Zodiac Beauty

smiling_woman (400x600)

Your sun sign can say a lot about your unique personality and can also help guide you to find your signature look in makeup. I have matched up each astrological sign in the zodiac to a beauty look that best compliments the main personality traits of that particular sign.

If you are an Aries like me, you are active, courageous, independent, leading, pioneering and assertive. A great look for you is to be daring and swipe on a bold red lip color and then walk into a room filled with confidence.

Taurus women are determined, patient, reliable, persistent, warm-hearted and security loving. A strong but well-groomed brow will frame your steady soft eyes and give structure to your face.

If you are a Gemini, you are witty, communicative, eloquent, youthful, versatile and adaptable and can easily change up your makeup routine every season with the new trends. Try playing up your eyes with fun and different eyeshadow colors like blue, green or purple by sweeping the shade across the lid and smudge it under the lower lash line.

Cancer ladies are emotional, loving, intuitive, imaginative, protective and sympathetic and look sweet and romantic when wearing a soft pink blush swirled on the apples of the cheeks in a full flush. Keep the rest of the face almost bare to accentuate that cherub look.

A Leo woman can be dramatic, ambitious, creative, loyal, enthusiastic, and confident, so get all the attention you secretively crave by applying flirty false lashes and lots of black mascara.

Virgos tend to be analytical, helpful, reliable, observant and precise perfectionists that love to create an exact look, so I recommend going for that perfect cat eye using liquid liner. Virgos love to be detail-oriented, so it may help to check out YouTube how-to videos to learn how to get the exact wing at the end of your eyes.

A Libra woman is diplomatic, hospitable, fair, balanced, idealistic and sociable, so go for perfectly even skin with a slight glow. Liquid foundation, a brightening concealer, light powder and Carmindizing the face will keep your skin looking luminously Zen.

A hot Scorpio woman is determined, forceful, magnetic, exciting and passionate and works a room rocking a smoky eye every time. Lot’s of black liner and smoldering shadow brings out her inner seductress.

Sagittarius chicks are adventurous, freedom loving, jovial, straightforward, philosophical and optimistic. Don’t try and fence this girl in! Let her sweep sunny bronzer on her face to show off the amazing adventure she has recently been on.

A true Capricorn is conventional, realistic, pragmatic, reserved, practical and prudent so a real 5-Minute Face is all it takes for this lady to shine. Think simple makeup and a little tinted lip balm and she’s good to go.

Aquarius people are inventive, accepting, original, sociable, personable and understanding. A real Aqua girl can wear different makeup looks as a fearless way of self expression, and she really doesn’t care what people think. So go for that electric blue eyeliner or hot pink lips, but remember: Just one feature at a time.

Those lovely Pisces girls tend to be romantic, trustworthy, dreamy, understanding, sensitive and compassionate, so wearing soft shimmering shades of brown shadow paired with peachy pink cheeks and lips plays into this girl’s true nature.

Fashion Week Survival Kit

woman_makeupbrushes (300x450)

As the fashionistas go full throttle this fashion week in NYC, many women’s whole beauty routine needs to be spot-on if they are ducking in and out of shows, parties and restaurants. There is a fashion week survival kit I swear by that has kept me going in the past through all the madness. This same survival kit applies to all women everywhere as the holidays approach to keep you looking fresh and on top of your game.

20 WTF!? Looks From Fashion Week

The first thing you will need is Visine Maximum Redness Relief. After long days and nights, tired eyes can make you look a bit haggard and with a quick drop in each eye, your whole face can light up. I never leave home without them!

You must carry EBoost packets with you to mix up in your water bottle. These little energy-boosting powder packets contain green tea, vitamins and all the great nutrients to keep your body energized and revitalized while running around.

The Fresh Satin Luster Palette is a must in your kit to “Carmindize” the face. Use it to highlight under the brows, on the inside corners of the eyes and on top of the cheekbones. This technique showcases the planes of your face and gives the appearance of illuminated and glowing skin.

Go Nude! (With Your Makeup)

Nars Lipstick in Heat Wave will make a bold statement, as this matte orangey red color looks uber chic no matter what you are wearing. Just make sure you pair it with my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Sheerest Cream Blush in Bloom on the apples of your cheeks and nothing on the eyes except very black mascara. The last thing you will need is a small bottle of Tylenol for when it does finally all creep on you!

Transitioning Into Fall

None of us want to admit that summer is over, but the good news is that now we can look forward to cashmere, sexy boots and new fall makeup shades. This fall , eyeshadow colors come in an array of slightly shimmering metallics in pewter and burnished gold, sheer jewel tones in amethyst and jade, and earthly delights like sparkling cocoa and khaki green.

