The Easiest Morning Sunscreen Routine

La Roche-Posay Anthelios 45 Ultra-Light Fluid for Face .jpg

Scary fact: One person dies of melanoma (the deadliest form of skin cancer) nearly every hour, according to the American Cancer Society. Daily sun protection is as important as all the other basics to good health such as eating well, not smoking, and regular exercise.

Putting on sunscreen every morning doesn't have to be an extra step. All I do is mix a generous squirt of SPF 30 sunscreen with a dime size drop of my favorite tinted moisturizer or foundation, then slather it all over my face and down my neck. I actually love this routine because it makes my foundation look very sheer and natural and the sunscreen looks less shiny on my skin--it's the best of both worlds.

My favorite sunscreen is La Roche-Posay Anthelios 45 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid. It's water-resistant, broad-spectrum and feels extremely light on the skin.

Get A Haircut To Help The Gulf Coast!

bang trim.jpg

Watching the powers that be figure out how to clean up all the millions of gallons of oil from the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf Coast is overwhelming and heartbreaking--but there is something YOU can do to help. Get a haircut! Human hair is being collected to create oil absorbing mats or "booms" that surround and contain as well as soak up oil slicks.

One of NYC's top salons, SALON AKS (212.888.0707), is now collecting all of the chopped off hair that is usually swept into the trash and sending it to Matter of Trust, a nonprofit organization that is helping to mobilize hair donations from across the country. All hair lengths and textures are accepted, even color treated hair. The only requirement is that hair must be clean (which it is after a cut anyway).

If you don't live in NYC, ask your local salon if they are participating in a similar Gulf Coast relief effort or encourage them to sign up with Matters of Trust. Every little snip helps!

Jennifer Lopez's Beauty Secrets

Ever wish you could glow like J.Lo? Well, meet the man behind her famous face. Celebrity makeup artist and glow man extraordinaire Scott Barnes recently threw a party to celebrate the launch of his new book, About Face. There to celebrate were some of his famous friends, including Miss Lopez herself, Christian Siriano, Kat De Luna, Kelly Rowland and Wendy Williams.

Barnes is famous for his ability to give women an inner light and in the book he shares some his trademark transformational secrets. One of our favorite beauty tips from Barnes has to do with sculpting. Before he puts anything else on--concealer, foundation, blush--he first enhances a woman's facial bone structure with contouring and highlighting creams and powders. Most makeup artists will sculpt after they've put on your foundation and concealer, but Barnes swears that sculpting beforehand creates a gorgeous inner radiance that looks natural and ethereal. One look at Jennifer Lopez and we saw instantly what he meant!

Speaking of J.Lo, the megastar gave us the scoop on the best beauty tips she picked up from Barnes.

"The number one beauty tip Scott has taught me is to stay out of the sun. We've always worked with bronzers and self-tanners instead. It's been over 10 years now that Scott has been telling me to stay out of the sun and it has saved my skin."

Jennifer also dished on one her favorite skin care products: Dr. Hauschka's Rose Day Cream. It uses rose petal, rose hip and avocado to protect your skin from dryness and irritation and help seal in moisture and create the perfect canvas for your makeup.

J.Lo also added this praise: "The best thing about Scott is that when you sit in his chair, before he puts a stitch of makeup on you, he makes you feel like you're the most beautiful woman in the world."

If you want to learn more of Scott's insider secrets and unique tips, including how to create the looks of some of your favorite stars, check out About Face, on sale now.

Face Slimming Hairstyles

Just like the perfect little black dress can make your body look sleeker, a flattering hairstyle can take pounds off of your appearance. On the flip side, the wrong hairstyle can add unwanted to weight to your face. It boils down to simply knowing how to minimize a round face shape or wide cheeks and how to bring out your eyes and lips. There are only three simple steps to finding the most flattering face slimming hairstyle.

1. Try a side part. A side part allows you to sweep bangs or long face-framing pieces diagonally over your face, which breaks up a round face shape. This style can also bring out your cheekbones.

2. Your hair length should at least skim the shoulders. A cut that is around shoulder length or slightly longer creates the illusion of a longer, leaner face. Short cuts aren't a good option because they can add more width to an already full face shape.

3. Play with layers. Layers around nape level can help minimize a double chin and give more definition to the shoulder area. If you have fine hair, layers will also give it a body boost. But make sure you don't get layers that are shorter than chin length, which could add an unflattering wideness to your face.

Katy Perry Bridal Hairstyles

Katy Perry may have kissed a girl (and liked it), but the sultry songbird is now betrothed to British funny man Russell Brand. She is quite the style chameleon: In the past year, the blue-eyed brunette experimented with bangs, retro waves, bobs and updos with reckless abandon. So when we heard about her recent engagement, we couldn't resist giving her a bridal-specific makeover. Here, our favorite looks for Katy impending nuptials:

Katy_Perry_Rose.jpg

We loved Rose Byrne's sparkly barrette she rocked to anchor her side-parted Old Hollywood waves. Katy loves a side-part and would be able to pull off a little dazzle against her canvas of deep black tresses.

Teri Hatcher's sleek side-parted side-bun is a bridal win as well. We love it for its subtle chicness.

A '20s finger-waved do like Kim Kardashian's would appeal to Katy's retro yet edgy sensibility. Bonus: This updo would provide ample hold during what will no doubt be a night of dancing and mayhem.
