How To Hide An Unsightly Cold Sore

For many of us the cold dry weather this time of year can trigger unsightly cold sores that can crop up around our mouths and noses. Don’t panic if one of these bad boys arrives at the wrong time right before a party or big night out. Concealing and healing can be done quickly and nobody needs to be the wiser. The first thing you should do if prone to this nasty business is get a hold of a prescription for Valtrex pills and cream. This way right when you feel the “tingle” you can start your meds to keep the cold sore from getting out of control and at night apply the cream for quicker healing time. If you can’t get to a doctor, try an over the counter cream like Abreva.

Next is to conceal it by applying foundation blended on with a non-latex sponge all over the face first avoiding the effective area. Take a new clean sponge and apply foundation on the area by stippling the foundation on the spot and then tossing the sponge in the trash so you don’t spread the cold sore. Using separate concealer can sometime highlight the badness so stick to using just foundation to hide it. Powder your face, again avoiding the affected area, then use a cotton ball to lightly dab on a slight amount of powder over the sore so the coverage will last. Don’t overpowder the area, as it can look cakey if you use too much.

If the sore is on your lips, when it is time to apply lip color simply swipe some lipstick or gloss to the back of your hand and then use a Q-tip to pick up the shade and apply it to the lips tossing the used Q-tip when your done. Redirect focus to your eyes by playing them up instead and keep lips neutral and by no means point it out to people because most won’t even notice.

Fluid Lines

Liquid liner makes a great statement on eyes, but not all women have an easy go of it. Most ladies spend more time cleaning up their liquid lining disasters just to go back to their easy to handle pencils. There is hope for all of us who do want to define our lash lines with precision and ease. If you are a lining pro stay with your favorite old school liquid liners but for those of us who need a little more help try the pen versions. They are so much easier to control and draw on perfect lines in a flash.

milani-cosmetics-eye-tech-liquid-liner.jpg

My new favorite one is the Milani Eye Tech Liquid Liner that comes in Black, Brown or Charcoal. The great $6.99 drugstore price is an added bonus because by far this pen is the best I have ever tried and trust me I have tried them all. The right way to apply it is to hold a mirror up to your eyes and peer down at it. Then start at the inner corners and place the pen at the roots of the lashes and begin sweeping along the upper lash line working your way outwards and wing it a bit out at the ends. If the wing does not look perfect use a small-tipped concealer brush to erase any smudges and clean up the wing.

Take a beat and let the liner dry before applying any mascara. Never use liquid liner on the lower lash line as this will look too harsh instead take an angle brush and dip it into a little powder shadow then smudge lightly.

Now you are the master of definition!

Fashion Week Party Madness

rimmel_lipstick.jpg

It’s that crazy time of year again in NYC when Fashion Week dominates and the parties go on all night long! I have been participating in the mayhem so I can bring to you lovely readers what I see in the trenches. What is hot? Well it’s all about early 80′s rock ‘n roll chic is which seems to be the only thing happening now. From bi-level haircuts to crazy lip colors and wild eyeliner people are really going for it Flock Of Seagulls style. Yeah, no kidding!

Now I’m not saying we all need to run out and get steps shorn into the back of our hair or swipe on fuchsia lipstick, hell I did that years ago and not real keen on revisiting it again, leave it to the young hipsters, but it is kind of fun to see people having a blast with their makeup and hair and not giving a damn. If you want to participate with what’s hot without looking like your trying too hard go for something a little more sophisticated and subtle.

Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired by Carmindy Natural Shine Lip Gloss

Pull your hair back and let a facial feature be the star of your show. Create luminous amazing skin by blending on a nice primer and liquid foundation and then pick only one feature to really play up. Eyes can look sleek and sexy if you choose a sparkling purple eye shadow like Mac Pigment in Violet and sweep it across the lid and slightly under the lash line. Leave lips muted with a nude lipstick or gloss like Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Forever Stay Moisture Gloss in Sparkling Nude. If lips are the main attraction try bold colors like Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Temptation or MAC Lipstick in Bubblegum but keep eyes very simple with a little sheer highlighter across the lids and rich black mascara. If you want to experiment with liquid eyeliner my new favorite is Milani Eye Tech Liquid Eyeliner in Black that is an easy to use liquid pen that glides on in a flash.

