It seems this fall that when it comes to nails, anything goes. “At the fall shows designers were very bold, showing lots of muted fabrics with bright pops of color. Because of that we are seeing a mix of shades and finishes,” says Essie Weingarten, founder of Essie Cosmetics. Here are the biggest trends for the season:
There’s no better way to liven up fall’s muted hues than with a punch of bright polish. “It’s all about having fun with fashion and accessories and nail color is a part of that,” says Weingarten. Look for bright colors that will enhance your clothing color palette, like a hot pink nail with a black sweater or a vibrant orange with a chocolate shirtdress. As the days get shorter, nails get darker. You can’t go wrong with a seriously sexy dark nail it looks both luxe and a little dangerous and is the perfect complement to fall’s cozy layers. Best of all, you don’t have to settle for boring black as there are myriad dark colors to choose from, including deep purple, blue, grey and, our new favorite, green. Shiny and shimmery is so last season. The most modern way to wear nails today is matte. “It’s a spin-off of the matte makeup look, which is back in a big way,” says Weingarten. Instead of dropping tons of cash on a whole new wardrobe of matte shades, try Essie Matte About You. It’s a mattifying top coat that will add a matte finish to your favorite nail shades and is a much more cost-effective way to embrace the trend.
