Long Flight Beauty Fixes

freshpalette.jpeg (300x450)

For those of us taking advantage of airlines cheap flights right now, there is nothing worse than getting off a plane feeling puffy, dry and unattractive. Follow my easy tips to staying hydrated and fresh looking so you disembark looking gorgeous!

Rule number #1

No alcohol, and I mean it! I know some of us need it to take the edge off if you are a nervous flyer, but trust me, it’s not worth the bloat it creates in your body. You are better off drinking water and taking a Tylonol PM.

Rule #2

Drink tons of water, so try and get an aisle seat so you can get up and use the restroom as many time as you need to. You will feel much better at the end of the flight knowing you are hydrated and flushed.

Rule #3

No salty foods! Stay away from peanuts and pretzels and go for protein bars, veggies, hummus and fruit, instead. Make sure you throw them in your carry on.

Rule #4

Never get on the flight wearing makeup. The dry recycled air can really leave you parched, flaky and tired looking, so always board the flight with no makeup on and a nice layer of moisturizer. Bring a travel size moisturizer and a lip balm with you and reapply throughout the flight as needed to keep your skin supple. Rub some on your hands too, as they can get really dry, as well.

Rule #5

Pull out your makeup bag about 10 minutes before landing and apply my famous Carmindy 5 Minute Face. Blend on a liquid foundation, and then add a cream blush, like my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Sheerest Cream Blush, for a bit of added moisture to the skin. Use Fresh’s Satin Luster Palette to Carmindize and highlight the face. Apply it under the brows, on the inner corners of the eyes and on tops of the cheekbones. Apply a little pressed powder, line the upper lash line with dark brown eyeliner, apply black mascara on top lashes only, and finish with a slick of lip gloss. Now you look well rested and fresh as a daisy, whether you have flown cross-country or across the globe!

Winter Balm Blast

Picture 6.png (300x450)

Geez, the amount of dry cracked lips I’m seeing on my lovely ladies these days when I’m doing their makeup is in epic proportions. There is no reason, even in the dry cold climate, that your pout should be so parched. You need to be prepared by placing a balm in various places.

A balm should be stashed in your car, your nightstand, your gym bag, your day purse, your evening purse, your office desk, your bathroom, your winter coat pockets and your kitchen. This way there is no excuse for not having moisturized silky lips. If you do have dry lips, buff away the peeling skin while you are in the shower by grabbing a soft toothbrush and a pinch of white sugar, and scrub the lips subtly for a great exfoliation. When you get out of the shower immediately swipe on balm.

Here is a list of my top balms in every price point so if you want to save or splurge, you have choices:
1. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment
2. Burts Bees Beeswax Lip Balm
3. Rosebud Lip Salve
4. Keihl’s Lip Balm #1
5. Nude Nude Lips
6. Neutragena Lip Moisturizer
7. Maybelline Baby Lips
8. Free Range Chicken Poop Lip Balm (I’m serious it’s totally genius)
9. Koh Gen Do Chiffon Lip Balm
10. Chantecaille Lip Screen

My New Favorite Stocking Stuffers

narspencils.jpeg (300x450)

Okay ladies, it’s rare that I get so excited about a product that I buy it in every single shade and tell everyone I know about it. NARS has created the ultimate lip product, and I will be stuffing the stockings of every friend and female family member I know with the new NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil this holiday season!

This amazing jumbo crayon-style pencil delivers color, gloss and staying power that is undeniable. It contains Vitamin E for major moisture and has hydrating hyaluronic spheres that make lips appear fuller. It never dries out your lips, and I was able to test it on three occasions and never once had to reapply. Incredible.

My favorite shade so far is Mexican Rose, which is probably the most universal shade of red ever, and even when you try and take it off, it leaves your lips soft and slightly stained. The shade of New Lover is the perfect golden pink that mimics your lips’ natural hue, then kicks it up a notch. The hue of Hopi looks great with a smoky eye, and Club Mix is a sheer grape that looks so pretty with a flushed cheek and lots of black lashes. Baroque is a raspberry sorbet that’s looks sexy with a black winged cat eye and Happy Days will be perfect with a tan on holiday. Frivolous is a subtle glow for errand days and when you hit the gym. All the shades work for every mood you may have, as well as colors to create this season’s best looks.