Just remember to have fun and create these looks at night then rock forth, my retro cuties!

On Set For Ciba Air Optix Aqua

air-optix-aqua-200px.jpg

I just finished filming an online commercial for the fab contact lens company CIBA for their great Air Optix Aqua lenses. There are a lot of makeup tips I provided for contact lens wearers to ensure great looking eyes that stay comfortable. Keep an eye out for the video on CIBA’s website in the coming month but for now here are five tips you lens wearers can use for beautiful and healthy eyes.

One of the first things you should know is when to throw things away. Liquid eyeliners and mascaras have a three-month shelf life and need to be discarded and replaced to ensure bacteria does not get into your eyes irritating them.

Second tip is to put in your contact lenses first before applying makeup so your vision is spot on and you can avoid tearing or smudging.

Third, make sure you blow off any excess shadow from your eye shadow brush so you don’t get particles into your eyes or opt for cream shadows instead to avoid the problem all together.

Fourth is to use regular mascara on the top lashes and waterproof mascara on the bottom lashes to keep from getting runny makeup if you tend to use eye drops throughout the day.

Highlighter

And last, if you want to keep eyes bright, apply a cream highlight shadow like Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Natural Highlighter Duo in Pink Luster across the entire lid from the lash line to under the brow bone then apply a navy blue eyeliner along the upper lash line. Curl the upper lashes and apply one coat of black mascara then add on an extra coat to the outer lashes for a little bit of a lift.

Performance Spa Treatments

We all love to be pampered but sometimes the idea of making more appointments, traveling through the snow to get there and then waiting in a room full of women is not so appealing. Also, it seems that all the treatments are starting to feel the same.

Now you can get incredible and different spa treatments in the comfort of your own home. Whether you are hosting a girl’s spa weekend with all your friends for a birthday or simply being indulgent yourself, you never need to leave the house to get a relaxing and beautiful experience. Many message therapists, facialists, waxers and spray tanners will come to you now with a small extra fee charged for lugging along their goods. It’s all about finding someone special and then passing on their information to your girls to feel like you are in a secret beauty club.

One such fantastic woman is in Miami and her name is Gita Devi so spread the word. She will come to your home or hotel room and does not only work in fabulous skincare but she turns it into an event. She creates an entire atmosphere to your exact liking whether it is a rock’n'roll all girl’s weekend or an individual peaceful Zen escape.

Her treatments are unique in that they are fully interactive and tailored especially towards you. Some of her famous facials include the Natural Fruit Facial, the Dark Chocolate Cocoon or the Reiki Energy Healing Session. She creates a full sensory experience for her clients including dressing up to the particular theme you desire, choosing a playlist of music that fits the mood, designing unique treatments that give you utter relaxation and transport you to the very place you are imagining. Whatever your idea she will bring you a show and you will never look or feel better.

Sleek In Silver Makeup At The Grammys

I love the watching the Grammys because people take riskier choices with their hair, makeup and clothes and this year silver makeup was all the rage! I adore playing with metallics on the eyes for fun occasions and silver is a universal shade that looks spectacular when applied right. Stars like Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez and Pink wore the color well and balanced the look perfectly with lighter lips.

make-up-for-ever-star-powder-silver.jpg

To get this look on your own, sweep a highlight eye shadow in a color like champagne under the brows and then sweep a loose silver eye shadow across the lid and on the inner corners. My favorite silver is by Make Up For Ever Star Powder in Silver. Next, sweep on a brown eyeshadow across the crease, at the outer corners of the lids and under the lower lash line. Brown compliments the silver so use the perfect browns found in the Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Instant Definition Eyeshadow Palette in Mountain. Line the upper lash line with black pencil to contrast against the silver and then follow with black mascara.

On the cheeks swirl on a tawny pink blush starting at the apples and sweeping back into the hairline. Line the lips with a nude lip pencil and fill the lips in with a great pinky beige gloss like Milani Glitzy Glamour Gloss in Indulging.

