The Truth About Thinning Hair

Nioxin_giveaway.gif

Thinning hair is not usually something women worry about, unless they are experiencing it firsthand. I know it's never been at the top of my list of beauty worries--until recently. After a particularly stressful month, my hair began falling out in scary clumps. While my lost locks gradually grew back in, this stress-based follicular folly really got me thinking about hair loss and what would happen if my hair hadn't grown back.

As a fine-haired lass, I've always done everything I can to boost, plump, thicken and add volume to my locks. What I neglected to consider is that as we age, our hair strands begin to lose thickness and density, resulting in noticeably thinner, weaker hair. You can apply all the volumizers and root lifters in the world, but if your hair is gradually fading away, there's not much that's going to help. Even scarier, this hair-aging process doesn't just affect little blue-haired old ladies--it can start as early as your 20s!

When it comes to anti-aging, we take great care of our skin, but we don't bother to take preventative measures with our hair. The good news is that there are some things you can do to help prevent thinning hair before it gets out of hand. One of the easiest options is to use the Nioxin Scalp & Hair Care 3-Part Systems.

Each personalized system is designed to create volume, reduce breakage, amplify hair texture, strengthen the cuticle and remove excess sebum from the scalp. I took a comprehensive quiz on the brand's site to assess my needs and found that I fit perfectly into the type 3 system--Fine, Chemically-Enhanced, Normal To Thin-Looking Hair.

The kit features a shampoo, conditioner and leave-in treatment. I loved the Cleanser and Scalp Therapy because they made my scalp feel energized thanks to a fab peppermint tingle. Definitely woke me up in the a.m.! The Cleanser helped remove excess, dulling residue from my scalp while the Scalp Therapy restored moisture to it, leaving my hair shiny and smooth.

The last step in the system is the leave-in Scalp Treatment, and this is where I had my misgivings. As those of you with fine hair can attest, we have to be very careful about the amount of products we put in our hair, otherwise our locks can start to look weighed down and greasy. I'm happy to report that the Scalp Treatment did none of the above. I applied it to my wet hair, combed through, then applied my usual heat-protecting spray and styling cream and my hair was not only soft and shiny, but bouncy and full as well.

I've been using the system for two weeks now and I really like it. My hair feels and looks healthy, shiny and soft--not to mention full and plump. Best of all, this easy to use system is relatively inexpensive at just $39.99 a set, making it a realistic option for those looking to prevent hair loss without shelling out a fortune. I'll definitely be using this preventative gem regularly to help keep my hair healthy and strong.

My hair first started thinning in my late 20s but was really noticeable in the last few years (I'm 38).

I'm 28 and changed my diet a few months ago and it messed up my hair. I'm trying to be patient but until then all I can do is put some healthy fats back in my diet and hope that does the trick

I used to have thick hair but I think with stress and craziness in my life, I noticed my hair was thinning more in the front. I'm not even 30 yet not that it's acceptable for any women to have thinning hair!

I've struggled since my early twenties with fine, thin hair and greys! I've been coloring for many years and the fullness and volume I used to be able to create doesn't really happen anymore. I would so love to try this package and try to restore some of my 20's youth...I am 39 now.

I have struggled with thinning hair for about 6 years now, This started happening after having gastric bypass. I thought that my beautiful thick hair wouldn't be a problem that if I lost a little bit it wouldn't make a big difference, boy was I wrong! I started going grey early in my 20's. I have lost a great amount of weight but the hair thinning and looking lifeless is such a bummer. I would love to give this product a try but the cost can be a problem for me, if I could be able to try it for free it would definetly brighten my outlook....I am now 39.

I need this!

Like the women in my family before me, I started thinning young! When I was 21 in fact. I'm just about to turn 30, and every year it's gotten thinner and thinner! So much so in fact that I had to consult a stylist a couple of years ago to mask this one particularly bad area right where my hairline meets my scalp! The thinning is noticeably worse when my diet is sub-par so I strive to keep my diet nutritious and healthy in order to keep my locks luscious also.

I started using Nixion about 4 years ago when I noticed my hair was starting to thin. I have used the color enhanced products since that time, I am very pleased with the results my hair is fuller and looks very healthy.

I am entering not for myself but for a friend of mine. Due to some serious health issues and the ensuing medication, my friend Brenda has thinning hair. When I first met her she had the cutest hair cut, blonde and wavy. Now it is terribly thinning on top and her self esteem has suffered as a result. Not being able to afford her medical treatments her hair has taken a backseat to everything. Being able to recover the fullness of her hair would help her feel better about herself and maybe improve her health issues.