The perfect universal metallic is the contour shade from the Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Instant Definition Eyeshadow Palette in Storm. The perfect jewel tone for any shade of eyes is Smashbox Eyeshadow in Majestic, and the prettiest earthy shade is RMS Mineral Cream Eyeshadow in Seduce, which works on all skin types.

Fall 2011 Makeup Preview

The easiest way to wear any of these hues is to line the upper lash line with a chocolate-brown liner if you are fair to medium, or black eyeliner if you are medium to dark. Then, blend a new fall shade across the lid and up to the crease and smudge it under the lower lash line. Add a highlight in a pale gold or vanilla shade that complements the new eye shadow color (try the Fresh Satin Luster Palette) to “Carmindize” the face under the brows and on the inner corners of the eyes.

Cheeks get all rosy with cream blushes in floral shades that mimic youth and vitality when it gets colder outside. The creamier formulas will also combat the look of dryness on the skin that happens when the seasons change due to loss of moisture. Apply Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Sheerest Cream Blush in Beaming to the apples of the cheeks in circular motions with your fingers.

Lips get super pampered this season with tinted lip balms that fight chapping and give a slight hue to the smile. I adore Fresh Sugar Plum Lip Treatment, which leaves a hint of fall-inspired wine on the lips without being too dark.

Pigment Party!

Loose eye shadow can be daunting to some and fun for others. One thing is for sure; however, it can intensify your eyes in a flash. I love using loose pigments to play up the eyes for a sexy evening look or to add a quick sparkle to a chic daytime look. They come in all hues, and when applied with a light hand can look magical.

A.Sui_pigment

Apply jewel-toned pigments to the lids in purple, jade green or blue for an intense look at night. Sweep it across the lids with a natural haired brush and use an angle brush to blend beneath the lower lash line. Apply a highlighter under the brows and use black liner and mascara to finish them off. Try MAC Pure Pigment in colors like Violet, Teal and Corn Flower to make eyes look electric. Pair the pigments with a nude cheek and lip to create an amazing makeup look that’s hot but not over the top.

For a modern metallic eye, try one of the glimmering Metal Powders from Make Up Forever. Their gold collection can play up eyes in a gilded glow that works beautifully with a black liquid liner and peachy cheeks and lips.

If you want to simply use pigments as a highlight, I suggest the inexpensive La Femme Sparkle Dust Powders in #1, 5, 9, 14 or 21. Use these to Carmindize the face by applying them under the brow, on the inside corners of the eyes and on top of the cheekbones. I love applying the Stila #15 brows to the eyes and Benefit’s Fantail Brush on top of the cheekbones.

A quick way to jazz up your regular daytime eyeshadow is to add a dab of loose shimmer pigment in a wearable daytime hue on the center of the lids. Try L’Oreal HIP Shocking Shadow Pigments in Tenacious or Intrepid or Alima Pure Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow in Paris and use a Q-Tip to lightly layer it right over your normal shadow. Don’t be afraid to sweep on a loose pigment to bring a little excitement into your makeup routine.

Crazy Sexy Cool Eyelashes

A.Ferretti_lashes

Having long, flirty eye lashes is a beauty bonus we all wish we had. In this day and age, we can achieve whatever fabulous fringe we dream of. On the market, we can find lash curlers, thickeners, dies, growth serums, fakes, extensions, mascaras that plump, lengthen, thicken, extend, tube and mimic falsies. Whew, it’s exhausting and where do you even begin?

The Mascara Hall Of Fame

The first thing you need to consider is the look you are trying to achieve. For a natural look, stay away from falsies, extensions and thickening mascaras. Instead, opt for tinting your lashes at a salon if they are light and curling them with the Preo Corner Lash Curler (easiest one to use) if they are straight. Use a clear mascara for day like CoverGirl Professional Natural Lash Clear Mascara and then a light formula mascara for evening like Maybelline Lash Discovery.

If you want sexy, seductive lashes try adding on falsies from Andrea Mod Lash (found at the drugstore) and then sweeping on a thickening lengthening black mascara like Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara. This cool mascara blends together all the new wand technology we have seen into a very unique brush.

If you want a dramatic fringe, but you are super low maintenance, try getting a set of lash extensions and then you can skip having to apply anything to your lashes at all. If you have great lashes and mascara tends to smear—but you hate waterproof formulas—try the tube technology mascaras like Blinc Kiss Me Mascara that won’t run but is easy to wash off at night

If you feel like your lashes need a boost, use Revitalash Lash Serum to stimulate their growth, and then sweep on Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara for super lush lashes that will definitely get you noticed. I started using the Revitalash after losing a few of my own in a curling accident (never curl your lashes on a plane in bad turbulence), and the results were truly spectacular. A friend of mine had to actually stop using it for a while because her lashes became to be too long. What a great problem to have!

