Finding someone you can trust with your hair is challenging--what woman hasn't had a hair trauma that resulted from a stylist who didn't understand their hair? The best way to guarantee you get the haircut you want is to be prepared: Knowing the right questions to ask will take the guesswork out of the process.
With that in mind I polled a panel of top hair experts (Redken brand ambassador Rodney Cutler, Tresemmé celebrity stylist Jeanie Syfu, Pantene celebrity stylist Tippi Shorter and Caile Noble, stylist at the Serge Normant at John Frieda Salon), then took their advice and tried it myself. Here's what they had to say:
I walked out of Woodley & Bunny rocking a new, shorter 'do that I absolutely loved. Thanks to the advice and hairstyling tips from my pro panel, I was also able to better understand what I wanted and what to provide my stylist with in order to help her create the perfect hairstyle for me. So the next time you head out for a haircut, arm yourself with these simple tips to ensure you get a look you love.

Great tips! But what do you do when you had a really cute cut (a short bob) but decide to grow it out and the in between stages are horrible??
-Robin
I have long Hair and would like something different.I" kind of scared to get it cut.
I live in the northern subburbs of Chicago. Do you know of a good Salon in my area?
Thank you for you help.
I love these tips that you have given. I tried it and my hair is the best I have had in a really long time.thanks again.
i did this last saturday unconciouslly !! yay me :)
Nice comments. I've suffered with bad hair cuts a lot, and I think God inspired me to use the step1 suggested here. The one tip I would add is when you see someone with a hair you like not only ask the name of the salon but also the hair stylist. that saves you the time on doing step 2. It has worked for me in the past 9 years!
I AM A FORTY-SIX YEAR OLD AFRICAN WITH AVERAGE FEATURES & ABSOLUTELY LUV UR TIPS. I WOUDL HOWEVER LUV TO HAVE A REALLY SLEEK SHORT DO THAT WILL KNOCK-OFF THE YEARS---SAY 4, 5 YEARS?? PLEASE HELP!!!
MagDa, get your hair even, from all sides and a little shorter backside, that should do.
As a former hairdresser, I totally agree with all the tips you gave. A favorite saying a beauty school instructor had was " I'm a Beautian Not a Magician!" The stylist is not a mind reader. She or he can give their ideas of what would look good for your facial structure, hair type etc... but, it may not be what you want.
Did you find someone in Chicago you loved? I live in the Southwest burbs, have long hair and need to find someone new.
Hi Melanie,
No, I actually was only in Chicago for a wedding, didn't have my hair cut while I was there. But definitely try these tips, they will help! You can also put out a Twitter call as I've found our tweeps to be super-helpful with that kind of info. Otherwise, just stop someone on the street whose style you like and ask them where they got it cut. Good luck!
