If you were to meet an Olympian in person, what would you ask them? “What is your training regimen like?” would most likely come to mind first. But for women athletes, like the gorgeous Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin, we at Daily Makeover would love to know how she keeps her hair looking flawless after hours in the pool. And now that Natalie is the U.S. brand ambassador for Pantene, we got the inside scoop on her beauty routine.

Pantene chose to partner with Coughlin, not only for her vast accomplishments in sports, but also her dedication to a healthy lifestyle. She inspires women to embrace their own strength and femininity.

Coughlin was a perfect choice for the partnership because of the daily strain she puts on her hair. Spending hours daily in a pool full of chlorine can have disastrous effects on your locks by stripping hair of its natural oils, causing dryness and breakage.

Although I don’t spend hours in the pool like Natalie, I am an avid runner. Even washing my hair after daily runs and styling with a curling iron or straightener, my hair also loses its natural oils and starts to feel brittle between cuts.

In dire need of saving my locks, I decided to find out more about Natalie’s successful hair tricks. Danilo, Pantene Celebrity Stylist and Global Ambassador, gave me the same treatment and style Natalie models in the new Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal commercial. This collection is considered the gold standard in daily hair care and in combating everyday damage. In celebration of the Olympics, Pantene is inviting us all to “go gold” with the Pantene Daily Moisture Renewal collection, choosing the highest caliber in hair care. After trying it, I can confidently agree that it is the gold standard. Read below so you can achieve the gold standard too!

What You Need:

Step 1: Wash and condition your hair with the Pantene Daily Moisture Renewal shampoo ($3.99, Drugstores and Pgestore.com) and conditioner. What I loved about this set is that the shampoo boosts the moisture in my hair while the conditioner strengthened it against damage. With long hair like mine (and Coughlin’s), my two biggest concerns are split ends and dry tips. Finding a shampoo to counteract both concerns is a lifesaver!

Step 2: Shake and then mist Pantene Aqua Light Weightless Conditioning Shake ($5.99, Drugstores and Pgestore.com) over damp hair. This creates the foundation for styling hair by detangling and protecting against heat damage.

Step 3: Evenly distribute the Pantene Daily Moisture Renewal Silky Moisture Whip ($6.99, Drugstores and Pgestore.com) throughout the hair. I loved this product because, although it has a lightweight, whipped texture, it doesn’t create hard untouchable strands like mousse. Natalie loves it too. “It’s important to use a gentle shampoo, and then put a great leave-in, so I really like to use the Pantene Silky Moisture Whip, which puts a lot of moisture back into my hair and keeps it healthy for the next time that I get in the water.”

Step 4: Section hair into four sections, spraying Pantene Fine Hair Solutions Root Lifter Spray Gel ($3.99, Drugstores and Pgestore.com) on each. Begin to blow dry each section. FYI: I have never had more voluminous hair than when Danilo used this product! The spray gel also created a high shine for healthy-looking locks.

Step 5: Now begin to curl. Use a dollop of Pantene Beautiful Lengths Strengthen and Smooth Finishing Créme ($5.99, Drugstores and Pgestore.com) on each section before you use the curling iron. What’s great about this product is that it has micro-smoothers to smooth ends (obviously!) and help protect against heat damage. Pin each curl on top of your head to maintain the shape. You can also get the same look using hot rollers.

Step 6: Spray your hair with the Pantene Fine Hair Solutions Professional Level Style Shaping Hairspray ($5.99, Drugstores and Pgestore.com).

Step 7: Once your hair has cooled, release the pins (or rollers) and brush out. Danilo also suggests flipping your head upside down for lots of volume. I followed his advice and felt like a Pantene girl flipping my hair in a commercial.

Step 8: Finish the look by misting hair again with Pantene Fine Hair Solutions Professional Level Style Shaping Hairspray and re-curling any loose ends.

In addition to helping Natalie shine in and out of the pool, Pantene is also helping athletes of all ages. Every time you use the hash tag #GoGold on Pantene Facebook posts, pictures, or tweet at @Pantene, the Brand will turn that action into a $1 donation (up to $100,000) for the USOC’s P&G Team USA Youth Sports Fund.

“Staying fit and active as a kid for me was so important so that I was healthy from the inside out,” Natalie said. “That’s why I’m so excited about what P&G is doing with the P&G Youth Sports Fund. So many kids are going to benefit from P&G’s Youth Sports Fund.”

Will you “go gold” with your hair for the 2012 Olympics?