DIY Glowing Summer Makeup

A great way to jazz up your makeup routine during the summer—and save money while you’re at it—is to take products you already own and mix ‘em up. If you want to lighten up your foundation when it is hot outside, go for a sheer tinted moisturizer with an SPF. Mix a few pumps of a liquid foundation like my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Your Skin Makeup with a dab of moisturizer and a dab of sunscreen in the palm of your hand. Then, apply for the perfect 3-in-one product.

For a sun-kissed, shimmering complexion, add a few drops of liquid gold shimmer to your foundation and apply it all over the face. I love the one by Stila called All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminizer in #3 Luminous Gold, which is subtle but glowing. You can also add a few drops of this liquid gold to your favorite body lotion with a little bit of perfumed oil to create the perfect evening moisturizer. This will show off your body when wearing sexy summer dresses.

For a cool way to wear metallic eye shadow that has a slightly wet look, mix loose shimmer eye shadow with a bit of clear lip gloss, apply across the lids and you have yourself a sexy smudged eye. Make your own tinted lip balm by scooping out one part red lipstick and three parts clear lip balm and put it into a little plastic hinged-lid jar the kind found at The Container Store. Nuke it for a few seconds in the microwave until it turns liquidy then stir it with a chopstick until blended. Stick it in the refrigerator for a while, and when you pull it out you will have the perfect tinted lip balm. So, be your own mix master and create some new custom-made products for the season!

Coco Madness

girl_with_coconut (400x600)

Nothing smells better in the summer than coconut oil on the beach. The old school scent of sunscreens and oils like Coppertone or Hawaiian Tropic conjure up childhood memories of fun, carefree summers gone by. I wish they would make a Coppertone candle—it would be the biggest seller ever!

The coconut is an amazing summer beauty item for many reasons. It is actually a fruit, nut and seed all in one called a “drupe.” The water from a coconut acts like a healthy diuretic, hydrating your body and replenishing it with moisture as well as helping with water retention. It’s perfect to get your body bikini-ready during that time of month or after a big BBQ.

The meat of the coconut contains anti-inflammatory ingredients and is a healthy way to flavor up summer salads, yogurt, fish and sorbets keeping you fit and healthy while you are exposing all that skin at the beach. The oil are a fantastic way to keep the skin and hair looking their best. When used on the skin, it acts like a super moisturizer by keeping the epidermis soft and supple. The oil contains Lauric Acid, Vitamin E, Vitamin K and other moisture-rich ingredients that help it combat any form of serious dryness.

Here are some of the fabulous ways coconut oil can save you: It treats Karetosis pliers and eczema, helps eliminate body odor, soothes a sunburn (when mixed with aloe vera gel), softens cracked heels (when mixed with Vaseline), lightens up dark patches on knees and elbows (when mixed with lemon juice), cures chapped lips, removes stubborn eye makeup, acts like a hair conditioner, helps dandruff, is a yummy message oil and did I mention you get to smell like summer when using it? Some of my favorite products on the market today are Zico Coconut Water, Garden Of Life Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Nars Manoi Body Glow II, The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter and Skin Trip Coconut Moisturizer.

Top 10 Waterproof Summer Makeup Products

Summer_Waterproof_Makeup_Products.jpg (300x450)

If I could be a mermaid, I would. (Fish scales and all!) I spend so much time in the ocean, and I love field-testing, or should I say ocean-testing, waterproof products to see if they truly deliver. I have come up with my top ten waterproof summer products that won’t smudge or budge, even if you are surfing the crashing waves, paddling over giant swells, swimming laps in your pool or even just running through your sprinklers.

To kick off my list, I’ll start with the most important item of the summer that everyone must use. And that, my little beach beauties, is a high SPF sunscreen.

1. SkinCeuticals Sport UV Defense SPF 45
This is my favorite sun protection, and it contains the active ingredient Z-Cote that keeps the rays off my face even after a full day of surfing.

2. Lancome Effacernes Waterproof Undereye Concealer
Use this concealer to ensure your eyes will look bright and awake, even after swimming all day. It didn’t budge at all when I tried it paired it with the next item on the list.

3. Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Your Skin Makeup
This fabulous water resistant foundation will make your complexion look flawless, even dripping wet.

4.Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Forever Stay Eye Pencil
Use this product for natural day-to-day definition around the eyes. For more intense summertime drama try number five.

5. Makeup For Ever Aqua Eyes Liquid Liners
These liners come in an array of bright, bold shades. I tried this liner in turquoise while on a fishing trip and after a few dives off the back of the boat, I was impressed at how precise the winged line remained.