What Makeup Should I Wear With A Red Dress?

kristin.jpg (300x450)

I get this question all the time, and the answer is NOT red lipstick and nail polish. I find that a much chicer and modern approach is to paint your pout and nails with a warm pink or shimmery nude color, and pair it with a retro lined eye. It’s dated to look so matchy matchy with the obvious red lip and nail combo.

To create a lovely lady in red moment, start by sweeping highlighter under the brow, on the inner corners of the eyes and on top of the cheekbones to “Carmindize” the face. I love using the highlight hues from the collections of NYC Sparkle Dust, Mac Pigments, Makeup Forever Star Powder or La Femme Sparkle Dust, and use the Stila #15 brush to apply it on the eyes and the Benefit Fantail brush for the tops of cheekbones.

Now apply a neutral soft bambi brown shadow on the lid, and sweep a black liquid liner along the upper lash line ending in a wing at the ends of the eyes. A heavy dose of black mascara on top and bottom lashes will finish off the eyes. Apply a swirl of peachy pink blush to the apples of the cheeks and blend back into the hairline. Now apply a creamy matte or slightly shimmering pinky nude lipstick or a warm pink lipstick. Skip the gloss, match the nails to the lip and then hit the town in red-hot style!

One-Step Makeup Tricks

red-lipstick-450a102909.jpg (300x450)

The holiday season is upon us, which means it’s time to find the balance between busy work days and nights out at parties and events. December calls for quick and easy ways to transform your simple daytime look into a festive nighttime look. Here are four fast one-step party tricks that get you ready to glam and go in one easy step:

1. For eyes that shimmer, try sweeping a quick hue of metallic across the lids from lash line to crease. The glimmering color will act like an accessory, giving your wink more power than you can imagine. I like Makeup Forever Metal Powders for real drama.

2. Cat it up with a sweep of liquid liner winged out at the ends of your eyes. Try the Hourglass Calligraphy pen for perfect precision.

3. For a major lash boost, apply a glamorous set of full fringy false lashes, and create a sexy stare for full-on flirting. Try fun ones with a kick, like the collection from Illamasqua. If you really want to push the party envelope, try the crazy cutout Peacock Eyelashes from Paperself.

4. To play up your lips, grab a bold beautiful lipstick, and apply a fresh coat. Try red, hot pink, orange or purple for a party pout that just won’t stop. I love Mac Girl About Town or Revlon Color Burst Lipstick in True Red.

To create holiday drama without overdoing it, just pick one of these four tips for a look that will blow holiday guests away.

Just Wing It

cateyes.jpg (300x450)

So many women ask me how to wing their eyeliner when creating a sultry cat eye. It may seem daunting, but it’s much easier than you think. I have a few tips and tools that will help you create the ultimate winged eyeliner look.

The first step is to create a nice base so the liner has something to adhere to. Cover the eyelid area with a small bit of foundation and a light dusting of powder for a texture that will help this look last. To create a softer look and have an easier time drawing on a wing, use a pencil, as it is easier to apply than liquid when it is sharpened to a fine point. Start by drawing along the upper lash line, and when you get to the outer corner of the eye, use your ring finger to gently pull the skin around your eye taut. Move the pencil slightly so the line goes up and out.

If you want a stronger look, trace over this stenciled pencil line with a liquid liner. If you make a mistake, simply grab a fine-tipped concealer brush and dip it into a little foundation or concealer and clean up around the wing to make it perfect. If you are pretty good with the liquid liner but always seem to ruin the wing, try my new favorite liner pens from HourGlass. One is called Calligraphy for drawing on a nice strong line along the upper lashes and the other is called Script, which is a very fine point you can use to draw the wing on with much more control. Apply small little connecting dashes up and out for more precision. Be patient and know that with these two liquid liner pens it will be so easy to get Catty!

The Perfect Holiday Palette

newpalette.jpg (300x450)

‘Tis the season for fun holiday makeup that sparkles and glows! I’m currently obsessed with the Chantecaille New Classic Palette. This quad of goodness contains three universal eye shadows and a blush that works perfectly on any woman’s skin tone, from the fairest of fairs to the deepest of darks.

The palette allows a quick and easy way to update your makeup from everyday to holiday in a flash. There is a glimmer in each hue that kicks the party up a notch and adds glamour to your overall look this time of year.

