Just like the perfect little black dress can make your body look sleeker, a flattering hairstyle can take pounds off of your appearance. On the flip side, the wrong hairstyle can add unwanted to weight to your face. It boils down to simply knowing how to minimize a round face shape or wide cheeks and how to bring out your eyes and lips. There are only three simple steps to finding the most flattering face slimming hairstyle.

1. Try a side part. A side part allows you to sweep bangs or long face-framing pieces diagonally over your face, which breaks up a round face shape. This style can also bring out your cheekbones.
2. Your hair length should at least skim the shoulders. A cut that is around shoulder length or slightly longer creates the illusion of a longer, leaner face. Short cuts aren't a good option because they can add more width to an already full face shape.
3. Play with layers. Layers around nape level can help minimize a double chin and give more definition to the shoulder area. If you have fine hair, layers will also give it a body boost. But make sure you don't get layers that are shorter than chin length, which could add an unflattering wideness to your face.

She already is skinny, how can we tell the difference? You should take an Average woman and get an hair style that compliments her face.
of course she's slim, look at that chin, she's no roundface.
I thought there would be some normal women.. not the likes of celeb's.. who have hundreds of stylist to work w/ them.
Then they pick so me hair styles that look like they need to go shower and wash their hair.. what is w/ the limp.. I didn't have time to brush / fluff my hair ??
On a bad day.. I look better than they do.. and am almost 60
Have to agree with all who have posted as of yet....get some everday/anonymous women to show how different cuts/styles would change appearances.
now THAT is a very true statement!
It would be helpful for those of us without long hair to see something that a shorter cut and style could do for the face. I had to have chemo after cancer and my hair is short and thinner than it used to be so I am finding it difficult to find something flatteriing that I have enough hair for.
I think we should forget about haristyles that show a slimmer face and focus more on hairstyles of the day to reflect independence.
I was hoping that there would be more than one photo of a slimming look. I agree with the other comments- Jamie-Lynn Sigler's face isn't necessarily a wide face because her chin is pointy. It'd be nice to see a revision of this article with more photos with some real, non-celebrity women thrown in the mix. Also, even though I have long hair (and a wide face), I agree with Jan that there needs to be examples of short slimming dos as well. I really don't agree with the part of the article that says short cuts cannot be slimming. I mean, look at Ginnifer Goodwin, for example; She has a pixie do and a round face, and it compliments her face shape very well- and it doesn't necessarily exaggerate her wide facial features. Another wide-faced gal, Michelle Williams, has also pulled the short-short pixie look off well. The short bob with bangs (when cut right to elongate the neck) does wonders for a wide face. Really, though, some ladies (with full faces) don't have the time to maintain a shoulder-length or longer hairdo, so making the suggestion of having a short haircut is a no-no for wide face shapes is a little lame.
The three steps stated are useful, but my biggest complaint with most of these sites is they never give a girl options. Sure we have all heard if you have a round face length and layers are key, but cant we go with a shorter hairstyle too? It has always been tough for me since i have the round face and a head full of natural curl! It took me months and months to find a short hairstyle that i liked and didn't feel would make me look like a blob. My hair has a ton of layers, highlights and it above my shoulders. I think the true key is finding a stylist that knows how to shape hair well, and can give you a style that you can do at home. My face does look a little slimmer with longer locks, when it is straight it sheds a few pounds too. They also say height is a good easy way to give a leaner face. Hope some of this helped.
Not everyone is blessed with long hair, therefore saying that you should at least have shoulder lenght hair is a slap in the face... good grief I'm lucky to have as much hair as I have! I agree, use real everyday people for your articles, not celeb's or someone who has access to a stylist all the time, and surely not someone who is already stick thin!!
I think some short hairstyles look good on certain people not everyone can wear it short, having big eyes helps!
I wish there were some short cuts in here too. Maybe a lot of them are unflattering, but I know I get far more compliments and "Have you lost weight?" comments when I have a very short, almost pixie-ish cut than I ever did with any other hair length. (And for the record, I've gained weight, not lost it, and my face was pretty round & wide even before that.) Short cuts can be very flattering and even slimming if you get the right one!
I agree with what everyone else said before me. And I believe that Kas looks better. This was not helpful at all. These makeover tips are really not worth looking at. I'm going to unsubscribe.
I totally agree with the 3rd point..a layer above the chin does widen a long and chubby face
I do have a fuller face and got a hairstyle like what they describe and people started asking if I lost- so I gues it works. I don't know for sure though 'cause I'm losing my eyesight. Besides, most of the time people aren't looking me in the face anyway- they're staring at my cane or my 'assets' or the second hand clothes I have to buy since I can't afford anything new. I've got to a point where I really don't care about others' opinions- what matters is how I feel.
I love how they put skinny models in to test slimming hairstyles lol, why not put it to the test and put a heavy person in the shot LOL? You would think it was rocket science!
She IS slim! But it works. That's how I wear my hair. I split it from the middle. I used to choose one side, sometimes left to right or the other way around, but as I got closer to my 18th year I realized I still look like a 12 year old. Besides making my round face slimer, it makes me look a bit more mature too. I don't like wearing it too flat however. I have curly hair and I love it with plenty of valume, without frizz. It really does compliment my facial features, and I am a curvy short girl. I also realized that just keeping in split from the middle (not a straight line though, that would be harsh) and keeping my hair fun bouncey and sometimes behind my ears my jaw lines look better too.
PS I was hoping for more tips. This article is too short (even though it was a topic that aimed toward me).
I actually have a hairstyle like this and even though i am already slim it makes me look like i am taller!
Why do you always have to show Celebs? They not only have hairstylists on hand to make them look great, they have makeup artists who can make their faces look thinner with makeup applications.
Why can't you use a "normal everyday woman". Also, we need to see some short hair styles.
If you think, a normal straighted hair would do nicely on round faces, then without your fringe, if your outgrowing ya fringe, then straighten your hair and clip it back. It made me look the perfect weight! And im a risk of BEING overweight! Im going to use this Hairstyle forever.
