put on too many thick layers. And using matte powder foundations, which will dull any shine that you might have.
{hairspray on your face?!} i usually use the water resistant black eyeliner-but it ALWAYS ends up on the outside corners of my eyes or fades by the end of the day. i've tried almost anything to prevent it too. i've switched eyeliners idk how many times! is there anything safe you can put near your eyes to maybe help it stay in place? [i'm in sports and running around all day, riding horses, & working does NOT help makeup stay in place] i don't put on foundation because it melts off anyways, no eyeshadow because my eyelids are a bronze color, and i hardly ever put on mascara except for church or a special occasion. it's just a light line on the end of my top eyelid and a medium line on the bottom one i'd like to keep dry and stable in one spot. does anybody know the trick????
I use a primer on my lids to keep my eye makeup in place. I don't do much else to the face. I also exfoliate my lips with my toothbrush so I can slick on gloss and not worry about dead skin!
I just switched from using mineral powder foundation to a tinted moisturizer. It's very nice (made by Mary Kay). The powder just doesn't stay on your face too long if you suddenly break into a sweat, lol.
I also use Mary Kay's eye primer, instead of having to go out and buy all new shadows that will stay. this way, i have no creases, and my eye make-up stays put ALL day. I HIGHLY recommend Mary Kay products. I've NEVR been able to find any type of product that works as well. No more junk draw for me! lol.

I am 60 yrs old and I tried mineral powder foundations but it made my face look older. Now I use and air brush for my make up. First I moisturize, then airbrush my make up. It stays on for 50 hours (not in pool). It will come off with soap and water or by rubbing it off during the night while sleeping.
I swear by airbrush makeup, it makes my face look fresh and beautiful all day.

all of you are saying powder! powder + any kind of moisture, ESPECIALLY sweat, = caky mess. at least on my skin it does. all though it evidently works for some women, i know im not the only one out there that this happens too. and the main reason u wear foundation is even out your skinh tone, right? well, i have red blotchiness problems, and uneven skin tone... what i recomend is not just a quick fix, but an overall fix thats longterm... wash your face with Dove uneven skin toned daily fase wash, followed by eucerin redhness reducer night cream before you go to bed. and in the morning to reduce puffy eyes anhd dark circles, wear frozen tea bags over your eyes for at least 2 minutes. then wash your face with the dove facial wash again, and wear eucerin redness relief sunscreen moisturizer, wear a green basedconcealer, then a skin toned based concealer. NO mascara, and powder eyeshadow. and for eyeliner, wear it very thin... for the smoky eyed look, smudge it with a small sponge. on the lips, either balm or stain.
