When things go wrong at the salon

When things go wrong at the salonWe've all experienced it: the horror of the bad hair cut. Our tendency is to suffer in silence until the stylist has done their worst, choke out a pathetic "thank you", and rush home to cry in front of the bathroom mirror.

What we need to do instead is to stay calm and tell the stylist that the result was not what you had in mind. If the problem is due to styling, simply ask to have your hair styled differently. If the problem is with the cut, you can calmly discuss it with the stylist and see if your concerns can be resolved.

If not, you can ask to speak to the manager or salon owner and see what can be done. You probably won't get your money back on the the current cut, but you should be able to come to a resolution that will satisfy both parties.

or cry all the day in front of mirror. What do you prefer?

cherista1g_p wrote: Wed, 2007-12-26 13:44

I have cryed, but not all day ...I have restyled it my self after getting home...I just do not know the correct cut to get. This is very helpful.

ch_lovin... wrote: Wed, 2007-12-26 14:12

Sometimes I just ask them what they think since they do it for a living....it's just hair. I am only picky about color and short short hair.

jen101 wrote: Wed, 2007-12-26 20:57

How lame. If you are the type of person to go home and cry in front of your mirror, this advice is not going to do you any good. If you are the type to stay until they fix it, then you already have this skill set. Got any real tips for us?

good job jen, really.
the tips were not helpful.

OH MAN!!!
this used to happen waaay to much to me...
thats why ive just found a stylist with the same sort of style as me who wouldn't do anything to me she wouldn't do to herself, while still keeping my individuality and uniqueness intact...honestly, ive never found talking it out satisfying just make sure he/she understands what you want and PAY ATTENTION! dont let them make a cut you dont like. if they are moving too fast either keep up or tell them to slow down... oh... and if you pay $10 at meijers for a haircut, youd be better off doing it yourself. if you care enough about your hair to cry about it (like i have in the past). spend some money on it! and if moneys an issue, then find a friend who knows how to cut hair, dont have one? ask current friends and see if they know someoene... network!
but thats just how i see things.

Yours is the SMARTEST and MOST helpful comment! Thanks!

Seriously! I love the idea about finding someone with your style of hair because I always look at the hairdressers hair before I let them touch mine! Come on now are you really going to let someone touch your hair if they have an ugly hairdo?

pcagar replied: Mon, 2008-01-14 01:04

Great advice Tanner, and 99.9% on the mark. You're definately on the right track but the one problem with going to a stylist who wears the same sort of style as you like is that she probably doesn't cut her own hair. Unfortunately, I figured that part out the hard way!!! Take it one step further... when you see someone (stylist, friend, stranger on the street) with a style that you love, find out who does their hair...the shop & the stylist.

Also, I don't care how long you waited to get into that chair....you should get up and leave if the stylist seems too rushed to start cutting before thoroughly taking the time to discuss what you want and whether it will work well with your hair type, facial structure, and amount of time you are willing to spend on styling your hair each day.

You don't have to spend a fortune to get a great haircut if you find the right stylist.

My dilema is that there is not a hair stylist in a seventy mile radius that knows how to cut natural curly hair except the dog groomer. Options are few, but hey the alternative is doing it myself and that would be the same as being bald. It sucks.. we need good options.. A wig is really looking good at this point in life.

I too have naturally curly hair and have the dame problem finding someone to cut it right. they think that your so "lucky" to have that kind of hair, RIGHT! Try living with it everyday of your life, at least with a perm you have a choice, and I don't know about anyone else with this type of hair, but naturally curly hair is not growing in perfectly symetrical. It's super curly in some spots, flat in others, sort of curly in others and the worst part is that NO ONE will listen when you try to tell them how to get the way you know it will go and you can control it everyday when you get home. On top of being curly my hair is super thick , so between "stylists" thinking I should go with the curls,(right),and not understanding when I tell them it needs to be thinned out as well, I have in my entire life found anyone who can actually listen and and do what I know what needs to be done in order for my hair to work well daily. With the straight, thin, parted down the center look is what everyone seems to wants and GETS, I have yet to find anyone ,as was said earlier, within 100 miles that can do my hair the way I know it needs to be done in order for ME to work with it everyday. I wish styling schools would learn to teach new stylists how to cut and style naturally curly hair, but most of all LISTEN to the person who deals with it everyday. They definately know what to do , and how to explain what they want. Thank God I'm not the only one with this problem. I would love to find someone who I could trust to do my hair the way I could deal with it everyday and not think that THEY know.

Restyling the cut is an option but the best choice is to go to friends who have similar hair and try their stylist.

It took me years to give up my butt length hair.
I guess I got lucky because
there alot curl and waves I
didnt know I had.
I told her to cut it real short.
She cut it short but not as short as I wanted so she took more off..
She worked wonders with the curls and wave only using a rolling brush and blow dryer
so I wouldnt have any fuss at
home after shower.
We've been working with different styles.
Found one I absolutely love.
So we stick with it.
I think I lucked out on stylist.

mimy_chavez... wrote: Thu, 2007-12-27 14:30

somtime tou may like or not, your style, wen is wet, so ask your stylis to blow dry'it so you can see the real leng and make shure it is wat you ask for,

if she alredy went too short, asker about fixit wit a diferent stile that goes rigth with your face and personality

ch_lovin... replied: Thu, 2007-12-27 18:31

That is good advice. Your hair always looks different when it's dry and styled. Usually my hairdressers dry my hair to see if the ends are even also.

Crying all day, will only result, in Red eyes, It will not help your problem, You need to face the Problem, and either, go back to the stylist, or make the best of it, and use some hir products, and wait for it, to grow in, and Find A New Stylist, And Learn From Your Mistake!!