Silver – This shade looks incredible on both fair and darker skin when swept across the lids and paired with a black winged liquid liner. Add a few coats of black mascara, and you’re good to go!

Gold – For olive, mocha and darker skin tones, the golden shade is your best bet. You can pair this look with a red or wine matte lipstick for a beautiful balance.

Eggplant – This deep shimmering color can be used as a jewel-toned eyeliner. Use a flat angle brush to pick up the color, and then smudge it along the upper lash line in a soft stroke, flicking it at the ends into a little wing. You can also blend it across the lids by moving the brush up and over the crease and under lower lashes for a new twist on the smoky eye classic. If you use it for a smoky and sultry look, pair it with a nude glossy lip, so you don’t overpower the face.

Blush – The shade is sheer enough that you can simply sweep it lightly over your usual daily blush to intensify the cheeks and create a more radiant look.

So go on and celebrate the new holiday, and have fun playing with some new shades!

Beat The Holiday Bloat

cucumber_chick (400x600)

Turkey Day can wreak havoc on your face: Extra wine consumed at dinner, Loads of sugary snacks and Mom’s delicious stuffing. Once the plates are cleared, you may notice an all-over bloat and puffiness that isn’t so cute. There are a few tricks to get back to your perky, pretty self, even after slipping into a food coma.

I’m not one of those women who will tell you to fill up on salad and skip desert so you don’t overeat. If you’re healthy 90% of the time, then go for it! I mean, really, it’s the holidays, so lighten up on yourself and just get back on track after the day is over. Don’t turn one day of bad eating into a week of it; just start the next day with this great anti-puff regimen:

Holiday Survival Essentials

1. Apply a cold compress to your face first thing in the morning. Chances are you will be sporting major under-eye bags, so you can also use gel eye packs that are stored in the freezer to bring them down.

2. Start drinking room temperature water with lemon, and keep drinking all day long. Seriously! Re-hydrating your body will help with the bloat and erase signs of dryness. Throw in a coconut water, too, which is amazing for fighting dehydration.

3. You shouldn’t skip food the next day, but try to eat clean. Have an egg white omelette with lots of antioxidant-rich veggies and a cup of green tea. The veggies and tea will help your skin restore its normal glow.

4. Now it’s time to get some cosmetic help from a primer. I suggest my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Luminizing Face Primer for a glowing complexion and smooth texture.

5. Put a thin layer of foundation over the primer, and dot on a brightening concealer under the eyes, but do not apply it to raised areas of puffiness. Instead, trace the concealer on the recessed deepest part under the eyes.

6. Make eyes look bright by lining them with a blue pencil. You can also apply highlighter to the inner corners of the eyes and right under the brows to further “Carmindize” your look.

7. Finish your look by blending on a bronzer along the temples, the sides of the face and under the cheekbones. Sweep a pink blush on the apples of your cheeks to make your skin look more awake. A pink lipstick, balm or gloss will finalize the look, so you can look your best while getting back on track!

Alluring Fall Eye Makeup Trends

Blumarine_smoky_eye

Okay, so I’m totally smitten with a smudgy rich colored bedroom eye this fall. It looks so beautiful with clean, glowing skin and a neutral mouth. I imagine being cuddled up in a chunky cableknit sweater, sipping tea with my eyes defined in earthly hues.

Fall Makeup Trends To Wear Now

The DuWop Smoke Palettes in Black Gold, Navy Seal, Olive Branch and Plum Wine are the perfect palettes to create this gorgeous look. For a daytime look I like to line the upper lash line the roots with the creamy cake eyeliner close and then smudge the shimmering powder eyeliner right above the cream liner for more dense definition. I then smudge the shadow under the lower lash line, keeping the lids bare and finishing off with mascara.

For a sultry evening look, try following the above steps but blending the shadow across the lid and just over the crease as well. To really make eyes pop, choose the Navy Seal if your eyes are brown, the Black Gold if your eyes are blue, the Olive Branch if your eyes are hazel and the Plum Wine if your eyes are green. Then, apply a highlighter under the brow and on the inner corners of the eyes. Use a pale gold like La Femme Sparkle Dust in Champagne Gold #14. Pair this look with a nude peachy-pink lipstick like the Dolce & Gabbana Classic Cream Lipstick in Nude and Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Sheerest Cream Blush in Bloom on the cheeks.

