What Guys Think Of Your Makeup

Natural_vs_Glam.jpg

When you think of sexy makeup, you most likely think of a dark, smoky eye and bold red lips. It turns out that most men think the exact opposite -- 70% of guys actually find the natural, fresh-faced makeup look sexier than the glammed-up femme fatale. Surprised? We definitely were!

We took to the streets and polled 50 real men to find out what guys really think of your makeup. Each man was presented with two shots of celebrities -- Ashley Greene, Charlize Theron, Megan Fox, Jennifer Lopez, and Zoe Saldana -- wearing very natural makeup and a more dramatic look. The guys were then asked which look they preferred and why. Here's the breakdown:

Ashley Greene
Natural: 76%
Glam: 24%

Charlize Theron
Natural: 72%
Glam: 28%

Megan Fox
Natural: 82%
Glam: 18%

Jennifer Lopez
Natural: 62%
Glam: 38%

Zoe Saldana
Natural: 54%
Glam: 46%

Most of the men preferred the natural look; many of them spoke strongly against the heavily applied makeup.

Jerry, 33: "I won't say that these women don't look great in both photos, but I just can't seem to get myself to care much for the heavy eye makeup and lipstick."

Ryan, 46: "Women don't realize how much men love them in their natural state. I'd rather see my girlfriend with no makeup on at all, or at least very little, then with all that stuff piled on her face."

Still, there were a few men who liked the glammed up look better.

Dominic, 26: "I think Zoe Saldana pulls both of these off pretty well. I'm almost torn because the eye makeup in the glam shot makes me look directly at her eyes."

Scott, 52: "At first glance, I would choose the more natural look but taking a second look, I'm suddenly more partial to Jennifer Lopez's glam makeup. To me, her makeup is glam, but in a subtle way."

yeah I liked the natural shots better also, because the women looked like crap in their "glam" shots, except for Jennifer. Their faces were all washed out. If you had actually compared them with their faces actually bare of all makeup and then with their slightly enhanced photos, I bet men would pick the makeup over the bare face. When you wear makeup it should enhance your natural beauty not make you look like a tramp, or unnatural. Balance the skin tone, enhance the eye, make lips look kissable.

I am not very satisfied to these answers. I prefer the type of make up that "shows" that a woman has been maked up. especially when shes going to go out at night. of course not to a beach or something. also, i believe that "glam" make up can cover your "bad facts of your face" better that the natural look !( please excuse my english!)

None of these women in their 'natural' face are actually natural! They're still wearing makeup (actually probably even more makeup than the glam shots!) Plus they've probably had some work done (Megan Fox clearly has).

The 'glam' part is just a choice of color and how it contrasts. This article is ignorant and so are the cromags that were interviewed for this crap!

I don't think these were very good pictures to show for comparison. So, I do agree that they look better in their natural look. I have to share that my husband does not like too much make-up on my face either. He says that women don't realize men don't care about that and don't really notice it. He likes to see a woman well dressed, with nice highlighted hair and nicely shaped eye brows...how about that? :) !!

Their "natural" makeup shots have very heavy eyeliner on all the actresses. Take that off and all the guys would be like "load on the eye makeup!"

I agree on the natural look. The natural look (meaning natural makeup look not clean faced) is so much more prettier in my eyes and to my husband who preferes the girl next door look.

I hardly ever wear makeup myself and still get a lot of attention so I can relate to this!

A lot of guys think that we wear makeup for them, I certainly don't. I wear makeup for myself, to make myself feel good. So I think it's really annoying when there are questions like this. It's like we're searching for men's approval, and if they say something then that something goes...Ridiculous.

I like both looks because they are very different and it's nice to pamper up sometimes and to be bold.

Cheesy. The so called natural look on these women would be considered glam on the everyday woman. The simple fact that their "natural" makeup is showing up in pictures is a statement as to how much makeup they are actually wearing....a TON!
And who gives a crap what men think? If you like to wear a lot of makeup, then do it. If you like to wear minimal makeup, then that's cool too. BE YOURSELF!!! There's a man out there that will appreciate you for who you are...never pretend or try to mold yourself into something you're not.

Something else to take into consideration besides the amount of makeup & colors is the expression. The 'natural' look shots have smiles, which automatically can change how someone looks & how someone perceives them. Zoe has the closest % rate and the smiles are close as well. Be natural or glamorous...smile like you mean it & you automatically look prettier!

I like the natural look because, personally, I look 10 years older when I try dramatic looks. Most men I know like the natural look, including my husband. I was always taught the key to good makeup application is making it look like you aren't wearing anything. Besides, if you have good skin tone and a nice complexion, why cover it.

iagree with the fact that the pics compared shoiuld have been one completely natural and one with them wearing makeup as the would everyday, instead of light makeup and dark makeup

Don't know why you were surprised, I certainly wasn't. I used to model, I prefer the natural look, as in make up that doesn't jump out and yell boo! A couple of times I went out in full model makeup just for fun. Guys looked, but didn't approach, except for one very drunken lout who said I must really think I was hot stuff, the way I was made up.

The fact is, most guys hate bright red lipstick and especially fingernails. Dipped in blood, one friend said. Ok for Goths I guess. Intimidating. They didn't like the fingernail art either. Do we care?

Makeup under strong lights has to be exaggerated to look good. You look like a Kubuki dancer in natural light. The smokey look? Hey, make up companies have to come up with something to sell their product. In real life, most of us just come off looking like someone punched us. A lot of the celebrities do too.

Cosmetics are a fantasy item. We are to a certain extent buying the advertising. If you need it to make you feel sexy and confident, do it. The guy might not like the makeup but he will like the attitude.

I was surprised by my own poll, taken over a number of years, asking men what they thought about the way women dressed, wore their hair, perfume. Waaaay too many of them thought we did it just to hook a guy. I usually asked them if they only wore deodorant and brushed their hair and teeth when they were going to be around a woman. I may wear a certain perfume if my guy liked it and I did too, but I would never wear one I didn't like. Perfume is for ME.

Now, everyone raise your hand that has put on make up when you planned to stay home alone all day, just because you like the look of it. I'll agree we have been brain washed into that attitude. On the other hand, it's kind of fun, isn't it? Personally, I think most guys could use a bit of concealer or mascara too. Anyone believe male models are out there in bare faces? Especially the blondes?

Now lets be fair. I want to see the MEN off camera look compared to their on camera style just as often as we see women compared.

Please. Men haven't the slightest clue what actual "natural" is. They're all "oh, I totally prefer my girlfriend without makeup", not realizing that what they're looking at is their girlfriend in her "natural" makeup look which usually takes about half an hour. If they ever got a chance to see actual natural they might die of shock.

they say they prefer natural, but when a woman passes by all glam, all heads turn! liars!!!!

Honestly, a natural beauty is best. I've seen them . But not many are. The hard part for the rest of us is to enhance one's best features, and make it look and feel good at the same time, and that is just not easy. It is worth the effort though, to experiment, study and try things out until you can find your best "look" and "feel". I think we all want to please ourselves, and yet, feel that others like the way we appear and feel to the touch, also.

Hopefully women wear make-up that makes them feel good. I don't think women care if men like the make-up or not (same with clothing) - women usually dress to impress other women, they certainly don't need it to attract men. Women know styles and trends - I don't think it's too normal for a guy to know unless they're in the industry. I would not be attracted to a guy who knew the brand of my shoes or the color of my eyeshadow! Men are going to like women either way. Also I agree with the other ladies - the "natural" look is made up as well. A TON of makeup is required to even show up in pictures!
