Occasionally we come across a product that bestows an immediate glow, changing our look (for the better!) in an instant. Since we’d be remiss to keep them to ourselves, we highlight these genius finds in our Instant Makeover series.
One trick I’ve learned over the years is that to make polish stick better to the nail, you have to clean the nail completely of any old polish or oil—natural oils on the nail create a somewhat slippery surface that makes it difficult for the polish to adhere to.
I was recently introduced to a pre-polish, Cuccio Nail Solutions Dehydrator ($8, bebeautiful.com) that follows this same concept and dries out the nail bed and cleans off any residue an acetone may have missed. The treatment dries in seconds, so it’s a quick addition to the at-home mani. After the nail is dry, you continue as you normally would with a basecoat, polish and topcoat. Normally my polish starts to chip at the ends within three or four days, but my mani now lasts between six and seven days. I’ll take it.
What are your long-lasting mani tricks?