6. Yves Saint Laurent Waterproof Cream Eyeshadow
This eyeshadow has a staying power you would never believe. I dabbed the shade of Golden Sands on my lids and then went paddleboarding for hours with many spontaneous leaps into the ocean. When I returned home, it looked just as fresh as when I applied it.

7. Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof Mascara
Although a bit of a pain to get off at the end of the day, this stuff never runs down your face when taking an early morning dip.

8.Benefit Benetint Lip and Cheek Stain
This formula offers up a great way to bring color to your cheeks and add a hint of pink to your lips. It even stayed on through one of my epic wake-boarding sessions in the bay.

9. L’Oreal Infallible Never Fail Lipstick
This lipstick lasts all day, plus it comes in a cool mirrored holder so you can check your face for sand after getting pounded in the surf.

10.Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Forever Stay Moisture Gloss
I have been living in the shade ‘Creamsycle’ all summer – it’s a perfect, sheer, universal coral that works on everyone.

Summer Makeup Tip: Stick It In The Fridge!

woman_eyes_closed (300x450)

It’s officially brutal outside this summer, and there is nothing worse then the idea of smearing creams, makeup and other products on your face when it’s so darn hot. I have come up with a few fabulous ways to beat the heat and keep the application process soothing to your skin. Remember that the fridge is your friend, and there are quite a few products you should store in there.

Eye creams that are applied cold can help ease swelling and puffiness, so keep them in there with some herbal toners for a fresh spritz of coolness. I like to store loose face powders in the icebox, too, so when you dust them on over foundation, it feels cool to the skin. This feels especially wonderful if you have a sunburn.

If your eye pencils become mushy because of the heat and are impossible to sharpen, stick them in the freezer for a few. When you pull them out, they will sharpen into a fine point much more easily and will create a much more precise line when applied.

If you left your lipstick in a hot car, just to find your favorite color has melted into a gooey mess, grab a small plastic container like the ones found at the Container Store and scoop the mess into it. Then, place it in the freezer to salvage your summer shade!

At the end of the day, revive your skin by wiping it down with Cool Off, a natural botanical cooling towlette that rejuvenates the skin with essential oils and chilling herbs. It will make you feel crisp and clean after a muggy day.

How To Fake A Gorgeous Vacation Glow

Mila_Kunis_Fake_A_Vacation_Glow.jpg (300x450)

Summer is my absolute favorite time of year, and I just love playing with a subtle bronzer on my face, shades of coral on my cheeks and lips and a sweep of golden shadow across my lids for a true beachy but healthy look. Many women can’t seem to get the bronzer thing down and sometimes get confused on exactly how to do their makeup when it becomes hotter outside.

Try on glowing summer makeup in the Makeover Studio!

I wanted all women to feel as carefree and sun-kissed as possible, so I created a universal “Vacation Glow” look to work on every woman no matter what features she may have. This golden, glowy and gorgeous style of makeup will have you feeling like the girl from Ipanema in no time. It’s so simple to apply, feels light on the skin and only takes a few minutes to create.

I decided the best way to teach women how to get this look was to film a video of myself applying it to my own face. Now you can watch me and follow along as I explain step-by-step how to sweep gold shadows across your lids, how to perfectly apply bronzer so you never look or feel dirty and where to apply that perfect pop of color to the cheeks.

To find the customized shades that are right for you, download my Carmindy App and avatar yourself to find a list of the colors and brands I recommend for your unique coloring then watch the video here and learn how to be a beautiful bronzed beach bunny.

The Beauty Insider’s Secret To Luminous Skin

Jessica_Alba_glowing_skin.jpg (300x450)

Photo: © Jesse Grant/WireImage

For years I’ve heard from beauty editors, bloggers, fashionistas and just about every beauty junkie I know all about the famous Korean Spa in New York City, Juvenex. I heard that the salt scrub is so intense that your skin sheds off you like a snake revealing baby soft skin underneath. The thought of sitting around naked with a bunch of strangers watching my epidermis shredded kind of turned me off to the whole idea at first, but now I totally get it.

I recently ran into an old friend of mine whose skin was as dewy and glowy as a child’s in the springtime. When I asked her if she was in love or had just won the lottery, she simply smiled happily and said, “It’s the Juvenex Salt Scrub.” I decided that it was about time I checked this place out.

First off, if you go early in the morning on a weekday there is a good chance that you will be the only person in the place. You may cross paths with another woman or two but the environment is so zen that you won’t really mind. I loved the systematic sauna, soak, steam and soak again setup which made me feel like I was at an Indian sweat lodge, an ancient European bathhouse, and a secret fountain of youth cavern all at the same time.

I was led into a room and laid upon a table where a wonderful Korean woman buffed and polished me from every angle in a way that never hurt, but only seemed to stimulate my blood flow and eliminate the dead skin and nasty toxins.

