The braid trend has been huge for years, and they’re still my favorite hairstyle to spot on the red carpet. Changing something small, like moving the position of a braid from one side to another or braiding inside out instead the traditional way, creates a whole new look. So when I tire of a simple plait, I turn to the queen of the red carpet braid — Jennifer Morrison — for new ideas.
At almost every appearance, the Once Upon A Time actress models a fishtail, Heidi braid or peekaboo plait in a mass of soft curls. And even though her hair isn’t super thick, her braids never look limp and thin. With a fishtail, she keeps it loose and messy so the hair looks fuller. Texturizing spray before braiding is another trick her stylist uses. Also, props to any woman who make a Heidi braid look cocktail party appropriate. Her fishtail version isn’t overly boho or cutesy.
Here are a few more of Jennifer Morrison’s braids I’m obsessing over:
The combination of the soft waves and loose waterfall braid makes this my romantic hair go-to.
Party ponytail! The hair was French braided along the hairline and then wrapped around a long ponytail.
I love how messy this braid updo is, and yet it’s still so chic. To recreate this one, I’d just braid along the sides and intertwine them haphazardly in the back. Oh, and start with lots of texturizing spray.
I don’t know anyone else who could have pulled off this mohawk braid better. The Dutch braid (folded inside out) is teased to the max while the sides are super sleek. I love a good contrast.