Play with this awesome look on a night out with the girls or a fun birthday party and you will look like your walking down your own red carpet.

The Nightly Beauty Ritual

Each and every night you need to care for your skin and treat it with love and affection. I don’t care if you’re tipsy, sick or just plain exhausted. There is no excuse to avoid the nightly beauty ritual of washing your face and treating it with the right products to ensure long-term beauty.

alba-sea-mineral-cleansing-gel.jpg

Here is a sample of what I do every night to keep my skin in tip-top shape. First thing I do is I wash my face with a good cleanser that will really remove all the makeup and grime from the day. I normally use Cetaphil for Normal to Oily Skin even though I have really dry skin because it really cuts through makeup and does not leave a filmy residue on my skin. I am also totally loving the Alba Botanica Sea Mineral Cleansing Gel. It leaves my skin feeling squeaky-clean and the all the healthy nutrients from the algae is awesome for the complexion. If you wear waterproof eyeliners or mascaras like I do sometimes, use a Q-tip dipped into a makeup remover to remove any excess makeup. The Rodial A-List Cleanser literally melts off my stubborn makeup but is super gentle and leaves it feeling soft.

After the cleansing I like to spritz my face with a little Rosewater for a fresh feeling. Stay away from any toners containing alcohol as they will just dry out your skin. Next I apply SkinMedica TNS Recovery Complex to boost my collagen production and fight aging and sun damage.

creme-de-la-mer.jpg

After that seeps in I tap on my favorite Crème De La Mer to hydrate my super parched skin. This is so rich it doubles as an eye cream so I apply it around my eyes as well and finish off with a moisturizing lip balm. Two of my current favorites are Fresh Sugar Lip Balm and Nude Lips Balm.

If I am not too tired I like to slather on Korres Guava Body Butter moisturizer before bed so I smell sweet and stay soft. Every morning when I wake up I feel that my skin is happy and healthy and the 8 hours of rejuvination was maximized.

Promise me that you will make a nightly beauty ritual your habit and look good forever!

Wake Up Makeup

Have you ever woken up really late and felt sluggish, tired and puffy in the morning? When you look into the bathroom mirror are you let down with dull looking skin and that not-so-spunky feeling? We have all been there honey. The clock is ticking and instead of feeling dreadful and rushed, just turn to yourself in that mirror say, “baby you’re hot” and follow these easy wake up your face steps that will bring you back to life fast and get you out the door quickly feeling fabulous!

First thing is to keep a gel eye mask in the freezer and pop that on first thing in the morning for a few minutes while you start your coffee or tea. I like the Body Benefits Soothing Gel Mask.

Sally Hansen Natural Beauty inspired by Carmindy Luminizing Face Primer

Next smooth on my Luminizing Face Primer from Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy. This will restore your radiance with light reflecting pigments and give your complexion the glow it needs to look revived. Smooth on foundation and swab on a little under eye concealer in a light pink shade to bounce light under the eyes, erasing the fatigue. My All Over Brightener Fast Fix Concealer is my best friend and I never leave the house without it even on a full eight hours of sleep.

Dust on just a hint of translucent powder and swirl on a pop of pink blush to the apples of the cheeks. Dandelion Blush by Benefit is the perfect perk-up powder to do the job.

Go easy on eye shadow and instead focus on creating a highlight and lift effect. Sweep on a shimmering highlight shadow across the entire lid from lash line to under the brow and curl and coat the upper lashes only with black mascara.

Now swipe on a pink lip gloss and run out the door looking wide awake and hot as can be!

The Too-Tan Awards

When are women going to realize that being overly tan does not give you a healthy sexy glow but rather makes you look like you’re a little dirty and can also make you look much older?

Case in point…Penelope Cruz, Toni Collette and Fergie at the Golden Globes.