I felt amazingly lighter when she was done. Having warm water poured over me, and my hair and face washed afterwards was pure decadence. I felt so pampered and thought to myself briefly, “Why ever bathe myself again when I can have someone else do it?” Dare to dream!

When I left I was truly glowing and my skin stayed smooth and soft for days and days. It is a perfect mid-summer fix when you feel the build-up of sunscreen on the skin, sweat from the heat and humidity, and left over self-tanner. You will be a fresh, newly scrubbed woman!

How To Get A Gorgeous Summer Flush

B.Mischka_2008_SS11_PW_medium.JPG

Photo: © Luca Cannonieri

A beautiful flushed cheek says youth and vitality. When paired with a healthy sun-kissed bronzed face, it’s a perfect easy look for summer. Women often come to me asking what the right shade is for their skin, and most of them always play it safe and choose boring neutral colors. However, when it comes to blush, the brighter the better! The real trick is to keep it sheer and apply it correctly.

This time of year, shades of coral are the way to go. If you are fair, go for pinky coral hues. Medium skin looks best with true corals, and dark skin can pull of orangey corals. If you use cream blush always apply it after foundation but before powder, and use your fingers to blend it on. If you overdo it, simply use a non-latex sponge dipped into a little foundation and buff it down to the perfect flush.

For powder blush, apply it after powder and use a big fluffy powder brush to apply. Don’t use the old school blush brushes—this will pick up too much product and deliver it to a smaller area, making it look streaky and causing you to have to blend more. Again, if you apply too much, use a powder brush that has been dipped into a little powder to tone down the hue. The right area to apply blush to is on the apples of the cheeks, which is the fleshy area on either sides of your nose when you smile. Then, slightly blend it back to the hairline.

My favorite universal summer look starts off with perfect skin and a great bronzer. I like to first apply a tinted moisturizer or sheer airbrush spray foundation to the skin, blending it until it is undetectable. Dab on a cream highlight on top of the cheekbones, under the brows, on the brow bone and on the inside corners of the eyes. My favorite is the Fresh Satin Luster Palette, which just melts into the skin looking like you are glowing from within.

Coat the upper and lower lashes with smudgeproof mascara, forgoing liner and eye shadows. Your cheeks are the main focus here. Apply a light dusting of translucent powder and then blend on a powder bronzer like my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Sun Glow Powder Bronzer. Start at the temples and sweep along the sides of the face and under the cheekbones in a “C” formation on either side of the face. This will give you the perfect bronzed contour.

Next apply my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Natural Powder Blush in Cherub, which works on any skin tone, with a natural haired brush like the Nars Loose Powder Brush. This will deliver the perfect flush, even though it says it’s used for powder. This has been one of my secret tricks for years as it always delivers the right amount of color every time with minimal blending. Now finish the face with a natural looking gloss, and smile my cheeky beach bunny, you are beautiful!

Mosquito Bite Makeup Magic

Geez these pesky little buggers are out in full force this summer! I have received so many e-mails about what to do to prevent bites, how to stop the itch and how to cover the bite bumps once they are red and raised up on the skin. First off is prevention and it’s all about citronella and repellents. I like the big citronella candles and the coils that slowly release smoke, these keep most mosquitos away while you are outside.

Mosquito_Bite_Makeup_Magic.jpg (400x600)

When it comes to using sprays on your skin, I hate toxic Deet and prefer using products that are natural like Burt’s Bees Herbal Insect Repellent, All Terrain Herbal Armour Insect Repellent or Naturapel 8-Hour Insect Repellent. You can also make your own homemade batch by combing the oils of cinnamon and eucalyptus and then adding a little witch hazel for good measure.

If you were already bitten and the itch is driving you mad, cook up a little oatmeal and mix in some baking soda then apply the paste to the bites, this will help sooth and stop the itch. Some other favorites are Calamine lotion, antihistamine cream or lotion, honey, toothpaste, vinegar, mouthwash, tea, underarm deodorant, asperin, Caladryl, Preperation H, Bag Balm and Mylanta. Listen, whatever works!

Once bitten it takes about one week for the bites to disappear completely, but don’t be bummed if you wanted to wear your favorite summer mini or a shoulder baring sundress and can’t because you look like you have the chicken pox. It’s all about a little body makeup. Use my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Airbrush Spray Makeup and spritz the area where the bites are blending the edges into the skin with a non-latex sponge or concealer brush. Add a light dusting of powder to set it in place and nobody will ever know.

The key is to NOT itch while you are out and re-expose the red bumps. If one bite is super red and infected try applying a bit of concealer on the spot first, then spritz over top of that with a little of the airbrush makeup and then dust powder on top. Wear a bold lip color to redirect the focus and spray a little repellent on before leaving the house.

