5 New Trends To Watch Out For

We jetted off to Las Vegas to comb through Cosmoprof, the world's largest beauty trade show. Hundreds of brands, both well-known and unknown, flock to this event to show off their latest launches. We sorted through a plethora of products to find the best new trends to look forward to in 2012.

Natural Products Get Luxe

Natural and organic products are still huge, but instead of harping on the save-the-Earth vibe, many green brands are now concentrating on making their products both appealing and affordable to the average consumer. One great example we saw was the adorable brand Love + Toast. Sold at Whole Foods, their new line for hair and body features 97% natural ingredients at prices under $15. Our fave: The papaya- and honey-infused Rich Conditioner.

Keratin Treatments Still Dominate

Sleek hair is hot once again, but many women are still spooked by all the bad press keratin treatments have been getting. With that in mind, many brands are finding more natural ways to smooth hair. Tela, an organic line created by master stylist Philip Pelusi, debuted the Phyto Keratin Smoothing Treatment Blowout, an in-salon treatment that uses certified organic, plant-based ceramides to smooth hair, increase shine and eliminate frizz for up to 6 weeks, all without any potentially harmful chemicals.

Space-Age Manicures

Although we saw a lot of crackle polishes at the show, the look that we think is going to dominate nails in 2012 is the magnetic manicure. Brands like Layla Cosmetics, an Italian company, are introducing lacquers that contain iron powders. When you pass a magnet over the wet polish, it "pushes" the powders, creating a marbleized effect. Expect to see a multitude of brands launching their own magnetic polishes over the new few months.

Customize Your Skin Care

When it comes to your skin, expect to see a whole different approach to taking care of your complexion. Gone are the days of choosing products based on your age or skin type. Instead, products will address what's called "lifestyle aging"--skin care issues caused by your health habits, environment and activities. Sin-Care, an Australian brand, has a range of nine treatment serums that are targeted towards beauty "sins" like smoking, tanning, lack of sleep and too much sugar in your diet.

Hair Color That's A No-Brainer

At-home hair color has long suffered from a reputation of being messy, mistake-prone and difficult to use. The advent of foam has changed all that with easy-to-use, mess-free application. Expect to see foams popping up in a variety of different dyes, both permanent and temporary. TouchBack's new Non-Stop Color System features a foam shampoo and leave-in conditioner that provide temporary color that lasts for up to two washes. Great for hiding grays in-between trips to the salon.