The Acupuncture Face Lift

Sleeping_Chick (400x600)

So I was getting my very first session of acupuncture the other day in New York City for a herniated disk in my neck when Master Kim, my Korean acupuncturist, began inserting needles all over my face telling me he was giving me an acupuncture face lift. Before I could even resist, I had these little pins sticking out of my temples, the sides of my nose nose, jaw, cheeks and forehead and was feeling a bit like a human pincushion.

Celebrity Skin Care Secrets

He explained to me that the treatment works by allowing the flow of the Qi (or energy) to the face, which would promote collagen production, increased blood flow and would also eliminate wrinkles and puffiness. He told me it was very good for women over 40 as we need a little more chi flowing to our faces.

As I listened to him, it began to make total sense. I began to relax, imagining my face all Qi’d up and radiant as can be. He placed some of the pins where I tend to furrow and frown, and I could feel those muscles relax instantly.

After the treatment I left his office, and for the rest of the day I received many compliments on my skin. One friend even commented on how happy I appeared to be. So now I’m sold on stickin those buggers in my face whenever I go in to see Master Kim. For any woman considering shooting their faces up with a different kind of needle, give this a go first and see if you get your Chi!

This Halloween, try using pumpkins for more than just a scary symbol of fright night fun or decorating your house for all the fall festivities: Think of them as a great way to boost your beauty. Pumpkins contain all kinds of fantastic properties to help create gorgeous skin: AHA fruit acids, which help slough off all that dead skin covering up your glow, as well as vitamin A, which helps battle fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating cell turnover.

10 Mind-Blowing Halloween Beauty Products

Create your own at-home pumpkin facial mask by mixing together two teaspoons of cooked pumpkin, ½ teaspoon of honey and ¼ teaspoon of milk. Then, apply to the face and leave on for fifteen minutes. When you rinse it off, your skin will feel soft and smooth, and the scent is lovely.

Top 10 Hollywood Halloween Costumes

If you’d rather someone else do the mixin’ here are a few of my favorite pumpkin products for wonderful skin. The Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Body Intensive Treatment perfect to eliminate the dry flaky skin you may have as the weather gets colder. Desert Essence Pumpkin Hand Repair Cream is super soothing for rough cracked hands and dry cuticles that suffer from a loss of moisture this time of year. Savor by Paris Pumpkin Body Wash leaves you fresh, free of residue and will have you smelling yummy when you step out of the shower.

Hues of orange goodness can also be found in makeup, and although only darker skin can pull off the color in eye shadow form, try NYX Round Case Lipstick Lip Cream in Pumpkin Pie for pretty lips or Make Up Forever Blush in Pumpkin to create a little warm peachy orange flush.

Boardroom Beauty

woman_job_interview (400x600)

Creating a well-polished look with makeup while interviewing for a new job, asking for a raise or giving an important presentation is essential for success. It projects an image of total self-confidence and cool control that is incredibly appealing to others. Studies have shown that a women who applies her makeup correctly using flattering shades comes across as more competent and trustworthy than a women who doesn’t care at all about her appearance. Taking even five quick minutes to apply the right products in the right places can make a big difference in your career.

Is Your Hairstyle Keeping You From Scoring A Job?

In my book The 5 Minute Face, I explain how to create this fast and easy polished look in minutes. You can also download my Carmindy App for the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android and check out the Work/Day look for a slightly more put-together look. You can also find all the right shades that are perfect for you, custom-chosen by me.

Here are a few must-tries to climb the ladder of success. If you define your eyes with a pencil liner in a shade that is opposite from your iris color, they will stand out more and really pop. Pair this with a soft, neutral eye shadow and black mascara, and people will really be looking into your eyes and listening intently.

Man-Repelling Beauty Looks

Wearing a bold red or rose lip can command attention when speaking to a larger group. Just make sure to apply a product that’s sheer and not glossy and check that there is no residue on your teeth. My favorite trick is to stick your finger in your mouth and pull it out, eliminating excess lipstick so that never happens.

Keep the rest of your makeup simple so the face stays balanced in the boardroom. Leave high gloss and shimmer out of the office and choose makeup with a more subtle and sheer look so your natural beauty is highlighted but not overdone. Too much makeup can look like you are trying too hard and give off an impression of insecurity. Carmindizing the face is key: Apply a highlight under the brows, on the inner corners of the eyes and on top of cheekbones for the perfect luminosity.

