Boardroom Beauty

woman_job_interview (400x600)

Creating a well-polished look with makeup while interviewing for a new job, asking for a raise or giving an important presentation is essential for success. It projects an image of total self-confidence and cool control that is incredibly appealing to others. Studies have shown that a women who applies her makeup correctly using flattering shades comes across as more competent and trustworthy than a women who doesn’t care at all about her appearance. Taking even five quick minutes to apply the right products in the right places can make a big difference in your career.

Is Your Hairstyle Keeping You From Scoring A Job?

In my book The 5 Minute Face, I explain how to create this fast and easy polished look in minutes. You can also download my Carmindy App for the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android and check out the Work/Day look for a slightly more put-together look. You can also find all the right shades that are perfect for you, custom-chosen by me.

Here are a few must-tries to climb the ladder of success. If you define your eyes with a pencil liner in a shade that is opposite from your iris color, they will stand out more and really pop. Pair this with a soft, neutral eye shadow and black mascara, and people will really be looking into your eyes and listening intently.

Man-Repelling Beauty Looks

Wearing a bold red or rose lip can command attention when speaking to a larger group. Just make sure to apply a product that’s sheer and not glossy and check that there is no residue on your teeth. My favorite trick is to stick your finger in your mouth and pull it out, eliminating excess lipstick so that never happens.

Keep the rest of your makeup simple so the face stays balanced in the boardroom. Leave high gloss and shimmer out of the office and choose makeup with a more subtle and sheer look so your natural beauty is highlighted but not overdone. Too much makeup can look like you are trying too hard and give off an impression of insecurity. Carmindizing the face is key: Apply a highlight under the brows, on the inner corners of the eyes and on top of cheekbones for the perfect luminosity.

Nails should always be perfectly polished and never ever chipped. When wearing a darker shade, keep the polish in your bag for quick touch-ups and always carry around an individually wrapped nail polish remover cloth and bottle of neutral nail color in case you need an emergency mani at lunch time.

Makeup Tricks For Mature Women

Iman (400x600)

Photo: © Jason Merritt/Getty Images

I was recently visiting with my family when my aunt Pam told me how frustrated she was with fashion and beauty magazines because every makeup tip was geared towards the young. She expressed her concerns about getting older and wanted to know my secrets to looking her best at a more mature age. Here are my top ten tips on skincare and makeup for the beautiful mature woman.

Skin Care At Every Age

1. Add more moisture to your total skin care regime. Switch from cleansing gels or bars to cleansing milks that are more hydrating. Use face creams that are richer and will add the extra nourishment your skin now needs instead of lotions. Make sure you apply a lip balm before going to bed each night to ensure a soft smile in the morning.

2. Stay away from dark, matte lipsticks. Our lips can become smaller as we age, so you will want to switch to sheer or creamy lipsticks in light, neutral shades that contain a slight pearlescent glow. Also, apply a light highlighter around the perimeter of the lips to enhance their natural lip shape.

3. Lipstick colors can bleed unless you seal the lips with a lip liner. Don’t use colored lip liners that match your lipstick like the old days because you’ll get a ring around the mouth when the hue wears off. Instead, you want to apply a neutral lip liner that matches your real lip color to keep lipstick from seeping into fine lines around the mouth.

4. Stay away from powder foundations that can look chalky on the skin and enhance any wrinkles or creepy texture. Opt for liquid foundations that contain natural botanicals and antioxidants that feed the skin. Apply Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Your Skin Makeup with a non-latex sponge, making sure to cover the eyelids and under the eyes. Then, apply only a very light dusting of translucent powder like MAC Blot Powder to set your makeup without it looking heavy.

5. Thin brows can age you, so try and fill them in naturally with a fine tipped eye brow pencil and choose a waterproof formula so it stays put all day. Use small feather-like strokes, and if you feel you overdid it, grab a synthetic fine-tipped concealer brush dipped into a little foundation to tone it down.

6. Avoid getting raccoon eyes during the day by applying waterproof eyeliners that have staying power along the upper lashes only. I like all the great colors from the Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes Collection.

