There's nothing I love more than being able to help someone feel better about themselves by giving them a new look. Marie Claire asked me to come in and help transform the beautiful Ashley Falcon, who writes a column called "Big Girl in a Skinny World." The theme of the piece was using hair and makeup to look slimmer, so here's what I did!

Ashley's <a href="http://www.dailymakeover.com/blogs/tag_search.php?tag=?tn=1&tag=hair"title="hair">hair was dark brown to start. After some convincing, she allowed us to color it. Jason, who writes <a href="http://www.dailymakeover.com/blogs/hueman-behavior/"title="HUEman Behavior">HUEman Behavior, did the amazing highlights. The color change makes it sexy, yet also youthful and grown-up at the same time.

Next, I cut her long hair from middle of her back to just below her shoulders. It was important that she go through the process of changing her look. She was a 20-year-old girl getting her first professional makeover; we wanted her to have a before and after!

For the photoshoot, we went without the wind machine. To get Ashley looking fierce, I styled her hair using a blowdryer, a large barrel curling iron, <a href="http://estore.conceptheaven.com/clients/tegi/estore/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=21"target="_blank">Build It, <a href="http://estore.conceptheaven.com/clients/tegi/estore/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=21"target="_blank">Hairsheets Styling, <a href="http://estore.conceptheaven.com/clients/tegi/estore/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=21"target="_blank"> andBeautiful Hold Hairspray.

I think she looks absolutely gorgeous! How about you?

It's a tough job but someone's gotta do it. I traveled down to the beautiful island of St. Barts in the Caribbean with the lovely folks from Glamour magazine for a swimsuit shoot. The shoot was lovely: we were styling and photographing Crystal Renn, Brooklyn Decker and <a href="http://www.dailymakeover.com/hairstyles/alessandra_ambrosio"title="Alessandra Ambrosio">Alessandra Ambrosio for the cover (and a swimsuit fashion spread) of the magazine's annual Body Issue. This year, the issue celebrated the idea that <a href="http://www.glamour.com/fashion/2010/05/every-body-is-a-hot-body-crystal-renn-brooklyn-decker-and-alessandra-ambrosio-model-the-seasons-hottest-swimsuits"target="_blank">"Every Body is a Hot Body."

For the <a href="http://www.dailymakeover.com/blogs/tag_search.php?tag=?tn=1&tag=hair"title="hair">hair, we went very natural; very beachy and tousled. I used clip on <a href="http://estore.conceptheaven.com/clients/tegi/estore/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=25"target="_blank"rel="nofollow">extensions for all three girls and <a href="http://estore.conceptheaven.com/clients/tegi/estore/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=21"target="_blank"rel="nofollow">hair sheet styling because of the UV filter to protect their hair because we were on the beach shooting. You can see what I mean in <a href="http://www.facebook.com/ted.gibson#!/video/video.php?v=10150185905375564&subj=831055563"target="_blank">this video I posted on Facebook. The girls all looked super sexy in their swimwear!

It wasn't all fun and games, though. During the shoot, it started raining to the point where we had to pack up and leave. We had to take a ferry over and back from our hotel to the beach where we shot, and the waves were terrible! Despite that little setback, the food was delicious -- and good food is really all you need, right? We stayed in bungalows at the picturesque Guaraina in St Barth's.

What do you think of the photos? I think the girls look fierce!

As you Gibson Girls know, my gal Ashley Greene is one of Hollywood's hottest new actresses. She's even the new face of Mark Cosmetics! I loved doing her hair for the cover of Nylon magazine's annual <a href="http://www.nylonmag.com/?section=article&parid=4509"target="_blank"rel="nofollow">Young Hollywood issue (and the article inside) - we really brought the rock 'n' roll glamour to the shoot.

Ashley has extensions that she likes to rock in a sexy way, so I used <a href="http://estore.conceptheaven.com/clients/tegi/estore/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=21"target="_blank"rel="nofollow">Build It blow drying spray over her entire head and blew it dry using my fingers to create a soft - but not too deliberate - wave. After her hair was dry and tousled, I used <a href="http://estore.conceptheaven.com/clients/tegi/estore/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=21"target="_blank"rel="nofollow">Beautiful Hold hairspray to keep it in place without looking crunchy. As always, we had a wind machine going full-time at the shoot for that full-volume, amplified Ted Gibson hair.

Ashley shared the cover with two other hot young Hollywood stars, Vanessa Hudgens and Portia Doubleday, who kept the energy on the set high the entire time. There was music pumping and the mood was lighthearted and fun. They're young, fun, and fresh - but with an edge. Watch Ashley work the wind machine through her hair in the video from Nylon TV. What do you think of her long locks?

I love it when my Gibson Girls mix things up with their hair. A few weeks ago I got to to do just that with my girl Debra Messing, who was attending Mariska Hargitay's Joyful Heart Foundation Gala.