Now, I am not one to ever dis celebrities. In fact I never talk about them at all, but I just want to say that these women are all incredible beauties. They just got sprayed a little too hard before walking the red carpet. A nice and light all-over glow is one thing, but these ladies were orange. It just looks weird and makes you appear years older than you are. They all seemed a bit aged next to their paler counterparts and it’s only because of the depth of their tan.

carmindy-sally-hansen-sun-glow-powder.jpg

The right way to get a little color is to choose a spray tan or self tanner that is only one shade deeper then your natural skin tone not ten times deeper. Going light will look a lot more natural and keep your skin appearing healthy not cooked. A natural powder bronzer applied to the face is also a good way to get a subtle glow. Use Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Sun Powder Bronzer in Spring if you’re fair to medium and Summer if you are darker. Simply sweep it at the temples, along the sides of the face and under the cheekbones and follow with a pop of bright blush at the apples.

Embrace your natural coloring and play it up softly with a bronze vibe and you will stay looking young fresh and beautiful.

Wearable Golden Globe Looks

Watching Sunday nights Golden Globes I was thrilled to see many of the actresses wearing makeup looks that can be easily interpreted for real life. From Kate Hudson‘s perfectly bronzed skin, Sandra Bullock‘s use of color and Monique’s lovely lashes, there were many looks that any woman could wear for a fabulous dinner or a great night out. If you are fair try Kate’s romantic makeup over bronzed skin.

Benefit Sheer Cream Blusher

Start off by applying foundation, concealer and powder then filling in the brows slightly. Next strategically sweep bronzer on the temples, along the sides of the face and under the cheekbones. Now swirl on rose pink blush along the cheekbones. Sweep an opal highlight shimmer across the entire lid from lash line to under the brow bone, on the inner corners of the eyes and on top of the cheekbones. Apply a purpley quartz shade across the crease and smudge it under the lower lash line. Line the upper lash line with a thin black pencil getting as close to the roots as possible and line the inside rim of the eyes in a deep plum eyeliner. Apply a few individual lashes at the outer corners of the eyes and then use black mascara on top and bottom lashes. Finish with a pinky nude lipgloss.

carmindy-amethyst-palette.jpg

For medium skinned ladies channel your inner Sandra Bullock by applying the usual face of foundation, concealer and powder then sweeping on rosy pink blush to just the apples of the cheeks. Apply champagne shimmer highlighter under the brow and sweep a lavender hue across the lid. Line eyes with a deep plum eyeliner and use a dark purple shadow in the crease. Apply a ½ set of false lashes at the outer corners of the eyes. Sweep on black mascara on top and the bottom and polish off the lips with a rosy pink lipstick and gloss.

For dark skinned women, check out Monique for her monochromatic beauty and fun flirty lashes. Begin with foundation, concealer and powder and sweep bronzer along the temples, sides of the face and under the cheekbones. Blend on raisin blush along the cheekbones and back into the hairline. Apply gold highlighter across the entire lid from lash line to crease and sweep a deep brown into the crease and at the outer corners of the eyes. Use 1 whole set of lashes and line the upper lash line with a thin line of liquid eyeliner and apply black mascara on the upper lash line only. Slick on a moisturizing mocha lipstick and your gorgeous and ready to win!

Backstage Bali Beauty

pic2.JPG

I’m currently in breathtaking Bali on vacation and fascinated by how incredibly gorgeous everything here is. The colors and the scenery look as if everything is in Technicolor and the people here are kind and lovely. Everything they do here is constructed to be beautiful and appeasing to the gods and therefore a stunning feast for your eyes as well.

I was so excited to see some local women perform the traditional Legong Balinese dance in Ubud the other evening. This is a classical dance in which three female dancers in colorful costumes act out an ancient story about an arrogant king desiring an unwilling princess. The makeup was so bright and dramatic I just had to know what went on in the dancers dressing room. I was lucky enough to spot a Balinese male actor going backstage to get ready and I asked if I could tag along and get a inside peak on how these beautiful people get painted up each night.

It was a real treat as a makeup artist to get an insider look on Balinese makeup tips and tricks. I watched them use old grease paints in small square tins to flawlessly draw on their character and create the extreme beauty for the stage. I must say they sure love a red lip and know how to slick one on with ease. They carefully wrapped one another in yards of hand-woven fabric while taking turns at the mirror touching up their makeup. They use pancake foundation to even out the skin and black greasy pencils to elongate their eyes. They highlight under the brow bone with white (a fave trick of mine by the way) and play with royal blue and pinky purple on the lids in layers.