7. Mascara can be a real mess when it smudges on lids that tend to get heavier as we age, so use tube technology formulas like Blinc Kiss Me Mascara to guarantee lashes that last. You don’t need makeup remover to take this formula off at night—just wash your face with warm water and cleanser, and the mascara easily slips off into little tubes.

8. Shimmery and glittery eye shadows can look strange on older skin, so use sheer matte or slightly opalescent colors across lids. A good test to see if you are on the right track is to apply the color to the wrist and then walk outside and look at the shade in the sunlight. If you see little squares of shimmer, it’s too much. If it just looks glowing and blends easily into your skin, it’s just right.

9. Those dreaded chin hairs happen to the best of us when time goes by and sometimes plucking isn’t enough, Make an appointment with your dermatologist and schedule a series of laser treatments to eliminate all those nasty little witchy hairs.

10. Add a pop of color to the face to create a refreshed and youthful look. Apply a cream blush in a floral shade just to the apples of your cheeks and blend in with your fingertips. My Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Sheerest Cream Blush in Beaming is the perfect universal color and never smears off.

What Your Makeup Bag Says About You

What you carry your makeup around in can say as much about you as what you put on your face. You would be amazed at the makeup bags I see when I do private consultations, and what nasty things women come in toting. I see ripped plastic Ziplocs, dirty canvas free giveaway clutches and sometimes-ugly grey tackle boxes from local hardware stores.

Now come on, ladies, there are so many chic and inexpensive options out there so you can look well organized and classy at the same time. I made a list of five cute makeup bags I found under $20, so there is no excuse for bad carting.

The Calypso for Target Medallion Weekender Bag is a boho chic bag with a bamboo handle that lets like you carry all your makeup booty in a tropical carryall.

EcoAliciaSilverstone

Eco Tools by Alicia Silverstone Cosmetics Bag is ecologically friendly recycled hemp, and its cool printed design is non-toxic.

Ulta’s Black & White Striped Valet mimics the look of its incredibly famous and expensive doppelganger by Henri Bendel and saves you about $40 bucks!

If you can never seem to find anything and need a clear makeup bag for easy visual product spotting, try the Modella bags from CVS. With a myriad of sizes and shapes you can always find what you are looking for.

Last is the Prevail Makeup Bags from Duane Reade, which is more of a case and can house all your beauty booty!

Fashion Week Survival Kit

woman_makeupbrushes (300x450)

As the fashionistas go full throttle this fashion week in NYC, many women’s whole beauty routine needs to be spot-on if they are ducking in and out of shows, parties and restaurants. There is a fashion week survival kit I swear by that has kept me going in the past through all the madness. This same survival kit applies to all women everywhere as the holidays approach to keep you looking fresh and on top of your game.

20 WTF!? Looks From Fashion Week

The first thing you will need is Visine Maximum Redness Relief. After long days and nights, tired eyes can make you look a bit haggard and with a quick drop in each eye, your whole face can light up. I never leave home without them!

You must carry EBoost packets with you to mix up in your water bottle. These little energy-boosting powder packets contain green tea, vitamins and all the great nutrients to keep your body energized and revitalized while running around.

The Fresh Satin Luster Palette is a must in your kit to “Carmindize” the face. Use it to highlight under the brows, on the inside corners of the eyes and on top of the cheekbones. This technique showcases the planes of your face and gives the appearance of illuminated and glowing skin.

Go Nude! (With Your Makeup)

Nars Lipstick in Heat Wave will make a bold statement, as this matte orangey red color looks uber chic no matter what you are wearing. Just make sure you pair it with my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Sheerest Cream Blush in Bloom on the apples of your cheeks and nothing on the eyes except very black mascara. The last thing you will need is a small bottle of Tylenol for when it does finally all creep on you!

Crazy Sexy Cool Eyelashes

A.Ferretti_lashes

Having long, flirty eye lashes is a beauty bonus we all wish we had. In this day and age, we can achieve whatever fabulous fringe we dream of. On the market, we can find lash curlers, thickeners, dies, growth serums, fakes, extensions, mascaras that plump, lengthen, thicken, extend, tube and mimic falsies. Whew, it’s exhausting and where do you even begin?

