Bright pink blush has always been a little intimidating because the color looks so bold, and potentially clownish in the packaging. But now, more than ever, is the time to tackle those fears because lively rosy cheeks are one of spring’s hottest beauty trends.

Contrary to what you might think, anyone can wear bright pink blush, from light complexions to darker skin tones like Paula Patton. “The greatest attribute to pink blush is that it emulates a natural flush that every skin tone has,” said M.A.C. Senior Artist Tiffany Johnston.

Spring Makeup For Your Skin Tone

Here’s how to pick the best pink blush for you: The deeper the skin tone, the richer the pink should be. The fairer the skin tone, the cleaner and brighter the pink should be.

For darker skin tones, try Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Plum Wine ($7.99, drugstore.com) and for lighter skin, go with Bare Escentuals Buxom True Hue Blush in Seduction ($24, sephora.com) or M.A.C. Cosmetics Powder Blush in Pink Swoon ($20, nordstrom.com). Physicians Formula Glow & Mood Boosting Blush ($11.95, ulta.com) is a palette of complementary colors that blend together, making it compatible with any skin tone.

To apply, Johnston suggests using a big fluffy brush such as M.A.C. 182 Buffer Brush ($49.50, nordstrom.com). The bigger and softer the brush, the easier the color will blend. If you prefer a dewy finish, a cream blush is a better fit. Johnston provided this great tip for creating your own. “Start with a small amount of powder blush and add a drop of moisturizer to soften.”

To give your cheeks their rarely seen time in the spotlight, pair with a muted lip and eye.