They are very good at shading their faces to give a look of severity on stage and place pretty bindis on their foreheads and sides of the eyes. After they so graciously allowed me to photograph them I ran back out into the audience to watch these fascinating women dance. They truly are lovely and magic to watch and I feel lucky to have been privy to a backstage pass.

Best Of Australian Beauty

Hello everyone and happy new year! I’m on holiday and currently down under in gorgeous Sydney, Australia, where I’m discovering some totally cool beauty products. Some local beauty junkies have been bringing me around some hip spots and I’m so excited by the amazing products and designs I’m seeing.

miss-frou-frou.jpg

There is this fabulous nail polish line called Miss Frou Frou that boasts the fiercest shades ever. I was so taken with the Purple Rain color that I painted it on my nails on the spot. With everyone ooohing and aahhing, I helped them sell a bunch. The other seriously sexy shade is called Green Envy and it’s a very cool alternative to dark winter nails.Instead of the same old Vixen hue, it is a deep shimmering green that is very luxe-looking. Check out their insanely chic shade range at missfroufrou.com.au and see which one jumps out at you.

napoleon-perdis-cosmetics.jpg

I was then taken to the Napoleon Perdis makeup store to browse through this line of makeup. Started by an Australian makeup artist, these products are available in the U.S. and are good for the makeup maven who is not afraid to play with crazy shades and heavier textures.

Lucas_Papaw_Ointment-1.jpg

At a beachside health food store, I was told that all Aussies swear by their Papaw Ointment, which is supposed to be a cure-all for issues like dry skin, mosquito bites, even acne. I found a new version that’s petroleum-free and contains the famous Papaw Tree ferment as well as all kinds of natural Australian secret ingredients. After a day at Bondi Beach with too little sunscreen, I applied this ointment at night and it soothed the burn magically. This product by far has my vote as best Aussie buy when visiting.

Oops, I Forgot My…

Many of you may have just returned from your winter vacation or maybe you are on your way to relax before 2010 gets under way. No matter how diligently you pack your beauty basics for a trip, you may find you have forgotten something and can’t easily pick one up at your vacation destination.

A few forgotten products can be easily remedied in a pinch, so you will look your best by using what you did bring. If your body seems to be getting tanner even though you are applying your sunscreen every day and your foundation is starting to look too light just use bronzer to even the skin out. After applying your foundation and powder dust on your bronzer all over your face and a little down the neck to create a uniform tan.

If your cream blush didn’t make it into your bag, use your lipstick on the apples of your cheeks for a quick flush of color. If your lipstick did not make it in but your blush didm you can reverse the order and pink up your pout with a little cream blush. If you packed powder blush, you can use it on your lips and add a lip balm over top for moisture.

If eyeliner was left behind mascara can be used to define the lash line. Use an angle brush, Q-Tip or even a toothpick (dull the tip first) to pick up a little color from the mascara wand and then trace it along the upper lash line for a slight smudge.

If you forgot your highlighter use a lip balm under the brow, on the inner corners of the eyes and on top of the cheekbones to illuminate the skin with a clear glow.

If you did not bring your concealer try using a Q-Tip dipped in the cap or the nozzle of the foundation bottle to pick up the slightly thicker left-overs. Then lay this over a spot to get rid of any redness or blemish you may have.

See so if you get creative you will look beautiful on your get-away and not have to worry about what was left behind.

Party Lashes

This New Year’s Eve why not ring in the new year with fun flirty party lashes? I have been getting a ton of emails about what party looks women should try on this big night and a glamorous way to go is by having the most fabulous fringe you can find!

Falsies are a cheap and easy way to play and can be found in all kinds of lengths, thicknesses and styles. Some are very natural and look just like your own lashes but better and some are super bedazzled with rhinestones, jewels and glitter. The right way to apply a false lash is to hold up the strip along your lash line first and see if it is too long. If it is, simply snip off a little section so it will fit perfectly along your lash line.