The Mascara Hall Of Fame

The first thing you need to consider is the look you are trying to achieve. For a natural look, stay away from falsies, extensions and thickening mascaras. Instead, opt for tinting your lashes at a salon if they are light and curling them with the Preo Corner Lash Curler (easiest one to use) if they are straight. Use a clear mascara for day like CoverGirl Professional Natural Lash Clear Mascara and then a light formula mascara for evening like Maybelline Lash Discovery.

If you want sexy, seductive lashes try adding on falsies from Andrea Mod Lash (found at the drugstore) and then sweeping on a thickening lengthening black mascara like Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara. This cool mascara blends together all the new wand technology we have seen into a very unique brush.

If you want a dramatic fringe, but you are super low maintenance, try getting a set of lash extensions and then you can skip having to apply anything to your lashes at all. If you have great lashes and mascara tends to smear—but you hate waterproof formulas—try the tube technology mascaras like Blinc Kiss Me Mascara that won’t run but is easy to wash off at night

If you feel like your lashes need a boost, use Revitalash Lash Serum to stimulate their growth, and then sweep on Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara for super lush lashes that will definitely get you noticed. I started using the Revitalash after losing a few of my own in a curling accident (never curl your lashes on a plane in bad turbulence), and the results were truly spectacular. A friend of mine had to actually stop using it for a while because her lashes became to be too long. What a great problem to have!

The Perfect Summer Brows

Eyebrows truly frame the eyes, and during the searing heat of summer when we tend to wear less makeup, the brows need to look gorgeous. A fuller but groomed brow makes the face appear youthful, so don’t over pluck them. Nothing will destroy your perfect summer look faster than disappearing eyebrows, so if your brows are a bit sparse, fill them in with a waterproof brow corrector that stays on even through sweating.

Positively_Beuatiful_Perfect_Brows.JPG (300x450)

Photo: © Luca Cannonieri

I have scoured the world of beauty to come up with the best summer brow products that will keep your furry friends looking flawless and in place no matter what the heat index is. If you have overplucked your brows and want them to grow back a bit faster, try the Peter Thomas Roth Brows To Die For. It infuses the brow area with rich nutrients to enhance the appearance of full healthy brows and stimulates growth, so sweep it on at night and when you wake up in the morning.

If your brows are in good shape and all you need is a hint of grooming and a way to keep them in place, go for Blinc’s Brow Mousse. This water-resistant groomer adds a light hint of color to fill in sparse areas and won’t fade, smear or run—even if you go swimming.

For a brow that needs a bit more help, I love the Makeup For Ever Waterproof Brow Correctors. Use a flat stiff angle brush to sweep on this filler to restore life to over plucked, weak or stunted brows. It won’t move even through a session in a steam room and continues to frame the face from morning to night. It takes a bit of practice to feather on the color naturally so remember a little goes a long way. For an easier way to make the brows look their best try the Makeup For Ever Waterproof Brow CorrectorsStila Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color. This liquid pen sweeps on a budge proof color that makes brows appear stronger and when paired with black mascara, a sweep of bronzer on the face and a coral lip and cheek you will be a melt proof beach babe!

Bejeweled And Bedazzled

I think I’m in love. Every once in a while a high-end luxury product comes around, and I just can’t stop myself from buying it. This collection called Belmacz Beauty is pure decadence. While scouring the internet recently, I found the brand on a hot new website called Cult Beauty, which is touting itself as the new Net-A-Porte of beauty.

Bejeweled_and_Bedazzled_Blitz.jpg (300x450)

This incredibly luxurious line of makeup was created by the famous Belmacz jewellery house designer Julia Muggenburg. She has fused together make up, precious metals and jewels in an original and different approach to beauty with the same attention to detail that she applies when crafting her beautiful jewelry line.

The Oyster Pearl Powder is a mix of finely crushed pearls and translucent powder that illuminates the skin in an ethereal dusting of lightness. It smells like rose and is really magical when dusted on the face or body.

