“Breakovers” On The Wendy Williams Show

mainlogobuttontall-1.jpg

I just love Wendy Williams. That is one woman who adores a wind machine as much as I do. In fact, she’s said before on The Wendy Williams Show that she thinks women should travel with their own mini wind machines attached to their shoes. Hilarious. So I was delighted to be invited to come on her show for the full hour to provide “breakovers” for two gals who recently underwent breakups.

What’s great about it is splitting up from your man, your job, etc., is that a woman can take this opportunity to change her look, which will in turn change her outlook. It lets her feel ready to take on the world. It’s all very Waiting to Exhale, no? Here’s what I did for these two gals’ breakovers. Extensions were the focus for both of them.

On the first girl, I used my ted gibson clip-in extensions in Reese. To prep the hair before applying the extensions, I used my build it blowdry spray and beautiful hold hairspray to provide touchable hold. Lastly, I added kicky curls with a large-barrel curling iron.

On the second girl, I used a platinum seamless extension, which is an in-salon extension process that is a lot less time-consuming than Great Lengths, which we did for Kate Gosselin. It lasts three to four months. It’s really cool, it has an adhesive that attaches to your hair in a strip–so it lays flatter on your head than any other extensions. The price ranges from $950-$2,000. After applying her extensions, we used hairsheets styling, beautiful hold hairspray and sleekified the ‘do with my ted gibson flat iron. All Ted Gibson items are available here.

The end result? Both breakover superstars loved their respective new looks.

Introducing… La Brasiliana Keratin Treatment at Ted Gibson Salons!

la-brasiliana.jpg

Our newest hair treatment at Ted Gibson Salon is La Brasiliana. La Brasiliana is our Brazilian Keratin Treatment, now available at both our New York and DC locations. You MUST say it with an accent: La Brasiliana.

The treatment makes an immediate and major difference with manageability and shine. We offer it in two formulations, one with formaldehyde and one without. For women with coarser hair, the added formaldehyde helps coax their hair into compliance. The process takes about three hours and costs $450-800 depending on hair density and length.

The process is as follows: Hair is washed and blow-dried. Then, the treatment is brushed in, all throughout the length and thickness of hair. Lastly, the hair is flat ironed so that the sleekness is sealed in. That’s it! The client must remember, however: No ponytails, no washing for four days. But after that, it’s all about low-maintenance, super smooth hair that simply air-dries to chic perfection.

I’m On What Not To Wear!

Exciting news Gibson Girls! I recently signed on to be the new hair guru on TLC’s What Not To Wear. My very first episode will air this Friday, July 24. How great is that?! I’ve been absolutely dying to share this news with you, but I had to keep it a secret until now.

I actually auditioned for the show without knowing that I was doing so. I went in for an audition in April for a TLC show, but wasn’t told what it was I was trying out for. They loved my audition and asked me to come aboard. I was so excited — I’m a HUGE fan of the show.

Because of an advanced filming schedule, my first day was actually back in May. It was hectic and crazy but also super-inspiring at the same time. Recently I’ve been doing a lot of live TV work, so it was nice to go back to doing a taped show. When I do the live stuff, I feel like the pressure is major on. When it’s edited it makes it easier.

For me, the hardest part of the show was doing the color. I haven’t done color in almost 15 years! Fortunately I had Jason to help me formulate, which is one of the hardest parts of the process. Once he created the perfect color, I was able to dive into the application. I’m definitely going to have to get some more pointers from him though!

Doing a makeover is fun but a little challenging. Usually the person you are working with is actually really scared of changing their look, even though they say they’re ready for it. My first makeover candidate was Ariel, this gorgeous 26-year-old girl who plays a kissing wench in Renaissance festivals. Despite her brazen character, she felt like a bit of a wallflower and told me she wanted to be interesting.

I don’t want to give away too much of what we did, but let’s just say it was a major change and there were definitely some tears involved! It took her some time to get over the shock of the new look, but in the end she was totally loving it. We’re actually Facebook friends now and she sends me emails telling me how much she loves the new look!

Tune into TLC on Friday night to catch my debut and then let me know what you thought!

Encouragement goes a long way.

I encourage women every day to be on top of their image. Being on top of what’s in fashion really dictates how you should shop every season.

We are so influenced by celebrities and what they are wearing. Designers send them clothes all the time. Some of my favorite designers right now for fall are Lela Rose, Marc Bouwer, Rachel Roy, and Diane von Furstenberg

So much fun, fashion is. It always reflects hair and how it should be worn. Shorter style crops, bobs and shags are sooooo hot right now. Great examples are Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, and Katie Holmes.

Ask your girlfriends how they feel about you encouraging them to update their image. When you are in NYC you have to come experience 5 star service at my salon

And always remember Beauty Is Individual.