Nails should always be perfectly polished and never ever chipped. When wearing a darker shade, keep the polish in your bag for quick touch-ups and always carry around an individually wrapped nail polish remover cloth and bottle of neutral nail color in case you need an emergency mani at lunch time.

Body Beautiful

Now that fall is in full swing, we need to be sure the remnants of leftover self tanner and dry skin from the summer are long gone. Give your body a full scrubdown so you can be soft and smooth this season and ready for all the sexy holiday cocktail dresses you may be wearing.

10 Super-Sexy Fall Lip Looks

I love Hydrea London’s Beaming Body Box—it has everything you need to polish your skin to perfection. This kit contains carbonized bamboo exfoliating gloves, a bath and message body brush, a sustainable sea sponge and a natural pumice foot file. Hydrea London is a very green company, and you can literally create your own natural spa in your shower. The kit comes in an eco-friendly box featuring recycled paper and eco-satin ribbon so it looks pretty on a shelf and makes for an amazing gift as well. I like to lather up with my favorite soap and a handful of white table sugar and then use each tool in the kit to scrub away the past and rejuvenate my skin.

After you dry off, apply a custom body lotion that you can make yourself. I just made a new one last week with a big bottle of Keihls Crème De Corps Body Lotion to which I added a few drops of my favorite Manoi Oil I bought on a trip to Tahiti and a squeeze of liquid shimmer. When you smooth it on, your skin looks radiant, and since it is softer, you smell amazing and have a beautiful glow. Now your body is fall fabulous!

Makeup Tricks For Mature Women

Iman (400x600)

Photo: © Jason Merritt/Getty Images

I was recently visiting with my family when my aunt Pam told me how frustrated she was with fashion and beauty magazines because every makeup tip was geared towards the young. She expressed her concerns about getting older and wanted to know my secrets to looking her best at a more mature age. Here are my top ten tips on skincare and makeup for the beautiful mature woman.

Skin Care At Every Age

1. Add more moisture to your total skin care regime. Switch from cleansing gels or bars to cleansing milks that are more hydrating. Use face creams that are richer and will add the extra nourishment your skin now needs instead of lotions. Make sure you apply a lip balm before going to bed each night to ensure a soft smile in the morning.

2. Stay away from dark, matte lipsticks. Our lips can become smaller as we age, so you will want to switch to sheer or creamy lipsticks in light, neutral shades that contain a slight pearlescent glow. Also, apply a light highlighter around the perimeter of the lips to enhance their natural lip shape.

3. Lipstick colors can bleed unless you seal the lips with a lip liner. Don’t use colored lip liners that match your lipstick like the old days because you’ll get a ring around the mouth when the hue wears off. Instead, you want to apply a neutral lip liner that matches your real lip color to keep lipstick from seeping into fine lines around the mouth.

4. Stay away from powder foundations that can look chalky on the skin and enhance any wrinkles or creepy texture. Opt for liquid foundations that contain natural botanicals and antioxidants that feed the skin. Apply Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Your Skin Makeup with a non-latex sponge, making sure to cover the eyelids and under the eyes. Then, apply only a very light dusting of translucent powder like MAC Blot Powder to set your makeup without it looking heavy.

5. Thin brows can age you, so try and fill them in naturally with a fine tipped eye brow pencil and choose a waterproof formula so it stays put all day. Use small feather-like strokes, and if you feel you overdid it, grab a synthetic fine-tipped concealer brush dipped into a little foundation to tone it down.

6. Avoid getting raccoon eyes during the day by applying waterproof eyeliners that have staying power along the upper lashes only. I like all the great colors from the Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes Collection.

7. Mascara can be a real mess when it smudges on lids that tend to get heavier as we age, so use tube technology formulas like Blinc Kiss Me Mascara to guarantee lashes that last. You don’t need makeup remover to take this formula off at night—just wash your face with warm water and cleanser, and the mascara easily slips off into little tubes.

8. Shimmery and glittery eye shadows can look strange on older skin, so use sheer matte or slightly opalescent colors across lids. A good test to see if you are on the right track is to apply the color to the wrist and then walk outside and look at the shade in the sunlight. If you see little squares of shimmer, it’s too much. If it just looks glowing and blends easily into your skin, it’s just right.

