There's something about the crispness in the air that just makes you want to feel a bit more "done" than you do during the hot, humid days of summer. Now that long maxi dresses have been traded in for tweeds and cashmere, it's time to trade in those beachy waves too. But where to look? Young Hollywood doing Old Hollywood glamour.

Celebrity stylist Adir Abergel from the Frederic Fekkai Salon who created Sienna Miller's gorgeous retro looks for one of her many GI Joe : The Rise of Cobra appearances, definitely looked back in time for inspiration. Abergel says that "Deep side parts are going to play a big role this fall. They will give you more volume and an instant change in style." Large pin curls are the perfect complement. Just ask Sienna Miller, Kate Bosworth and Kim Kardashian.
David's easy tricks: On dry hair, start at your hairline and roll hair back away from the face. Pin each section with a small clip and let cool in place. Use Shu Uemura Iron Design on each section to support and define curls. Then, remove the clips and brush through your hair with a soft bristle brush before finishing with hair spray.

Yeah, I'm with Marty - what the heck are you talking about???!?!
I agree. The directions are very vague. It would be nice to have more detailed instructions, possibly with pictures to make it easier to understand.
I think they mean to use a curling iron curl away from your face and then pin the curls up to let them cool. Then when they're cool, let them down and brush. HTH!
I tried this look last new year at a fancy dress party and it's fab! I got the instructions from you tube. I searched under "Old hollywood styles" and there was a hair dresser who did it step by step on a model, which was really easy to follow. I can't remember the link now, but i'm sure it would be easy to find.
From what I remember, I used a curling iron on dry hair & each curl is rolled/ringed up & pinned close to the head to cool while you do the rest (spray hair with a little hair spray before curling). Do your make up while cooling then let it down. I didn't brush out the curls, just used my fingers to loosen them, then sprayed loads of hair spray to keep it all in place.
"On dry hair, pin with small clip and let cool in place"? Let someone else explain how to achieve this look, because the writer of this article obviously can't.
What they don't tell you is that the wearers actually wear wigs or have extensions in, and it's not just styling irons and hair styling products only!
hi marty, I agree those directions are not easy to follow. and I am a hairdresser ! if you look up pin curls(or other hair styles& make up looks) on youtube they have some good video's that are easy to follow. that's the same advice I give my clients to reference to when practicing at home. hope that helps =)
Those directions made no sense. A lot was left out. A few pictures would have said a lot more.

Old hollywood waves, pin back as you roll, then curl withiron. Thats abit difficult for a novice to understand I think. Surely there is an easier way to explain how to make such soft nice waves as shown above. Certainly I dont understand by your directions what to do...sorry but were not all hairdressers !!!