There was actually a strict dress code at this event: Everyone had to wear black jeans or leggings, so Debra paired her black leggings with this futuristic, silvery one-shoulder top and some amazing Pucci heels. Debra is a curly girl at heart, but I took one look at her outfit and knew we weren't going to be able to do what I call the Classic Debra Messing Curl & Wave. Since her outfit was so strong and modern, I knew we had to go for a strong and modern hairstyle. We talked it over and decided to do sleek, straight hair with a dramatic side-part.

I started off with wet hair using L'Oréal Professionnel Texture Expert Expansion Body Activating Mousse and Build It Blow Drying Agent and created that deep side part. I then blew her hair dry with an amazing Denman brush to help create that straightness and close down the cuticle for ultimate shine. Next I took a Ted Gibson flat iron, heated up to 350 degrees, to smooth out her hair. It's important to have it at that high of a heat because Debra's hair texture is so curly and can be on the coarser side, so it needs a bit more heat to make it stay smooth and sleek.

I finished up by spraying her hair with Beautiful Hold Hair Spray and tucked one side of her hair behind her ear. You'll notice I do that alot, with Debra in particular. That's because she has such an amazing taste in jewelry and I want to be sure that her hairstyle doesn't cover it up and instead helps to show it off.

Hello Gibson Girls! Boy has it been a crazy few weeks. Between filming What Not To Wear, shuttling back and forth from the New York and Washington, D.C. salons, plus all of my various television appearances, magazine photo shoots and red carpet work, I've definitely been busy! Last week was no exception as I styled not one, but two of my fave Hollywood ladies for the prestigious Costume Institute Ball: Anne Hathaway and Emma Watson.

The Costume Institute Ball, commonly called the Met Ball, is considered fashion's biggest night. Put on by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and hosted by Vogue magazine, the Met Ball is where all of the most fashionably fabulous starlets put out all the stops. For big red carpet events such as this, it's not uncommon for me to work with multiple stars, which can mean a whole lot of work. Fortunately, both Emma and Annie are so wonderful to work with that I had a blast, even though I was running all over Manhattan!

I started off uptown at the Mark Hotel where I met with Emma. This was my second time working with her and I have to say, I'm loving her more and more. Since she's a spokesmodel for Burberry, she was wearing one of their simply gorgeous gowns. I instantly knew I wanted her hair to be down, soft and wavy to really complement the dress.

Emma is Young Hollywood after all and a college student, but she's also very stylish so I needed a style for her that was effortless and easy, but most of all chic. I started off with wet hair, spraying Build It Blow Drying Agent all over her head, concentrating on the scalp to help create that root lift. This was followed by Hair Sheet Styling over her entire head to help fill in the cuticle and start building that gorgeous shine. After that I blew her hair dry, then tousled it with my fingers and used a medium barrel curling iron to create soft curls. I made sure to do a deep side-part because it really opened up her face and helped frame the her makeup look--a center part would have closed her off. To finish, I ran my fingers through the curls to break them up, then sprayed Beautiful Hold Hairspray to help keep it all in place.

Photo: © Kevin Mazur/WireImage

Once I finished up with Emma, I had to dash downtown to get to work on the beautiful Anne Hathaway. I'll admit it, I was running a teensy bit late. Okay, a lot late. New York City traffic speeds up for no man. Fortunately the lovely Lady Hathaway was very understanding, but I had to get right to work as soon as I stepped in the door. The moment I saw her stunning, sparkling Valentino gown, I knew we wanted to keep it simple and elegant. A dress as breathtaking as hers required hair that won't take away from its impact--the whole look should be seamless from top to toe.

I knew her hair needed to be a bit more structured; we definitely didn't want something that was too soft or romantic. I've been working with Annie for about 7 years now, so we've worked out a comfortable kind of groove. I started off on wet hair and used Fix It Styling Gel Used all the way through to the ends, then blew hair dry with a large round brush. After drying, I used a large barrel curling iron to create a subtle wave. Normally when you are creating waves, you take a section and wrap it around the iron from the top of the hair down. I wanted Annie's hair to have just a little bend on the ends instead of a full-on curl, so I took sections and wrapped her hair around the curling iron starting with the ends and working my way up. This gave her hair more curl on the ends instead of the roots, so the look was pretty, but not overly done or romantic. I then back-combed her entire head to give her more volume at the scalp, brushed it through with my Mason-Pearson brush to smooth it out, sprayed it with Beautiful Hold Hairspray and tucked it behind her ears.

It was a whirlwind of a night, but both ladies looked amazing and I had so much fun working with them. What do you think of their fashionable hairstyles? Remember, Beauty Is Individual.

It was a funny shoot; Chelsea was intended to look like Abigail's publicist, while Abigail was playing a diva teen actress.