9. Those dreaded chin hairs happen to the best of us when time goes by and sometimes plucking isn’t enough, Make an appointment with your dermatologist and schedule a series of laser treatments to eliminate all those nasty little witchy hairs.

10. Add a pop of color to the face to create a refreshed and youthful look. Apply a cream blush in a floral shade just to the apples of your cheeks and blend in with your fingertips. My Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Sheerest Cream Blush in Beaming is the perfect universal color and never smears off.

Fab Fall Line-Up

Fall_eyeliner

Photo: © Luca Cannonieri

Lined eyes that define your gaze and get you noticed are a hot new look this fall. There are a few formulas and styles I like to use, and I can give you some helpful tips on how to apply them with ease.

Fall 2011 Makeup Trends

The first chic fall look is the bold liquid line swept across the upper lash line ending in a slight wing. The most perfect way to wear it this fall is in a shade of deep chocolate brown paired with a granite eyeshadow. If you have trouble getting the perfect lines, try using pen-style liquid liner like the Smashbox Limitless Liquid Liner Pen, which is easier to apply, and start with small little dashes working from the inside corner towards the outer corner. If the wing doesn’t look perfect, use a small-tipped concealer brush dipped into a little of my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Fast Fix Concealer in All Over Brightener to clean up the edges of the wing for a perfect ending with a bright, eye-opening effect.

The other lined eye for fall is a colorful gel liner like the Tarte EmphasEyes Waterproof Clay Shadow smudged along the upper and lower lash line with an angle brush. This is probably the easiest way to create definition because the angle brush allows for really easy application.

Use shades of deep eggplant, bronze or forest green and pair it with soft shimmering brown shadows. Another way to line up your eyes is by using my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Forever Stay Eye Pencil in Deep Black and apply it along the upper lash line. Then, swipe the Laura Mercier Smudge Brush back and forth along the upper lashes. Use whatever’s left on the brush to apply it under the lower lashes for a soft shade of definition.

Next, apply the liner on the inner rims and pair this with only a shimmering highlight across the lids from lashes to under the brows. All three of these cool lined looks should be worn at night for maximum drama. Keep the rest of your makeup simple to have people lining up to check you out!

10 Acne Treatments That Really Work

Acne is caused by the excess production of sebum, so keeping your pH balance is crucial to overall gorgeous looking skin. Eat lots of foods rich in Vitamin A and Zinc—think anything orange like apricots, carrots, mangoes and pumpkins. Chow down on Vitamin B, which is found in all your leafy greens including kale, spinach and even seaweed. Some research has suggested that acne can be related to a lack of Vitamin E, so try and eat mushrooms, nuts and soybean oils to keep up your levels.

5 Foolproof Tips To Hide A Pimple

A great way to get all you need in one sitting is to create a superfood acne fighting salad with a mixture of leafy greens topped with shredded carrots, sliced almonds, mushrooms and a great healthy oil dressing. Top it off with some grilled salmon, and your Omega 3′s are covered to guarantee seriously superb skin.

You should stay away from high fat foods, dairy products and, of course, too much sugar. Geez, stick to this diet and your skin will not only look beautiful, but you will loose a few pounds too!

Great American Beauty Brands

retro_beauty (400x600)

Some beauty brands just say “American,” and as time goes by they are as tried-and-true today as they have ever been. The great thing is now many of these companies are coming out with incredible new twists on some old favorites. I’ve been trying a few that I’m absolutely in love with.

Editors’ Fall Favorites

Let’s start with my new fave: Johnson’s Baby Oil Gel with Shea & Cocoa Butter. Not as messy as the original Baby Oil, the new gel formula blends on with ease, and feels slightly exotic with the new cocoa butter scent. I love the sheen it gives to the skin, too, so I keep this in my shower and apply it before I towel off.

When you think of Ponds, you remember your grandma or mom smelling fresh and clean, and it brings back happy memories. Now, Ponds has an amazing line of Cleansing Towelettes for the quickest way to cleanse the skin, take your makeup off at night and buff and polish your face for a healthy glowing complexion.

Almost everyone thinks of the brand Visine when their eyes are red, and now with the new Maximum Redness Relief Formula, irritated eyes will be soothed in seconds and clear as can be. Women don’t realize what a beauty booster having clear eyes can be—it really wakes up the face. I always carry Visine in my purse when I’m on the go.