Now apply a little glue to the back of your hand and drag the lash base through it. Blow on it a bit so it begins to get just slightly tacky then apply it along your upper lash line. Hold for a few beats and open up your eyes.

Now apply a little black mascara under the lashes so yours and the falsies blend together. If you find a full lash a bit hard to do you can snip the false lashes in half and apply one section at a time making it easier to handle. You can also use only one section at the ends of your lashes for a really natural look or try adding just a few individuals. For individual lashes use tweezers to drop the root of the lash into a little glue then place it along the lash line where you would like the lash to go. Remember to always use waterproof glue so if your eyes water you won’t have little spiders crawling down your cheeks after midnight.

For longer wearing amazing lashes run out and get custom matched lash extensions. This trend is all the rage and looks totally natural when trained professionals add length and thickness lash by lash. If you want to check out awesome before and after photos and read up on how it’s done, check out Ebenezereyelash.com. This is one of the best lash salons in New York. The site gives you full details of how to wear and care for your new extensions.

With these babies you can wear them for weeks after you pop the champagne and continue the party.

After Holiday Beauty Detox

Okay, we are all in the same boat at the moment: Bloated, tired, dehydrated and a little rough after all the holiday madness. Now is the time to detox our bodies so we feel better and our skin, hair and nails will look better as well. We can all get an early jumpstart on this so by New Years Eve we will look smashing!

The first thing to do is to start drinking tons of water. Flush out all the bad stuff by drinking at least 8 glasses of water during the day. Drink about 4 ounces of pure unsweetened cranberry juice from the health food store each day to clean out that liver. All this fluid will help re-hydrate you and clean your system.

Get back on your healthy eating regime and daily exercise right away so you can erase the evidence of the holiday feast fest. Now it’s supplement time. If you are like me the healthy diet went out the window this week and the amount of sugar and carbohydrates ingested is starting to show with dull puffy skin. Start each morning with a few good anti oxidant and pretty skin supporting vitamins like grape seed extract, omega 3′s, vitamin C and coenzyme Q10. These are skin’s little helpers and can get you on the fast track to radiance.

alba-sea-mineral-cleansing-gel.jpg

Now scrub away the sin in the shower with a good cleanser and a handful of white sugar. When I was home for the holidays I discovered a great cleanser in a local health food store by Alba called Sea Mineral Cleansing Gel. This kept my skin squeaky clean and did not leave a residue. The sugar will buff away any dry skin you may have leaving your face nice and smooth.

Deep condition your hair to keep it silky and shiny and diminish the dryness from the dryer and irons you may have over used for all of those holiday parties. After the shower, moisturizer your face, body, hands and feet with a rich cream to keep it supple. Make an appointment to get a mani/pedi asap so you will feel sparkly and new again.

Now by New Years Eve, you will feel amazing and be able to face 2010 beautifully!

Holy Cow

wild-cow-duo-cowshed.jpg

So at a recent spa event at the Soho House in New York City I fell in love with the fun line of skincare called Cowshed. These products are a great holiday gift that will definitely get a laugh when the wrapping comes off. A British company with a fantastic sense of humor has been selling soaps, oils, lotions, creams, candles and gels to fit all your moods. The packaging is absolutely gorgeous and so are all the scents and textures.

The collections include all the products you need to deal with the problems at hand like Grumpy Cow Uplifting Collection for the woman who needs to slow down and unwind with essential oils of grapefruit and mandarin red.

Knackered Cow Relaxing Collection containing oils of lavender and eucalyptus to restore harmony and relax your tired muscles.

Lazy Cow Soothing Collection with jasmine, chamomile and sandalwood to peacefully ease your senses. Moody Cow Balancing Collection to restore your inner harmony with rose geranium, linden blossom and frankincense that regulate emotions and hormones.

Last and most people’s favorite for lovers the Horny Cow Seductive Collection. Enjoy the aphrodisiac properties to heighten your excitement with patchouli and cinnamon that arouses desire.

You can mix and match because really a woman goes through each of these moods many times per week so it is a great excuse to purchase something from every collection.

