Runway Hair and Makeup You’ll Actually Want to Wear

Some runway looks should have “Do Not Try This At Home” stamped on them (hot pink eyeliner, anyone?). Luckily, this season has seen its share of gorgeous, wearable hair and makeup, too. We can’t wait to test-drive these styles—how about you?

3.1 Phillip Lim

Showing us that (slightly) clumpy lashes can be cool, Francelle Daly for Nars created this “sophisticated rocker chick” using Black Moon Eyeliner Pencil and multiple lashings of Larger Than Life Mascara.

Zac Posen

“A lash looks great on everybody,” Kabuki for M.A.C. explained of this makeup look, which he designed to flatter a multitude of skin tones. Artists backstage applied mascara with a fan brush to integrate two pairs of falsies into girls’ natural lashes. Meanwhile, Luigi Murenu for John Freida created a polished wave for hair, which Harry John had colored to look “expensive” using John Frieda Precision Foam Colour.

Derek Lam

Bold colored lids can be tough to pull off, but this pale pastel eye is easy to love. Estée Lauder’s Tom Pecheux blended the brand’s Pure Color Stay-on Shadow Paint in Cosmic, Extreme Emerald, Halo and Steel (out in January) to create a shimmering, sheer wash with the faintest hint of green.

Can’t commit to chopping bangs? Try this deep side-parted style for similar effect. Eugene Souleiman for Wella created “California sunned” texture by twisting hair, misting with Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray and setting with a blow dryer.

Carolina Herrera

Would you ever think to wear a smoky eye sans mascara? Diane Kendal for M.A.C. reinvented the classic look in shades of silvery gray. A thin swipe of Creme Liner in Black along the top lashes stood in for mascara, giving the eye definition but keeping the look ethereal.

Reem Acra

Add personality to a pony with this multi-textured look created by Rutger for Rene Furterer. After prepping hair with mousse, the hairstylist backcombed the top for height and slicked the sides back with Sculpting Gel, adding twists at the back.

Jason Wu

Look closer, because this isn’t your run-of-the-mill red lip. Diane Kendal for M.A.C. used an arsenal of products to create a subtle contoured look that’s darker around the edges and brighter in the center. In her kit: Lip Pencil in Cherry and Vino, two spring 2013 shades of Mineralize Rich Lipstick and Pigment in Neo-Orange to set it all.