Halo is a beauty balm containing rosehip oil, crushed pearls, 24 carat gold leaf and cocoa butter for skin that begs to be caressed. It’s the most glamorous moisturizer you can apply.

Blitz, a 24 carat gold leaf cream eye shadow, is a fun disco-like party in a jar that that blends on the skin to create gilded lids the Gods would be jealous of. Go easy and save it for fun summer night parties, as a little goes a long way.

Glow is a collection of gold-infused lip pots with skin-loving oils and minerals to create a soft, sumptuous pout. They are sheer and light and come in an array of five shades. If you feel like a splurge, these treasures are surly worth it!

Makeup Video Tutorials

These days, the hottest thing in makeup is the rising crop of young makeup novices creating YouTube video tutorials showcasing how to get their looks. The videos range from girls demonstrating how to recreate the makeup seen in the latest Lady Gaga video to imitating hot off the runway makeup styles. Many of these videos are also a platform for beauty lovers to rate and demo their favorite brands and share some tips and tricks they have learned along the way. I think it is a fabulous forum to share information, so I too jumped on the bandwagon.

I just dropped two videos on YouTube that showcase how to achieve my famous 5 Minute Face. I braved the video camera sans makeup and went step by step to show you how I cover up my own skin imperfections, like melasma, in my Basic Face video. In my 5 Minute Face video, I go through each tip on achieving my universal look.

All of the products I use are listed in the video, and to find shades that work with your unique skin coloring you can download the Carmindy App to customize the look just for you. I actually had such a fun time doing it that I created many more looks on myself like Vacation Glow, Date Night, The Smoky Eye, Wedding and more. Keep an eye out for those because they will be coming soon!

Going to cosmetics counter to try and learn how to do makeup and getting suckered into buying hundreds of dollars worth of products you don’t need will soon be a thing of the past. You can now literally go through beauty school in the comfort of your own home by watching these videos and becoming your own savvy beauty expert.

TV Beauty Buys

How many of you lovely ladies have ever bought makeup or skincare products on television? Have you ever gotten sucked into watching a mesmerizing expert polish, blush, swirl, blend or paint women into gorgeous creatures on QVC, The Shopping Channel, or HSN? I know I have, and now I’m on air doing it myself and let me tell you—it’s a real blast!

The great thing about buying products on one of these shopping channels is that you can actually watch the creator of the line or the beauty experts demonstrate the products on camera, and it’s usually in HD. This means that what you see is really what you get. It sure beats just seeing perfect models wearing the products on the pages of beauty and fashion magazines all retouched, airbrushed and unrealistic. This is a way to not only get to see exactly how it looks in real time but also learn the tips and tricks of application by watching the pros themselves.

I was recently on The Shopping Channel in Canada for my third time, and I find the experience to be a wonderful way to connect with fans and all the women that have real beauty questions and needs. Ladies can write in online or call into the show to ask questions that viewers at home might also have, give testimonials about the products and have a chance to be a part of the program.

When I’m selling my line of Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy I am able to explain how I created the line and the wonderful antioxidant ingredients are in each product. I also demonstrate my different techniques on how to apply looks like the perfect smoky eye or my famous “5 Minute Face.”

The brands on television these days are incredible—you can find products like Philosophy, Smashbox, Clinique, Benefit and even Stila. Plus, buying things on TV means never having to be bullied at cosmetic counters again! You can choose what you want in the privacy of your own home. The networks have great return policies if you are not happy, so you won’t be stuck with products that don’t work. So tune in and get gorgeous!

Recreate Kate Middleton’s Royal Wedding Makeup!

Kate_wedding.jpg

Photos: © Getty Images

The royal wedding was such an exciting thing to watch; especially when Kate Middleton walked down the aisle looking like the perfect blushing bride. Her makeup was absolutely amazing, and I was excited to see such a classic look that is perfect for spring. It was a look that most women can easily pull off if they know exactly what products to use and where to use them. Here is a step-by-step description to get the same look as the real princess bride.