When Life Gets Tough…Rough It With a Girls Trip!

None of us are safe from life’s ups and downs—unless, of course, we are heavily medicated (and even then we’re probably just numb to it). With everything happening in the economy over the last few years, our patience, will, love, and faith have most likely been tested. If you or a loved one have lost your job, your business is totally sucking, a relationship is falling apart, your kids are wearing you down, or you’re just feeling a general sense of malaise, then it’s time for a two-day escape. This is a time to call up your BFF’s and get re-inspired with one another. Create magic together by getting back to Mother Nature and taking advantage of her beautiful gifts.

camping_blog3.jpg

Recently, these very feelings washed over my two girlfriends and me. With money being tight, we decided to go back to nature on a two-day escape. You don’t need a fancy or expensive vacation; just pack up everything you need for survival in your backpack and head out. Camping is free in most places and living without any connection to the outside world can really put things into perspective and bring you back to your center.

We brought along a camera, some makeup and a bit of fabric and turned a simple camping/hiking trip into an inspirational beauty photo shoot. It worked wonders: We all came back feeling beautiful and happy again and ready to take on all of the life challenges in store for us. We discovered that we just needed to recharge our batteries.

If you are not the roughing-it kind of gal, there are other ways to experience this same feeling. You can plan a spa weekend at a friend’s house complete with manicures and pedicures and at-home facemasks you can create with stuff found around the kitchen. And while you’re at it, you might as well throw in a bottle of Proseco to relax!

Trips to the beach or lake, nature walks, or even picnics out on the lawn can all get you in touch with nature and help ground you again. If you have kids, get a babysitter or enlist your hubby or other family member to take over. This will let you be free to get back to you. There is absolutely nothing selfish about it and when you return you can face the world again feeling like your most beautiful and empowered self.

Hot Makeup Trend: Aqua Eyes

I’m currently obsessed with Make Up Forever’s new Aqua Liners in #1, a sunny gold shade, #9, a hot pink, #5, a turquoise blue, #8, a perfect purple and #4, a shimmering green. You will definitely make a statement at the beach when you wear these. Play around with them to create a great beach-time accessory for your face!

The perfect way to wear these liquid eyeliners is with a great sun-kissed tan and very minimal makeup. Always apply a great self-tanner, and never use the real sun to get your bronze on! Apply your face and body self-tanner the night before a day at the beach or pool and wake up to a perfect beach goddess tan.

Apply a sheer foundation like Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Airbrush Spray Makeup that’s light and fresh in the heat. Buy one a shade darker then your usual foundation for the summer months when you’re a bit more tan.

Apply a light dusting of sheer translucent powder and swirl a little bronzer like Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Sun Glow Powder Bronzer along the temples, the sides of the face and across cheeks.

Now, sweep one of these awesome liquid eyeliners across the upper lash line only starting at the inner corner of the eye. Sweep slowly and gradually along the roots of the lashes, ending in a slight wing at the end of each eye. Apply waterproof mascara, and finish your look with a bronzy nude lipgloss like Guerlain Terracotta Lipgloss in Ebene.

A good guide to play up eyes is to try the #1 sunny gold shade on any eye color and any skintone for a natural beachy look. For blue eyes try the #5 turquoise color to intensify the blue, green eyes look super rich with the #4 shimmering green color and brown eyes pop with #8 the perfect purple hue.

My Tips For Extreme Outdoor Beauty

If you’re like me and up for an adventure from time to time that’s a little more rough-and-tumble than just another day at the beach, there is no reason you have to skip out on looking good- even in the wilderness.

camping_blog1.jpg

Going on a hiking or camping trip can push your physical and mental limits, but you don’t need to sacrifice beauty in the process. You can keep your skin and lips hydrated and eyes defined even at 14,000 feet. When I go on an outdoor excursion, there are a few must-haves that I pack to make it easy to stay fresh and pretty without the need of running water. That way, if you do make it to the summit and snap that “I did it!” photo, you’re already camera ready.

The most important thing to throw into your backpack is a package of Pond’s Wet Cleansing Morning Refresh Towelettes. Since you may be rolling out of a tent at base camp with no river nearby, these handy towelettes will thoroughly cleanse the dirt and grime from your skin without the need of water, and the exfoliating microbeads eliminate dry, dead skin. Your face will have a polished glow instantly.

I also always pack a travel size of my favorite Crème De La Mer moisturizer to keep my skin super hydrated, which at high elevations is serious business. The thin, dry air can wreak havoc on your skin’s moisture levels, so remember to pack on a little extra around the eyes as well. Since sunscreen is just as important on a mountaintop as it is in the sand and surf, I also slather on my Skinceuticals UV Sport Defense 45 before the snow glare becomes a problem.

