How To Stop Cosmetic Meltdown

When the temperatures soar like they are right now, you may find that your makeup becomes a melted mess of hotness. Even your skin creams can feel too warm and gross on the skin, and you may be searching for some icy cold relief. I have some summer tips to keep your makeup melt-proof, and your skin cool and refreshed.

If eyeliners or lip liners heat up and get mushy, and every time you try and draw on a thin line, you get a thick gob of goop; then try this easy trick. Simply pop them in the refrigerator for a few minutes, and the tips will cool and harden, allowing for easier sharpening and perfect precision. Choose waterproof formulas like Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Forever Stay Moisture Gloss that won't melt off your face in the heat.

If lipsticks melt in your purse during the day, try applying your color early in the morning and then sticking the shade in the freezer. Before leaving the house, pop the frozen tube in your purse, and it will stay cooler longer in your bag. If you are at the beach, park or a BBQ, keep lipsticks in the cooler so they stay solid. If they are just too much work, opt for colored gloss this time of year instead.

For a fresh and fast skin pick-me-up keep herbal toners or mineral sprays in the fridge so you can give yourself a cold burst of spritz whenever you feel the need. This will rejuvenate sweaty skin and refresh your makeup. Keep eye and face creams in the fridge as well, and they will reduces puffiness when applied as well as cool you off in a flash.

As an established makeup artist, many beauty brands send me samples of their latest products for consideration. I only write about the items that I truly love and I always abide by Daily Makeover's Editorial Ethics Pledge in each of my Positively Beautiful posts.

There are three products I just adore to prevent summer melt-down.. thought I’d share with my fellow makeup junkies!

Best Eye Liner – Stila Smudge Stick. They came out with this just in time for Summer 2010 and I’m amazed at its staying power. This is the one and only liner I’ve ever been able to find that will actually line the rims of my eyes without coming off. It’s super soft, comes in some awesome colors, and looks beautiful even after several hours of swimming. Costs around $18 at www.sephora.com

Best Makeup Setting Powder & Primer – Mattify! Cosmetics Loose Powder. I wear it underneath my liquid foundation to make it last longer & it also prevents my pores from clogging (which has always been a BIG problem for me in the hot summer months). How do I know it works? I got lazy and didn’t apply it for two days in a row & it was breakout city! It keeps you shine free for several hours, and double tasks as a primer and setting powder. Costs around $8 at www.mattifycosmetics.com

Best Makeup Setting Spray – Model in a Bottle. I actually found this on the Mattify Cosmetics Website as one of their product suggestions. This stuff really does the trick to set your makeup & guard against sweat and humidity. You mist it on after all of your makeup is in place. If your face gets wet and/or sweaty, just blot it dry with a towel or tissue and your makeup remains in place. It’s gentle too, hasn’t caused any breakouts and I’ve been using it for about 8 months. I wear it daily because my skin is so darn oily – my makeup disappears fast if I don’t use the setting spray. This costs around $18 at www.modelinabottle.com

Hope these tips can help some ladies who are in search of long lasting makeup!