First off, start with a liquid foundation that covers yet looks creamy and natural on the skin. Blend it on with a non-latex sponge and cover the eyelids as well so the shadow stays put. Use Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Your Skin Makeup and follow with my Fast Fix Concealer under the eyes to eliminate any darkness.

Next, dust powder onto the skin and eyelids to set the foundation and concealer and eliminate shine. Try MAC Blot Powder that absorbs oil without ever looking heavy. Fill in the eyebrows with Lorac’s Creamy Brow Pencil for a nice full frame to the eyes. Next, line the upper lash line with Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Forever Stay Eye Pencil in Chocolate Brown. This waterproof liner won’t smudge or budge and gives the look of a thicker-looking lash line.

Apply the lid shade from my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Instant Definition Eye Shadow Palette in Quartz across the lid from the lash line to the crease and follow with the contour shade applied lightly across the crease, at the outer corners and smudged under the lower lash line. Highlight the eyes by sweeping Nars Absynnia Eyeshadow under the eyebrows and on the inner corners of the eyes. Finish with Dior DiorShow Black Out Mascara in Black.

Swirl Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Natural Powder Blush in Ethereal on the apples of the cheeks and along the cheekbones back to the hairline. Line the outside perimeter of the lips with Guerlain Lip Liner in Cupidon then trace the natural lip line and fill the lips in fully with the Rose Satin Liner. Apply MAC Viva Glam V Lipstick to the lips to finish the whole look. Now it’s time to channel your inner Royal Highness and parade into spring!

Orange Crush

We all know that the quickest and easiest way to update your makeup wardrobe is to grab the hottest lip color of the moment. This spring and summer, lips are bold and beautiful. Toss in a new shade and play up your pucker! We have seen a lot of reds and corals in the past and these shades do work now, too, but a new twist on an old favorite this season is more about orange! Don’t be afraid to try this citrus shade—as long as you go sheer, there is definitely an orange for you. Orange looks great with a tan and, when paired with highlighted skin and black mascara, can be a great way to look fresh fast. I road tested a few products and found quite a few that I loved.

Fendi_orange_lips

One super bright but really sheer shade that is a universal is Lipstick Queen’s Glossy Pencil in Genre. This jumbo-sized crayon acts like a gloss and lipstick in one, is really easy to apply and comes with its own sharpener. I found it to be very moisturizing, and it was so fun to apply.

If it’s a stain you are looking for, I really liked Benefit’s Cha Cha Tint (in stores in June). This stain can be used on cheeks as well as lips, and not only did I dab it on myself, but also on my friend who has really olive skin. It looked just as good on her!

I applied my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Forever Stay Moisture Gloss in Creamsycle over top for a little kick of shine. Chantecaille’s Lip Chic in Geranium is a glossy sheer lipstick that is a little more subtle and contains lip plumping collagen and is paraben-free. When I wore this color, it felt so soothing on my lips and the color lasted all day. One little side note to wearing the orange lip, make sure your teeth are nice and white. Wearing orange lips can accentuate tarnished teeth so keep your smile gleaming.

Good For You Lashes

Wearing false lashes is a fun way to play up your lash line and create a lush, flirty fringe. You instantly feel more glamorous, and your eyes become the stars of the show. The only issue for most women is they can be tricky to apply, and the lash glue itself can sometimes contain ingredients that irritate the skin.

Lauren_Conrad_lashes (300x450)

Not anymore! A cool new eco-luxe beauty company called Georgie Beauty has developed Winks by Georgie. The beautiful false lashes come in three classic faux lash styles and have the first botanically-infused lash adhesive. To make the deal even sweeter, they are packaged in totally recycled and refillable compacts, so purchasing these babies are not only good for you but good for the planet, too. What I also love about these lashes is that they can be worn over and over again as the glue can be easily be rolled of the base of the lashes when you are finished for the night and then stored in the chic little compact they come in. So the lashes are a real money saver too…bonus!

