"Breakovers" On The Wendy Williams Show

mainlogobuttontall-1.jpg

I just love Wendy Williams. That is one woman who adores a wind machine as much as I do. In fact, she's said before on The Wendy Williams Show that she thinks women should travel with their own mini wind machines attached to their shoes. Hilarious. So I was delighted to be invited to come on her show for the full hour to provide "breakovers" for two gals who recently underwent breakups.

What's great about it is splitting up from your man, your job, etc., is that a woman can take this opportunity to change her look, which will in turn change her outlook. It lets her feel ready to take on the world. It's all very Waiting to Exhale, no? Here's what I did for these two gals' breakovers. Extensions were the focus for both of them.

On the first girl, I used my ted gibson clip-in extensions in Reese. To prep the hair before applying the extensions, I used my build it blowdry spray and beautiful hold hairspray to provide touchable hold. Lastly, I added kicky curls with a large-barrel curling iron.

On the second girl, I used a platinum seamless extension, which is an in-salon extension process that is a lot less time-consuming than Great Lengths, which we did for Kate Gosselin. It lasts three to four months. It's really cool, it has an adhesive that attaches to your hair in a strip--so it lays flatter on your head than any other extensions. The price ranges from $950-$2,000. After applying her extensions, we used hairsheets styling, beautiful hold hairspray and sleekified the 'do with my ted gibson flat iron. All Ted Gibson items are available here.

The end result? Both breakover superstars loved their respective new looks.

I recently had the opportunity to do the hair of the woman with possibly the most recognizable 'do in the nation--Anna Wintour. The VOGUE editrix personally requested me for two days in DC to tend to her tresses. We did a touch up one day, and a complete blow-out the next. She told me she was really pleased with the results. I found her to be extremely nice, accommodating and generous. She's unassuming, but she commands a presence. She told me to call her Anna and asked lots of questions.

The 'do itself? Well, darlings. Obviously, her hair wasn't changing, as she's into her very specific bob with bangs. Her hair is super thick and luxurious, so there was no volumizing involved. Fascinatingly, I used no product at all. I just styled it with a round brush--no flat iron, no other tools.

Golden Globes 2010 Hairstyle How-tos: Ashley Greene And Lake Bell

I was just in LA getting two of my favorite Gibson girls Ashley Greene and Lake Bell ready for the Golden Globes award shows, events and after parties. It was a busy busy day in La La land! And, I had to contend with the rain. No easy task. We made it through though. The gals ended up looking gorgeous.

Ashley Greene

Ashley looked BEYOND. I started by blowdrying with hair sheet styling then put in a deep side part using the ted gibson flatiron. With an elastic, I pulled her hair back into a low ponytail and used tame it shine lotion to give control and shine. Lastly, I followed up with beautiful hold hairspray to keep hair place with a medium hold to keep the hair soft and healthy while keeping it in place.

Lake Bell

For Lake, we painted a very wavy picture. I first added build it blow drying agent all over the entire head and began to blow dry with a medium-sized round brush. At home, to achieve fullness and length, you can add in ted gibson clip-in extensions. Then, I used a large barrel curling iron to give soft sexy waves and volume and finished off with beautiful hold hairspray to give light touchable hold.

Zoe Kravitz for Vanity Fair

Zoe-Kravitz-Vanity-Fair.jpg

I recently did the adorable Zoe Kravitz's hair for Vanity Fair shot by uber-talented Patrick Demarchelier. It's actually not the first time I did her hair. She is just adorable. First of all, I loved her hair for the Glamour Women Of The Year awards---what a cute little bun. Zoe has a great way of using words. During the shoot, we talked about a film she just worked on where she's the lead.

Let's discuss her hair: She is a bohemian, chic and downtown kind of girl. Young, innocent, you know. She doesn't have a relaxer, so I straightened her hair, and then set it into a '50s wave. I started with Tame It, and Hair Sheets Styling on Zoe's dry hair to blow her out. Then, I used a Marcel curling iron, keping the ends in. The secret is to wrap the hair under the curling iron, curl it all the way from the roots all the way to the ends. I spritzed with some Beautiful Hold Hairspray for a little hold, and then employed a wind machine, of course. All Ted Gibson products are available here. What do you think of Zoe's look?

Kate Gosselin's New Extensions: Clean Slate Kate!

Last Sunday, I helped fellow TLC star Kate Gosselin achieve a new look for 2010 with some fierce extensions. The process took 20 hours (quite a long makeover!) and we did it all in one shot at Kate's hotel suite. We understood the importance of getting the job done. Jason colored the extensions (stay tuned for his post on that!), while stylist Nancy put them in. We used the Great Lengths iteration, which are comprised of real hair. We chose Great Lengths because they're more permanent than other types of extensions.

Kate's former 'do included a long sweeping bang. But I think she was hiding behind that. It was a period of her life that she wants to move past. Kate has short, thick hair, and to make her long locks look as natural as possible, we had to put in 18 bundles of hair. The norm, for your reference, is 6-8 wefts. The extensions were initially 18-inches long (straight) and we cut them to right below the collarbone. I added in subtle layers and incorporated a bang she can either wear down or swept to the side.

To maintain her new 'do (and I think we can all agree this is definitely a DO!), I recommended that she not shampoo daily and opt instead for a sudsing at least every other day with Ted Gibson Daily Cleanse Shampoo and Conditioner. I used my Hairsheets Styling, flat iron and Beautiful Hold Hairspray for her cover shot for PEOPLE. All products are available for purchase here. Kate will need to come back to get her extensions touched up every 3 months and will need to get her hair color done again once every 4-6 weeks.

Overall, It was an amazing experience meeting her. Considering she hadn't changed her hair much in the last 2-3 years, she was surprisingly open to the process. Initially, she wasn't jazzed about the idea of bangs, but we worked toward it.I just think that bangs are sexy on a woman. I think a recently divorced woman just needs a makeover to help her exude as much sex appeal as possible. Because women with kids don't necessarily focus on sexiness, whether they have two kids... or eight. In fact, Kate Gosselin's calling her new look Kate Clean Slate. It's inspiring! She even sent an email today saying she loves it.