I worked with Chelsea before on a Vanity Fair spread. It's always a good time, that woman is hilarious. We laughed the entire time. On Chelsea's hair, I used my ted gibson clip-in extensions in Reese, which we flatironed straight. I cut them shorter, so that they grazed her shoulders. I intended them to be more for volume, not length. Lastly, I used hairsheets styling, tame it and beautiful hold to finish Chelsea's look. All ted gibson hair products are available <a href="http://estore.conceptheaven.com/clients/tegi/estore/scripts/" target=_blank" rel="nofollow">here.

This was my first time working with Abigail Breslin. She's great! For 13, she's very mature. On Abigail, I used the same products, except for the extensions.

What do you think of their looks?

I'm so happy to announce that I'm going to be doing a series of hair videos for <a href="http://essence.com" target=_blank" rel="nofollow">Essence.com! I appreciate Essence.com not only for their extensive beauty coverage, but especially for the fact that they put such a premium on hair that it's its own category one the site's navigation bar. As in: News, Entertainment, Fashion & Beauty and THEN Hair. Right?

So the first of the videos is now up and it's all about how to change your look in a matter of 10 minutes or less. I worked with a client at the Ted Gibson New York Salon and glued on two tracks (extensions) to add length to front of her hair while giving dimension to her dark hair color. Check out the video below.

The toolkit: I used two different tracks, my ted gibson flat iron, tame it shine lotion and beautiful hold hairspray to set it. All ted gibson beauty products are available for purchase <a href="http://estore.conceptheaven.com/clients/tegi/estore/scripts/" target=_blank" rel="nofollow">here. The client loved her new 'do and I was so happy to be able to help her see the beauty in herself.

It's a 'do a day for style chameleon Kate Gosselin!

For Kate, we wanted to create a new 'do just for her premiere on Dancing With The Stars. The next day after the premiere was shot, she want back to her regularly-scheduled extensions. Kate Gosselin's hair was colored by Jason Backe first, before I styled it. Her sleek new bob is both sophisticated and chic. This is the best direction for her at the moment, as this new hairstyle will help her get ready for her show persona.

To style Kate's 'do, I used build it blowdrying spray and hairsheet styling to give added shine and protection for blondes on-the-go. I then followed up with beautiful hold hairspray to give soft hold and placement. What do we think?

It's about a sexy, center-part and a youthful girl vibe. Lake's hair was down, so I curled it and used <a href="http://estore.conceptheaven.com/clients/tegi/estore/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=21" target=_blank" rel="nofollow">ted gibson hairsheets styling for her blow-out and then added some tame it shine lotion to create texture. I employed a large barrel curling iron before finishing with beautiful hold hairspray. Little bit of teasing for volume and we were good to go. Doesn't it compliment her dress? Let me know what you think!

This season, for Lela Rose's Fall 2010 fashion show it was all about polish and sophistication. I achieved both by creating a modern and textured French twist hairstyle. The shape of the back is a crescent moon, which also ties into the celestial look.

The French twist boasted a lot of texture. I used build it spray and fix it gel from ted gibson to give it that extra jazz. Then, I backcombed hair and blew dry then tilted the models' heads over for a side-to-bottom french twist. Lastly, I finished with my beautiful hold hairspray. They know their consumer very well and cater to their cool, chic but never stuffy sensibility. For the Fall 2010 show, I decided to create an equestrian ponytail for the Vena Cava girls backstage. It's all about a girl who's been horseback riding all day long. It's effortless and super cool. We pulled the hair back into a ponytail and then tied it back with a leather strap. With the horsewoman theme, it's only a hop and a skip from Ralph Laurenvillle. We didn't want it to be quite that kind of party, so we made sure to keep it very downtown and cool with the help of color. We added in Streekers in shades of purple, green and pink. Streaks of color are a major trend for fall.

So the final feel is equestrian, but not stuffy. This is a very hip girl. There's slight texture at the roots and then a lot of rough texture throughout to give it that windblown, look.
I love working with Carmen Marc Valvo during Fashion Week. This was my third season doing hair backstage for his presentation and I just love his chic sensibility. His willingness to mix risky elements into his chic garments is amazing and makes for a sophisticated and fun look.

Carmen Marc Valvo was inspired by a movie called Lust Caution, a Chinese espionage thriller. So, we went for a decidedly Asian influence mixed with a '40s vibe. Many of the models were wearing inspector-type hats, so to offset that, I created a deep side-parted fob (faux bob).

To pull off this vision, I secured the length of hair underneath by tucking it under. Then, I used a curling iron for a bit of wave. I blow-dried in some build it lotion for volume, used a bit of fix it gel for control, tame it shine lotion for gleam and then finished for beautiful hold hairspray to ensure it would last throughout the show. All products are available here. Lastly, I pinned the free side of the hair with a bobby pin to impart a youthful vibe. Nothing should be so serious. Right, ladies?

In short, I'm down with CMV (yeah, you know me). Are you? Tell me your thoughts in the comments!
