Mariah Carey has been out of the spotlight for a while—getting married to a younger man and having a baby will do that to a girl. But the pop star seems to be making a comeback. Besides her new gig as an American Idol judge, Mariah has signed a deal with OPI to create two new nail polish collections.
“I actually went to beauty school in 11th grade so I could have something to fall back on, so believe me, I’ve done my share of manicures as well as getting them,” Mariah said. “OPI knows that the polish you use makes a big difference not only in the look, but in the care of your nails and that’s why I believe in the brand.”
It’s safe to say she really didn’t need a back up plan (“One Sweet Day,” anyone?). But if her polishes are as great as her voice, we can’t wait to see what she comes up with.
“Nails are part of her personality. I really have always looked for celebrities for whom nails are very important, and it is not something you just Photoshop on a picture,” Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, the executive vice president and artistic director of OPI, told WWD. “She was very much part of the color selection.”
The ranges will launch next year, with the first collection of eight shades hitting OPI’s salons, spas and retailers in January, followed by another later in the year with an undetermined number of shades.
We’re thinking she’ll include lots of gold, sparkles and maybe a swanky navy blue color for the winter. What would you like to see from this collection?