Applying them is easy as they are very pliable, and you can bend and shape them to adjust to the natural curve of your upper lid. If they are a little long for your eye shape, simply snip off a few with a pair of cuticle scissors for the perfect fit. La Cherie are the perfect pair for a more natural daytime look and for the evening try the set called L’Avant-Gardiste. These are super sexy with a slightly thicker outer lash line for a lot more drama. La Starlette lashes will give you a full fringe for a glamorous classic look that pairs ideally with that iconic ruby red lip. So try them out and become a Wink addict like me!

Cruelty-Free Makeup Brushes

Okay ladies, so you know that having the right tools to apply your makeup is just as important as having the right products. Investing in a great set of makeup brushes is a must for any woman who is serious about looking absolutely flawless. Fingers and sponges can only go so far when applying your makeup before it’s time to pull out the big guns. I have found the most glamorous makeup brushes ever, and they also look so sleek and chic sitting on your bathroom counter.

The Advanced Beauty Tools Brush Collection is a collection of completely vegetarian and cruelty-free brushes that are made from Nufibre bristles. So these brushes are the perfect buy for not just the makeup lover but the animal lover as well. The handles are made from resin and then finished with a gorgeous chrome finish—and did I mention how wonderful they feel in the hand? Whipping out one of these babies to swirl on your blush or eye shadow will feel like your pampering yourself in total luxury. You can get the 10-piece set or go for the smaller 4-piece travel set that comes with a roll pouch. Visit AHALife to purchase these unique brushes. I’m totally obsessed!

What’s Hot For Fall: Fashion Week Wrap-Up

Well, another fine NYC fashion week has come and gone and many new makeup looks were seen on the runway for fall. Some were a hit and some were most definitely a miss, and there is a right and wrong way to interpret these trends. Pick a trend that works for you, don’t be a slave to fashion and go for the whole look.

DianeVonFurstenburg_redlip (300x450)

Photo: Before © Luca Cannionieri

If lips are your best feature, then by all means play with new seasonal shades like at Diane Von Furstenberg, where models pouts were painted up with red lipstick, a tried-and-true fall classic. Donna Karan showed pale pink lips, which is a fresh but unusual choice for fall. Karan’s was an example of a fashion show where you want to stick to only one trend. The fabulous pale pink lips were paired with a not-so-fabulous tarnished sepia color on the eyes. This shade rarely looks good on anyone but young models, so just give the lip color a go and skip the eye shadow. I loved the entire ruby lip look at Gucci—eyes and all, but to make it work in real life skip the gloss and keep the dark lips matte and moisturized and try using a hue a hint lighter.

If your eyes are your best asset, try framing them with a strong filled-in brow like at the Alexander Wang show. Don’t be so literal and instead softly fill them in with a pencil, tapering them outward for a little extension at the ends. Leave off the eyeshadow and sweep on a light coating of mascara. The silvery plummy smoky eyes at Vera Wang felt very fall to me and can be worn with ease on any skin tone. Just make sure to pair this look with a lighter lip and rock it only at night.

A flushed cream blush cheek is a great look for fall especially when paired with bold eyeliner like at the Marc Jacobs show. The only issue here is where that blush was placed. It was blended on lower then the cheeks (closer to the jaw), making the models look like they had bad cases rosacea! Love a flushed cheek but just place it on the apples where it belongs. Try my Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Sheerest Cream Blush in Beaming to get the right look.

Rose-Colored Spring Makeup

As winter wages on and we begin to yearn for those sweet days of spring, conjuring up visions of rosy pinks for cheeks, lips and nails might perk us up a bit and help us get in a better mood. The “IT” color for this coming spring season is pink, and the good news is that it works on everyone.

Rosy cheeks mimic the look of a youthful flush and will restore a fresh and rested look to the face. The best area for application is on the apples of the cheeks. Don’t use the traditional small blush brush; instead, try a big fluffy natural haired powder brush to apply it. This will allow for a softer, more flushed look. The best universal shade is my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Natural Powder Blush in Ethereal.

Try on blush in the Makeover Studio!

