I have a confession: My hair is not a virgin. According to David Puerta, Living Proof’s vice president and leader of their haircare program, virgin hair consists of strong, soft and smooth strands that have not been color-treated, processed or heat-styled. Anyone have hair that fits this description? Yeah, that’s what I thought. We’re all guilty of whoring out our tresses for the latest fad, and sadly, our hair health suffers.
This weekend Living Proof is kicking off their Restore 14 Day Challenge in New York City with their Restore the Love Bus. I headed over to Soho this afternoon to meet with David and their creative director, Tim Rogers, to talk about the challenge and what I need to personally do to restore my strands from dead split ends to healthy virgin hair (or born-again virgin, that is).
Like many, I suffer from split ends because the only way to tame my unruly waves is by curling or straightening my hair. So, about five days a week I style with heat. It’s safe to say that more than half of my hair is dry and brittle.
Tim Rogers, a hairstylist to stars such as Blake Lively and Carrie Mulligan, applied a quick repair regimen of Living Proof Restore Targeted Repair Cream. The leave-in formula works to hydrate and repair strands. Instantly, my hair felt softer and looked healthier. For the next 14 days, I will be using this cream, as well as the entire Restore kit that includes shampoo, conditioner, mask treatment, recovery regimen and revitalizing spray.
And starting today, you can join me in the challenge to undo years of damage to your hair. Purchase the 14-day trial kit with Restore products and register on Facebook. Then everyday, document your journey by uploading a photo, video or comment on your hair status on Living Proof’s Facebook page. Every time you post, you are entered to win a 4-night stay for two in Tucson, Arizona.
If you happen to be in New York this weekend, I highly recommend you check out the Restore the Love Bus! On Saturday, it will be stationed in the Meat Packing District and on 86th and Lexington St. on Sunday. The staff is very helpful with tips on how to restore your hair back to health, as well as providing free mini-makeovers!
Will you join me on the hair challenge?
