Step 1: Start with smooth hair. Leaving pieces out in front, isolate a halo section of hair on top of your head.

Step 2: Take a two-inch section within the halo and hold straight up. Use a tight-toothed comb and backcomb in short strokes along the back of the section down toward your scalp. Repeat with all sections within the halo.

Step 3: Use a natural-bristle brush and smooth hair on the surface of the halo section as you direct it back. Roll vertically from the ends until it snugs up against the back of your head. Pin into place.
