Sure, you may claim not to be into astrology, but admit it, you can’t resist sneaking a peek at your daily horoscope. It was this same curiosity that led me to Rose-Marie Swift. Not only is she the founder of organic color cosmetics line RMS beauty, she’s an astrologer, too. Since she’s well versed in both makeup and astrology, I wanted to know if my sign should factor into the colors I wear.
“Astrology is the blueprint of our characters, and our characters vary in different energies, depending when we were born and what sign we were born under,” says Swift. “The sign gives us an insight into our personality, such as our spirit and our style.”
Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
Your personality: Tend to be inspirational.
Your makeup style: According to Swift, “Fire signs lean toward brighter bold colors, such as red.”
Try: Use RMS Lip Shine in Sacred ($25, rmsbeauty.com) to show off how fiery you are, while still being appropriate for daytime.
Air Signs (Aquarius, Gemini, Libra)
Your personality: Aspirational.
Your makeup style: “Air signs lean toward more experimental makeup and more unique colors, such as purple or blue.”
Try: Experiment with Anastasia Hypercolor Brow and Lash Tint ($22, anastasia.net) for a look that’s as unique as you are.
Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)
Your personality: Tend toward practicality.
Your makeup style: “Earth signs lean toward more of a natural expression of colors. More earth tones and neutral colors.”
Try: RMS Beauty Eye Cream in Seduce ($28, rmsbeauty.com) is both neutral and gorgeous.
Water Signs (Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio)
Your personality: Emotional.
Your makeup style: “Water signs lean toward a more sensual and moist expression, like glosses or luminous colors that reflect light.”
Try: Use It Cosmetics Hello Light Anti-Aging Crème Radiance Illuminator ($24, itcosmetics.com) to illuminate the skin and make it look like light is coming off of you.
Although your sign may lead you into a particular makeup direction, Swift readily admits these rules are made to be broken. “No person is alike,” says Swift. “It also depends on your rising sign. Your rising sign is the mask that you wear to the public, so that will also color your expression.”