On lips, pink lip gloss or lipstick can make you feel instantly feminine and romantic, and there is always a perfect pink for everyone! If you are fair, think in terms of blue-based pinks like a ballerina pink. My Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Forever Stay Moisture Gloss in Pink Blush is ideal. If you are medium-skinned, think of warm rose pinks like Guerlain KissKiss Maxi Shine Lipstick in Candy Shine 624. Darker skin tones can kick it up with a more berry pink like Milani’s 3D Glitz & Glamour Gloss in Leading Lady for impact against a deeper skin tone.

Wearing pink hues on your nails always emits a girly fun feel, and this is where you can experiment with flashier shades of color. Go for bold punchy pinks like Butter London Nail Lacquer in Primrose Hill Picnic for a bigger statement and wear it like an accessory. Wearing this bright of a nail shade with the more subtle rose hues on the face makes for a balanced and very chic look. If you want to stick with a more mellow pink on the hands and feet, try the shade from Eyeko called Tea Rose. So, with a few weeks of winter still to go, we can dream in shades of pink and look forward to a floral future!

Be A Sexy Vixen On Date Night

Want to look totally sexy on date night? All you need to be a total vixen is the right makeup and a confident attitude.

Take an extra hour to get ready and really pamper yourself. Light some candles and run a bubble bath. When you get out of the shower, slather your body with a rich hydrating lotion and follow with a luminous shimmer. I like to use my Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Luminizing Face Primer and apply it not only to my face, but also to my chest, shoulders and arms for skin that is sparkling and super smooth.

Now it’s makeup time. Really go for it tonight and play with colors or looks that you would normally be too timid to try. My favorite vixen look is a modern smokey eye with lots of lashes and a light glossy lip.

Apply your foundation and concealer, and then “Carmindize” your face by highlighting under your brows on the inner corners of your eyes and on top of the cheekbones. I also suggest applying the highlighter around the perimeter of your lips for a full sexy pout. Dust a translucent powder on the forehead, eyelids, as well as around your nose area and chin.

Now fill in the eyebrows so they look well-groomed with a brow pencil and extend them ever so slightly. Line the upper lash line with a black pencil and follow with a shimmering blue steel hued eye shadow and sweep it across the lid and smudge it under the lower lash line. Apply a granite hue across the crease and finish off with two coats of black mascara on top and bottom lashes for a flirty fringe. The most perfect palette for this look is my Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Instant Definition Eyeshadow Palette in Storm. This shadow collection contains all three shades you need and they are universal colors for all women of all skin tones. There is a little plastic cover labeling which shade is highlight, lid and contour so it’s foolproof.

After the eyes are finished, blend a peachy-pink blush color onto the apples of the cheeks and finish off with a sexy, peachy-pink lip gloss—now you’e ready for date night! Go get him!

Top 5 Tasteless Makeup Trends

On a recent girls’ trip to Miami I was shocked to see girls frolicking on the beach in full sets of false eyelashes, orange tinted spray tans and body glitter from head to toe. Thanks to reality shows like Jersey Shore and The Bad Girls Club, the message we are sending to our young women is “the trashier the better,” and yes, ladies, it’s getting worse. As the hemlines get shorter and the makeup gets thicker, we are seeing a serious rise in insecurity, and honestly I have had enough!

Take back your power girls and know your self-worth. Makeup should be used to enhance your natural beauty and uniqueness; not used to paint on a cheesy overdone version of a Playmate on pixie sticks! Here are my top five tasteless makeup trends – and my version of how to they can be worn with much more class.

#1. Glitter anywhere on the face or body.
Glitter is the herpes of makeup. When you wear it, it spreads not only all over you but also on everyone around you, and it never seems to goes away. If you are starring in Ice Capades or are in your “tween” years, you might get away with it, but if not, move on to pearlescent shimmer or a light luminizing glow to highlight the skin instead.

#2. Deep savage orange spray tans.
The good news is most people have figured out that the tanning beds suck, but does that mean we now have to coat ourselves in a long-lasting disturbingly dark terracotta stain? Embrace your natural coloring and use self-tanners that only take you a few shades darker as if you had tanned naturally (and by the way, the darker the fake tan the older you look, so keep it light).