Unfortunately, because hot showers aren’t an option on these types of trips, a travel can of Batiste Dry Shampoo is essential. This product allows you to soak up greasy roots keeping your hair looking soft and clean and rid of that lingering campfire smell.

Fresh Rose Lip Balm with SPF 15 keeps my lips soft, smooth and protected. I also add a swirl to the apples of my cheeks for a quick cheek tint that gives my skin a healthy looking glow. To finish off the look, Blinc Kiss Me Mascara applied to the upper and lower lashes is my fast go-to mascara that won’t smear, even in a rainstorm or a whiteout.

To complete my list of must-haves, a small bottle of Burt’s Bees Hand Sanitizer keeps my hands and fingers clean when orchestrating my wilderness beauty routine. Don’t forget the last crucial item—a little Naturpel insect repellent will save the day in case those nasty critters that live in the lower elevations show up.

Now lace up those mountaineering boots and start your ascent to greater beauty heights!

Get Beach Ready Inside And Out

It’s heating up out there, and if you are heading to the beach this summer, remember that adding a few extra steps to your summer beauty routine can have you looking better in your swimsuit then ever! I’m a huge fan of living a healthy lifestyle for all over beauty, so antioxidants and other vitamins are an absolute must for me.

Ingesting these little beauty helpers is just as important as applying them topically, so I was super excited to try Borba’s Beach Ready Kit. The three products in this kit contain everything you need to help look fit, stay toned and keep yourself protected. It’s already a good thing anytime I can eat chocolate, but when they say the word slimming on the box, I’m all over it.

The Slimming Chocolates in this kit help with weight management and appetite control and can help maintain a solid metabolism. Pop one of these tasty treats into your mouth each day and let the Chromium Picolinate, fiber and Guanabana keep you satisfied and on your way to that perfect string bikini. The only problem here for me is stopping at just one

.

The second product in the kit is The Firming Diamond Shimmer Contour. This super body moisturizer claims to be designed with potent antioxidants to help preserve skin-firming memory and contains spandex fibers for a toner feel to the skin. It’s also infused with micro-diamonds to illuminate the skin’s natural glow enhancing a sleeker more contoured silhouette. My body felt glowing with a subtle amount of shimmer, and my skin did feel much more toned after slathering it on. I instantly wanted to put on a mini sundress and a pair of wedges and strut my stuff.

The last product in the kit is the amazing Age Defying Super Cream Day Moisture with SPF 100. I’m a huge sun block fanatic and am always on the lookout for amazing ones. With this moisturizer you kill 3 birds with one stone! Rich hydrating moisture, total and absolute sun protection and acai berry, a rich antioxidant that fights ageing like no other. Applying makeup on top of this was a breeze and even after a long day outside, I didn’t get a hint of color on my face. So before heading out and shedding your cloths this season give the Beach Ready Kit a go and be your best beachy self!

Get Your Gold On

Want to look like a Grecian Goddess this summer? Try playing with gold makeup to look gilded and gorgeous. There is a good gold for every skin tone, and when you know where to place it, you can watch yourself transform into a radiant beach babe!

The easiest way to wear gold is to try a golden body shimmer like the Nars Illuminator on the skin. You can play up your tan by smoothing on this cream, and with four shades to choose from, your body will look glistening no matter what your coloring.

For an easier way to apply a gold body shimmer, try the Era Glaze in 24 Karat. After moisturizing, just spray this universal hue on your arms and legs for a fast, glitzy glow that won’t rub off on clothing.

If you want to play up your eyes, use just sweep of gold across the lid from the lash line to the crease and pair it with black mascara and neutral cheeks and lips for less makeup with more impact. I love the Makeup Forever Star Powder in #920 for light and medium skin; for darker skin, try Lancome Sensational Effects Eyeshadow in Pose.

If you want just a hint of gold on the eyes, try lining the upper lash line first with a black or chocolate brown pencil, then lightly tracing just above it with Sephora Long Lasting Eyeliner in 05 Metallic Gold.

For a summer smoky eye with a twist, apply your normal smoky eye look then add a dot of loose gold shimmer on the center of the lid and under the brow bone for extra kick. Apply a gold lipstick like L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Golden Splendor, which looks beautiful worn on a hot summer night with a more dramatic eye.

The tops of your cheekbones will look stunning when dusted with La Femme Sparkle Dust in Gold #1 with a fantail brush, and while you are at it try sweeping it across the collarbone as well.

