I was all excited when I heard that Nicole Richie had changed her hair color. She has always been someone I like to keep an eye on. Whether she is in the weeklies for being too skinny or married or pregnant or whatever--I like her. There are some people who I just think are good celebrities--even if they don't have a hit TV show (or any TV show) or aren't in a string of A-list movies (or really any movies) and Miss Richie is one of those people for me. I love reading about what she is up to, I love looking at her fashion choices and I love her evolving looks. Remember a few years ago when she cut her hair into that MAJOR concave, shoulder length bob with the asymmetrical side swept bang? DEVASTATING! I loved it.
So anyway, back to her color. I couldn't wait to see the end result (I have no idea who did it--but it wasn't me). In all honesty? It's a little boring. I was expecting a deep, rich, sultry, sexy, brunette hair color that would emulate the deliciousness of chocolate cake or the cool strength of walnut. Nope. All we got it is brown. Plain old brown.
Ok, ok, yes. It is very pretty. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the formulation or the application. The tone looks lovely from roots to ends, it is shiny and not matte or drab. The tone on tone variation is well done. The color is perfectly lovely - on a regular girl. A girl who lives next door. Not what I expected from a fashion girl who really had the chance to make a bold statement.
Am I crazy? What do you think? LMK.
I pretty much am Nicole Richie incarnate and I agree with you to the extent of plain brown...I disagree on the appliqué...HELLO it looks like Garnier or some shizzy...JB, I am going to fly ms. richie in to visit the inlaws in MD when ur in DC next, and we can have a real colorist do her hair...ie you!
PS LOVE AND MISS
I see your point but I think she made a bold statement by going from completely blonde to brunette in the first place. Let's face it brown hair IS boring. I have brown hair, so I know. What celebs do you like with brown hair? What do you think of Brittney's recent blond to brown? Happy New Year!
I bet some red streaks would be fun and flattering addition to the locks of the this beauty!
I agree with you, it looks very flat. I would have probably kept some highlights for dimension and also weaved a low light in.
I am with you, Jason..a little, shall we say "dull"? I see her with a little more caramel around her face....this hue looks almost purple...or is it my screen? Julia Roberts has made a good transition recently, at least I think so....
Hahahaha!!!! Well I LOVE to see all the comments - you all crack me up!!!
Gregory (when are you moving to NYC?) - I probably would have done something similar to what Ashley suggested (good eye Ashley) - typically I am not a fan of lowlights (that's why I got rid of Kate Gosselin's for People Magazine!) but on dark hair some level 2 or 3 lowlights can be DEVASTATING!!! Timur - you kill me and I think I will take you up on that visit with the in-laws scenario!!! Maryanne - happy new year to you too! Im not in love with Miss Brittney as a brunette not this time, the last time or the time before that - If it aint broke dont fix it!!! Mk - a little red variation would be SEXY - they would have to be a very garnet or violet based red/auburn tho otherwise they might look a little cheap.
Thanks so much gang!!!
Jason
Well, at least she isn't giving me a young, tired Goldie Hawn.
But right now, her hair looks like it USED to be BROWN, but she got caught in a storm and some of it washed out. It looks like she wanted a color to match her eyes. I used to do that; it never quite worked.
A warm, rich chocolate would've been great!

What would you have done differently to achieve that knock-out fashionista brown... ? from formulation... to application and technique/layout of color...? Just curious.. I do agree with you on this though... just curious as to what you would have done versus what I am whipping up in my colour bowls... peace and love !