My grandmother, to whom I was very close, died recently, and during her last days and the weeks following her death, I noticed probably triple the amount of hair fallout that I normally did. Everyone told me not to worry as it would grow back, and could be seasonal/stress shedding. As of yet, it has not really come back in, but the diminished thickness is not yet apparent to anyone but me and my hairdresser. I'm 28, so I thought I'd have several more years before having to worry about it.

I am entering for my 25 year old daughter. Of coarse as a mother I think she is beautiful. She has had a very tough last year with the loss of her job and trying to make ends meet. This has affected her health in more ways than one. I've seen over the past year her self confidence plummet partly due to the thinning of her hair. Her once thick hair has now become very fine and thin. Her hair over the past year has been falling out in handfuls. She of coarse is devastated. As a mother I would love to give her the gift of winning this product to help her regain her self confidence. Thanks for considering her when choosing the winner of this product.

Since I had my kids at 28 I started to notice that my was thinning. Now that I am 46, It seems have gotten worse. It's is a hard thing for a woman to be losing her hair. It is one the most important features of a woman. Most mornings when I am doing my hair, I try everyway possible to cover the balding section on the crown of my head. It upsets me that much, I sometimes cry. I have tried over the years, monoxidile, something like Rogaine, but a prescription. Never seen any difference, therefore, I stopped using it.

I would really like to try Nixon.

My hair started falling out when I was 33 due to the stress of my 6yr old sone dying from cancer. My confidence has been really low due to my hair. It's very noticeable at the front. Please help me!!!

My hair has gotten noticeably thinner after giving birth to my last child. I am 38 years old. My grandmother has very thin hair in the front and so does one of my aunts. I really want to try this system to see if it works.

I have had thinning hair since my forties and menopause, but after this year turning 62, I really notice the balding and thinning. I would love to try the scalp treatment. I use the color enchanced shampoo and conditioner. My hair is full of body and brings out a little wave. I like the way my hair is not as fly-away as normally as it is in the winter. Love this product. My hair dressor recommended it for me. Good advice!

I'd love to win this as I noticed my hair aging just after I turned 31 a year ago. Now I see more and more the thining and also found my first couple of grey hairs too since then. I'd love to be able to try out this system to give my hair some much needed help!

I'm entering for my Mother. After going through radiation & chemotherapy for Breast Cancer, Mom lost all her hair. It grew back a beautiful white color, but it was very thin. The doctors said there wasn't anything she could do about it. I know she is self-conscious, because she seldom goes out anymore. When she does, she frets about her hair so much. Then she feels that everyone thinks her hair is horrible. I would really love to get her self-confidence back for her along with a lovely thick head of hair. Please consider my Mom, Beverly for this prize.

Thank you,
Terry D

I'm in my mid-twenties and my hair has been falling out in clumps for about four years now. To be honest with you, I wash my hair once a week because I am afraid of washing it because of how much hair falls out. This sounds like a great product and I hope I can get the chance to better my hair situation so I won't be afraid to do something as simple as wash my hair.

I was recently diagnosed with Crohn's Disease at age 53. After many failed treatment attempts, I am now on Remicade, which has given me my life back. Unfortunately, my hair , which is thin and fine, is thinning significantly. I'l love to try these products!

In the last 7-8 years (I am 41 now). My hair is so fine that I feel hopeless as to what to do with it. I would love to try these products and see if I can gain some confidence back.

My husband has been thinning for years and nothing seems to stop it. I hope to win this so he can try for his self :) I know lots of woman have thinning hair my mom is in the front some and if this shows to work I would buy it for her to try :) Love new products that are promising

It started when I had my first son at 25. I noticed my hair falling out and thinning :(
I would love to try this product.

Thanks

I first noticed thinning in my mid-30s. Absolutely horrifying. And on top of it I have super fine hair. Like you said, unless you go through it people with thick nonthinning hair just can't relate. I have to wear my hair a certain way even...very limiting. But I always tell myself, things could be worse. :)

I started losing my hair when I got pregnant and they say it gets better after you have the baby but I'm still losing it! I'll try anything to help my poor hair!

My hairloss started in my mid 20s. I've always had thin hair but when I was younger I had alot of hair. In my 20s I abused my hair by dying it every month and using every chemical treatment out there. Im now in my 30 and the top of my hair is thining. This is extremely embarrasing and I'm constantly trying to find a solution. Stress definitely makes the hair falling worse. Finding a product that is affordable and shows results would be amazing.