Save Yourself From The Summer Nasties!

woman_with_sunburn (400x600)

Each summer we get super excited to bust out or bikinis and whip out the sundresses; however, having our skin and makeup looking flawless is key when the heat is on to looking summer chic. There are always some hot weather beauty mishaps that don’t have to bring you down if you know some easy solutions for these summer beauty woes.

The most common mishap is the dreaded sunburn. Say you laid out and either missed a spot with your sunscreen or didn’t reapply after that ocean swim and are left with a stinging lobster red burn. The best way to ease the pain is to take a cool shower and slather on the aloe vera. Aloe will start healing the skin and sooth it at the same time. Try the inexpensive and popular Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel and keep it in the fridge for extra cooling. You should also take a Tylenol so get rid of the pain and make sure you stay away from any types of exfoliants or body scrubs that will only irritate the skin.

If you burnt your face, the best way to cover the redness is to use a liquid foundation and slightly stipple it onto the skin lightly with a non-latex sponge to cover. Then, use a dusting of yellow based powder to counteract any redness. Try my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Truly Translucent Loose Powder In Neutralizer.

10 Sexy Summer Hairstyles

Another nasty summer issue is when your recent wax left your bikini area covered in red bumps. Don’t feel like you have to be covered up and hiding under a sarong at the beach all day, simply use a waterproof concealer like the Amazing Cosmetics Concealer. Dab it on to camouflage those little nasties and don’t worry about it running off in the water because this concealer won’t budge.

Another really annoying issue is after a sticky, hot, searing day you find your eye makeup has completely run under your eyes making you look like a total Goth. Opt for waterproof eyeliner that won’t melt off like my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Forever Stay Eye Pencil and try tube technology mascaras like Blinc Kiss Me Mascara that tubes your lashes in a stay-put and smudge-proof flirty fringe that lasts all day without ever smearing.

Hot weather can also bring out the cold sores, so if you are prone to these during this season make sure you get a prescription for Valtrex to keep them at bay when you first feel that little tingle. If you missed your chance and one shows up anyway, there is a way to hide it. First, mix a little dab of Abreva Cold Sore Medicine with some of your foundation and apply it to the area using a Q-Tip and then throw the Q-Tip away after you apply it. Follow with another disposable Q-Tip dipped into a little yellow tinted loose powder and dab it on the area to set the makeup. Then, play up your eyes with a bold blue summer eyeliner pencil to try the focus away from your lip and up to your eyes. Nobody will ever notice.

Some of us ladies who are well endowed can get a little sweaty under the sisters in heat and humidity, causing a wet line to appear through your clothing. Take an unscented anti-antiperspirant and apply it under the breasts to keep from sweating so much under there. So, no matter what summer nasties crop up this season you are well-equipped with the tips and tricks to keep looking like your gorgeous self!

The New Guard

So you must know by now that the most important thing in maintaining a youthful healthy complexion is, of course, sunscreen. A high SPF will keep you free from sun spots, premature aging, wrinkles and, most importantly, skin cancer. Leathery skin is so not sexy, so by loading up on the protection and guarding yourself against the harsh rays of the sun, you can stay looking like your gorgeous self for far longer than those sun-worshiping raisins laying out this time of year.

Sunblock_girl (300x450)

Besides my usual coating of my favorite sunscreen SkinCeuticals UV Sport Defense SPF 45 (I’m obsessed), I’m always on the hunt for new and extra ways to guard myself against those nasty UVA and UVB rays. Three new and fantastic additions to the protection arsenal come from very unusual sources.

The first one is a new three-in-one shampoo, face and body wash called Klen. This broad spectrum SPF 15 washes on in the shower in one easy step. It’s a new revolutionary technology that utilizes a positively charged delivery system, which attracts the negatively charged skin during washing and stays on your skin after rinsing and drying. There is absolutely no greasy residue, and it’s full of my favorite antioxidants—so it’s great for the skin.

The next cool way to stay protected is by wearing something from the fantastic new line of clothing called Mott 50. This chic UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) 50 clothing company offers tunics, safari dresses, cargos, hats and more and has your sunscreen built right into the fabric. Most women believe that if they just throw on a thin cotton top they will be protected, but in fact that will only offer you a UPF of about 5, which is not enough to prevent much of anything. Mott 50 is recommended by the cancer foundation and is a much more stylish way to ensure your sun safety.

It is never too young to start protecting your skin, and those of you with little ones, you know how hard lathering up your kids can be at the beach. Well, let them have fun and hand over the new line of Sunbow sunscreens. Dora The Explorer and Sponge Bob Square Pants get kids excited to paint up their faces and bodies with these bright colored pink and yellow sunscreens that dry clear and do not rub off on cloths. Your kids will be applying it themselves with the help of their favorite characters, and you can breathe a sigh of relief that nobody will get burned.
