One of the most exciting parts of the Grammys (at least for me) was seeing Britney Spears hit the red carpet. That's right, I'm not ashamed to say it, I'm on Team Britney. Her bubblegum pop glory days in the late 90's and early 00's were ones I secretly relished. Her performance at the VMA's with that snake? Priceless.

Unfortunately it's been a rough and rocky road for poor Brit Brit since those days, but when I saw her at the Grammy awards looking reasonably well put-together and in control, I started to get hopeful that maybe 2010 would be the year Britney finally nails that comeback.

What really caught my attention wasn't her see-through dress (that hot mess is a whole other story), but her new brunette hair color. Maybe it's because she's been running around sporting bleached, fried-out extensions as of late, but I really liked the chestnut color and caramel highlights. It looked shiny, lush and healthy instead of straw-like and bland.

Celebrity colorist extraordinaire Rita Hazan politely disagrees with me. She thinks Britney looked better with her golden blonde locks from back in the day. "Blonde works better with her pale skin and makes her look happy and young. [This brunette] is not a good fit because it makes her look matronly and older," she says.

What do you think, do you like Britney better as a blonde or a brunette? Tell us in the comments!

I agree with you.... the chestnut color and caramel highlights. It looked shiny, lush and healthy instead of straw-like and bland.
She looks healthy and more like a mother instead of a popstar. The blonde does work when she's on stage but in the real life, she should go with the chestnut.

A personal opinion however; I think that the chestnut, with caramel highlights give her a fresh look, her face radiates with beauty. Where with the blonde, she looked washed out. I love the new look, she beautiful anyhow!

Blonde is way better for her!!!!

i agree with Rita, she looks better as a blond, in the picture you do have to take in considration that one was taken in 2001 and the last in 2010, that's 9 years ago! I do believe brunette hair shines more and looks healtier but in my opinion she looks better as a blond.

I think Britney looks great either way! It's possible that she's trying to get away from her previous blonde pop princess look, and her new darker haircolor does make her look more grown up.

I think her skin looks radiant with dark hair, lovely.

Before reading the article and looking at Britney's new hair colour, I immediately said that her hair colour does not enhance her...it really makes her look older...but worst she does not look like herself anymore. Reminds me of Celine Dion when she cut her hair and dyed it blond for her Vegas Act...she went back to her long hair and a better hair colour...that says Celine. Therefore colorist Rita Hazan is absolutely right when she said "Blonde" works better for her skin tone.

Hi Viana,
Yes that's true, the before picture is from 2001. Unfortunately, Brit hasn't been sporting the best hair in the last few years (scraggly, fried out extensions has been her look of the decade) so in order to really emphasize what a good blonde for her was we had to go all the way back to when her career was really at it's highest. Check out her gallery if you want to see more recent examples of Britney as a blonde: http://www.dailymakeover.com/hairstyles/britney_spears

love it!

She looks fresh, young, and pretty. What a delightful change!

I agree with you that her dress wasn't so great and her body's not perfect but she is still the most beautiful woman in my eyes. Don't forget that it's not her hair color that makes her beautiful, but rather her smile alone. To me, she seems more innocent and sincere, not like Lady Gaga or Beyonce.

she looks way better like a bronet like me :)

i think brittney has not always been perfect and in this case her dress wasnt perfect her makeups not perfect but like almost evreybody says nobodys perfect and honestly does perfect really matter i mean i think she is still as perfect as i did whan i as little yeah she did go through a rough time and not evreybody liked her but the importand this is she is back and is impressing almost evreybody

i think brittney looks better with the chesnut color she looks more safisticated like her real age not like an outrageous pop star on stage she looks good blonde but evreyday life i think she looks better brunette