Sexy Silver Makeup

bb_tow_121409.jpg

I love the metallics, but my total addiction this year is to the chrome and silver end of the metallic spectrum.

I have been painting my fingers and toes with M2M Platinum Plus nail polish, which turns your nails into instant accessories.

Besides the bling on my hands I am also kind of blown away by the Bobbi Brown Chrome Palette which hosts a bevy of shimmery silvery shades and the lip colors that pair best with them. You can play with all kinds of hues in this chrome family and look holiday ready for any party.

For a sheer and more natural version of steely grey shimmer try the Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Instant Defintion Eye Shadow Palette in Storm. The contour shade in this perfect palette is the most universal and wearable version of silver around. It has a hint of brown in it so it does not look too disco and you can be en point with the trend, but still feel comfortable.

When it comes to loose silver shimmer, I like to play with the NYX Loose Ultra Pearl Mania Eyeshadow in Silver. It’s like molten platinum on the eyes and really adds the extra glam. Try applying just a dot of it on the inner corners of the eyes and on the center of the eyelid. This is a very modern futuristic look and brings all the attention to your sexy stare.

For silver fringe try Volturi Twilight Crown Metallic Mascara in Silver Plated painted on lashes. This looks super cool with a slick of black liquid liner and just a hint of highlight on the lids.

Holiday time is when you can be a bit experimental, so try something fun and silvery.

Holiday Makeup Magic

With all of the holiday parties this season makeup is just as important as the LBD and a sexy pair of stilettos. Glam it up now while you have the chance and play with the magic of metallic. The eyes are the best feature to accentuate, and there are so many options to choose from.

If you like a sleek and chic look, use just a metallic eyeliner pencil in silver, bronze, gold or gunmetal. Simply apply a highlight eye shadow across the entire lid and then line the upper lids in a thick line of metallic adding a little upswept wing at the end of the eyes. Try Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes in Silver 8L, Bronze 10L, Gold 9L or Dark Grey 21L for a waterproof glitzy line that glides on with ease and stays in place. Pair this with Luna Twilight ‘Gleam’ Metallic Mascara in Panther for the full sparkling effect.

If you go with a smokey eye for your festive evening out try a fast magic metal trick by adding just a spot of pure silver or gold right on the center of the lid for a flash of fabulosity. Try L’Oreal Metallic Eyeshadow Duo in Platinum or Gilded.

For a more intense metallic eye, apply a highlight under the brow and on the inner corners of the eyes and then sweep a metallic eye shadow shade across the lid from the lash line to the crease and smudge it under the lower lashes. Try one of Urban Decay‘s many rich metallic eye shadow shades like Smog or Gunmetal that will always deliver the glamour. Line the upper lid with black liquid eyeliner and finish off with black mascara on top and bottom.

‘Tis the season to bewitch the people around you with a little makeup magic.

Pretty Stocking Stuffers

This holiday season try some quick gift ideas that will keep the girls in your inner circle looking lovely and feeling good in the dead of winter. Little beauty treats will always go over big, because everyone wants to look good in the frigid weather.

In the cold months we may feel a little pasty so give your girlfriends a little summertime glow with a fab self-tanner. I love the fun can from Urban Decay called Santa Tanita Body Bronzer. The can is dressed up like a prayer candle dedicated to the imaginary saint of everything bronze and beachy.

Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer

For dry parched lips give the gift of hydration and color with Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer. At $5, and with 13 gorgeous shades to choose from, you can buy three different shades and tie a pretty bow around them for a perfect gift.

Cream eye shadows work well on dry winter lids so give the universal shade of pink champagne shimmer like Nars Soft Touch Shadow Pencil in Goddess.

For the glossy posse, give them Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Natural Shine Lip Gloss. This sleek gloss is filled with good-for-you ingredients like sweet almond oil and cocoa butter so lips will be luscious. The Bronze Berry shade works on everyone.

If you really love someone go all the way and give them the ultimate beauty gift of Crème De La Mer, my personal favorite, hint hint mom. This rich luxurious cream will keep skin super moist and supple and you’ll score big points.

Happy holidays everyone, and best beauty wishes for all!