#3. Dark colored lip liner worn with light lipstick.
Still girls…really? That ship has sailed and ring around the mouth never looked good! Use a highlight pencil around the perimeter of the lips for a full pout and a nude flesh-colored pencil that matches your natural lip tone on the lip line to eliminate bleeding lip color.

#4. Over-plucked, over-arched eyebrows.
Now I understand if you have naturally thin brows, but there seems to be an epidemic in this country with our young ladies plucking themselves to high heaven. Again this can age you beyond your years, and they may not grow back. Keep brows groomed but healthy looking and fill them in with a little brow corrector if they are sparse.

#5. Spider lashes.
Hey, I’m all for a great mascara or a fun set of natural falsies on occasion but the double sets of false lashes and multiple coats of mascara just looks tacky. Your lashes are supposed to frame your beautiful eyes, and if you just goop them up with too much black tar you completely ruin the effect. If you want a lusher lash line, snip a natural set of false lashes in half and use only the half section at the outer corners – or try individuals placed towards the ends. Then, sweep on mascara on top and bottom lashes in one to two coats max for a beautiful, full flirty look.

Carmindy’s Cleanser Awards

Getting squeaky clean skin with no slimy residue can be a tricky, but I have taken my own cleanser challenge to bring to you my top cleanser picks in every category for truly clean healthy skin. And the awards go to…

The best inexpensive cleanser award goes to Cetaphil Daily Facial Skin Cleanser for normal to oily skin. This simple yet effective cleanser erases dirt and makeup in a flash, and for around $7.99, you can’t beat the price. It’s also recommended by most dermatologists and works on any type of skin even if you’re dry.

The best natural cleanser award goes to Alba Botanica Sea Mineral Cleansing Gel. Your skin will feel fresher than ever after a good wash with this cleanser, which is packed with a fabulous marine complex, aloe and antioxidants.

Rodial.jpg

The best makeup remover cleanser award goes to Rodial A-List Cleanser. This cleanser literally melts the most stubborn makeup off in a second without having to scrub yourself silly. It’s great to use on waterproof eyeliner and mascara and never irritates the skin.

The best multi-benefit cleanser award goes to the brand-new Kiehl’s Photo-Age Deep Action Exfoliating Cleanser. I’m currently obsessed with this perfect cleanser that uses sylic acid and scrubbing grains to eliminate dead skin cells and help promote cell turnover. It also contains different natural extracts that help to diminish the appearance of pigment discolorations (the bane of my existence) and vitamin C that neutralizes free radicals involved in the aging process.

The best cleansing wipe award goes to Ponds Original All Day Clean Wet Cleansing Towlette. No other wipe gently removes dirt, oil and makeup without water. It’s perfect if you are super lazy some days and can’t be bothered washing your face!

Sanitation Department

One thing I have learned looking through women’s makeup bags over the eight years I have been on What Not To Wear is we all have one thing in common. We are messy! None of us seem to keep our makeup free of germs and bacteria or our makeup bags and drawers clean. And when we try on makeup at department or drugstores just how sanitary are we?

Now there is a great solution with the fabulous new line called Beauty So Clean that is like Purell for your beauty routine. This cosmetic sanitizer is just what we need to help prevent the infections, allergic reactions and even acne that dirty makeup can cause. There is a fast-drying Conditioning Brush Cleaner that will keep the filth off your brushes each day, allowing for perfect color application and even blending.

Spray the Cosmetic Sanitizer Mist directly onto your compact face powders, blushes, bronzers and eye shadows for germ-free powder formulas in 10 seconds. The Cosmetic Sanitizer Wipes are perfect to throw into your bag to wipe off eyeliners and lipsticks before trying on new shades when you go makeup shopping. These are also great for for women that are prone to cold sores. You can still wear your lipstick or gloss without re-infecting yourself or spreading the infection over and over again. So now there is absolutely no excuse for being a dirty girl, keep it fresh and clean and you will stay pretty and pristine.