Ever since you were a kid your dentist has been telling you to brush your teeth and I’ve always received Crest Toothpaste in little sample sizes before I left his office. Now with the whole incredible line of Crest 3-D White Teeth Whitening Systems you can brush, rinse and strip away all yellowing of your teeth to create a whiter, brighter smile that will keep you looking gorgeous. Having whiter teeth is one of the main beauty secrets I tell women over the age of 40; it can take years off your look.

Sally Hansen nail polish has been around for 50 years. When they came to me almost four years ago to create a line of makeup with them, I knew their high quality and affordable price point was just what I was looking for. We created the Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy makeup collection with top-of-the-line formulas that are all paraben-free and filled with anti-oxidants and natural botanicals. It’s the only makeup I use on myself, and every woman I make over on What Not To Wear, so you can tune in every Tuesday night at 9p.m. to see real results in HD. So buy American and feel beautiful doing it!

Relief From Tired Eyes

Many women today have crazy busy schedules. Between kids, work and stress, the lack of sleep can really wreck havoc on our beauty. Red, puffy eyes can make you feel awful in the morning, but there are a few makeup magic tricks to hide the issue and fake the funk!

The first thing you want to do upon rising is apply a cool compress on the eyes for about one minute. I do this after putting on the kettle for tea, and by the time it takes to boil the puffiness in well on its way. Next, put a few drops of Visine in the eyes to clear them up and get rid of the redness. This step is the fastest way to eliminate the look of exhaustion.

After applying your face makeup, and it’s time to use eye shadow, the trick is to go for a deeper hue to recede any puffiness. I like to apply it on the sides of the eye lids from the lash line to the crease and then also smudge it into under the lower lash line. A pop of a light and shimmering highlight shade will accentuate and bring out an area so I like to apply a dot in the center of the lid to make it sparkle before lightly lining the upper lash line with a deep pencil.

Now apply mascara on the upper lashes, concentrating it more on the center lashes to open the eyes up. Lastly apply blue eyeliner like Makeup Forever’s Aqua Eyes Liner in Majorelle Blue 15L on the inside rim of the eyes—it will make the whites of the eyes appear brighter, and the eyes will look well rested. Nobody will ever know you hadn’t had a full eight hours of rest!

Gettin’ Cheeky

During Fashion Week, I couldn’t have been more excited to see many of the makeup looks for next spring were all about cheeks. The cheeks are the one area of the face that women rarely think about because they are usually more concerned with eyes, lips and skin. Playing up your cheeks with a sweet flush instantly brings youth and playfulness to the face and is a quick way to wake up your complexion in the morning.

Fall Makeup Preview

At the DKNY show, pinky-brown cheeks were paired with glowing skin and light rose lips. The easiest way to achieve this look is to start with my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Luminizing Face Primer, then apply a light layer of liquid foundation like my Your Skin Makeup. Dab on cream highlighter to “Carmindize” the face under brows, on the inner corners of eyes and on top of the cheekbones. Use a satiny pearl shade like RMS Living Luminizer to rim the outer lips and apply down the bridge of the nose to create the ultimate glow to the skin. Now, swirl my Sheerest Cream Blush in Beaming and on the apples of the cheeks and back to the hairline using the MAC 187 Duo Fibre Brush for a perfect blend of color.

At Micheal Kors, a bronze shade of powder blush was applied along the cheekbones and on the temples for a slightly contoured look. The best way to recreate this look is to apply foundation and powder first, then sweep on a bronzer like my SunGlow Powder as blush. Starting at the temples, blend the bronzer along the sides of the face and under the cheekbones with a last little swirl on the apples. Follow with black mascara and a light lip gloss like L’Oreal Colour Juice Sheer Lip Gloss in Cream Caramel.

The Best Beauty Looks From Fashion Week

Models at the Preen show walked the runway with super peachy cheeks and the same hue on the lips. Again, the eyes were kept very simple so it was all about the romantic flush. Apply a cream or powder blush just to the apples of your cheeks. Then, create a strong brow by filling them in with a brow pencil that has staying power, like Physicians Formula Brow Definer Automatic Brow Pencil, to create a perfect modern minimalist balance.
